Deep River posted a video earlier - he reported that they had EIGHT Amazon trucks delivering orders today! The church there now has little room for more, although these are going out rapidly. Praise Jesus, this is the kind of thing that restores my pride in being an American, and a Christian!
I saw that. We ordered a buddy heater earlier this week to send there. Deep River gave a huge shout out to Patera & The Poplar Report. It really does restore your faith in humanity. So humbling to see this response from good people.
I'll be alone again during the holidays, but I do have a roof over my head and I am warm, I feel so heartbroken for our people still in dire need. I am way up here in Washington State living on Social Security and can't help monetarily, but I am praying every morning and every night for God to spread his arms around them, comfort them, protect them and show them that he is with them.
Mailed 3 boxes “of warmth” today to Miss Julia over in NC. Was very happy to do so b/c I hadn’t gotten the boxes off in time (Nov 2) for the Deep River drive up the mountain. I say warmth b/c that’s what we tried to collect up for the folks. Blankets, pkgs of socks, gloves, long underwear for adults & kids & a couple winter coats for kids. The thing I wanted to get to those who are cold the most were the hats my daughter & I have been knitting for the last 3 weeks. “90 % of body heat loss…”. Patara, you help us be better people. Oh brought a truck full of coats to Newland specifically Avery Christmas tree farm this Sunday. Drove from NY. I was humbled by the positive mind set of those I talked to. The tree farm is in touch with the community as well and could also help with what the needs are. Great people

As of this morning Wayne at Deep River said that Amazon delivered over 1,000 boxes yesterday to the church with buddy heaters and other items and that they are going to be sending heaters etc.. to the Newland area within the next few days. god bless everyone who has donated to helping these people.

We are in Ohio and have not even experienced the snow that WNC has gotten. Just please let people know: they are daily in our prayers as well as sending our love and money and supplies and toys. We are supporting the food pantry at Calvary Episcopal Church in Fletcher. Friday they we receive 15 boxes of quilts, jackets and beanie babies and an envelope of cash from Jacksonville, NC.
I live in Mitchell County next to Avery County. It's the same here also. So many people living in tents. It seems like our county has been ignored so much. It's really sad to see the devastation.

I called the N C govenor's office today about the tiny cabins not being distributed to those in need. The lady was very informative but expressed there are shelters available and transportation also. They cannot make people leave their property and tents. Local comissioners are making the call not to send the tiny cabins if the property if it has been declared a flood area. I asked if the properties were declared flood areas before or after Helene. She said after. I explained that people living in tents when temps were dropping and faced possible freezing to death when tiny cabins were available made no sense. I said this is a time for compassion, work out the red tape in the Spring and help these people be protected thru the Winter. She said they had the option to go to shelters, so it is their choice. She also said it was the local gov call and they could be contacted in each of the 25 counties. Unbelievable that a Govenor will not step in and get these cabins distributed to the people in need.😡

They cannot make people leave their property and tents. Local comissioners are making the call not to send the tiny cabins if the property if it has been declared a flood area. I asked if the properties were declared flood areas before or after Helene. She said after. I explained that people living in tents when temps were dropping and faced possible freezing to death when tiny cabins were available made no sense. I said this is a time for compassion, work out the red tape in the Spring and help these people be protected thru the Winter. She said they had the option to go to shelters, so it is their choice. She also said it was the local gov call and they could be contacted in each of the 25 counties. Unbelievable that a Govenor will not step in and get these cabins distributed to the people in need.😡

Myself and a friend sent a heater to High Country Community Health Center. It’s cold here in NE so I know how they feel. Pray for those people.
