DUDE OMG YOU ARE THE FIRST PERSON TO EXPLAIN THIS. 2:14 Like thats all i was trying to figure out is if the car will prevent you from money shifting. Now that i know this i feel more comfortable.
But I am still confuse I have 2024 Honda civic, it also has one behind steering wheel, I am confuse still dosen’t Know what’s that for ?
Lol, "The transmission won't let you rev it into infinity and blow the motor" idk why but this sentence is just really funny.
I believe it was Einstein who first taught us that infinity is just beyond 7000.
That can save your engine from burning when you sleep on your car and accidently stepped on the gas
Dodge may not let u ride the rev limiter...🙄...Don't pedal shift my car at 7000 rpms....💥
I always wondered how these things worked! Looking forward to part 2!
Lethal Challenger RT exactly I was like what’s the point of the shifters if it’s automatic
I just recently started fooling with the paddle shifters. To scared I would screw up the transmission. Great video!
+Hemi Muscle Thanks! Yeah, I didn't know how to use them either until I started the video series. Definitely an underutilized feature on automatic vehicles.
I’m still tryna find out how to use them. So if I want my car to go faster and sound loader hit to + and if I want it to come down hit - am I right lol
This explains a lot. I would love to test a paddle shift one day. Don't understand when this new tech occurred. I'd rather just manual transmission but I now open to paddle shift
I appreciate the pacing of this clear and thoughtful explanation.
Wow a great explanation on automatic, manual and paddle shifting💪
What do you think the "M + - " feature on the gear shift knob does? These are manual up-down shifting switches! All you're doing with paddle shifting on the steering wheel is moving the user interface. The paddle shift function at the gearshift knob comes built-in with many automatic trannies.
Very well explained, Many Thanks.
Happy New Year, Peace From London! 🙏
Dude great explanation, I have a 2012 challenger rt and I feel more comfortable now using my paddle shifters!
I have a Mazda Miata, and its paddle shifters are VERY intuitive. They also offer up/down shifting on both sides of the wheel.
How fast do they apply and can you control exactly when the shift happens?
I can heal-toe downshift a manual and have the power come on exactly when I want and how hard I want. How close is paddle shifting the automatic to a manual shift?
ETA: fixed some garbled grammar.
This video deserves way mkre likes. Well explained and nice video man
out of all the videos this 1 was the best💯💯💯💯
Finally. Someone who simplified it. Thanks 🎉
Looked all over for and explanation of this and finally found it
I kept wondering how these things really worked
Now I know. Thanks a million
Fantastic explanation, thanks!
Great explanation. Thank you. 👍
Very clearly explained thanks for the info
Had no idea about this, but while shopping for a car (that mentioned it) I came here. Thanks for explaining it.
Thank you! Useful info.
I learned a lot. Good job
Awesome explanation 👌👌
Very informative 👌🏼
You explained this so well Even I understood it! Well done Well done
Very informative...thanks
Thanks for explaining this 😊😊
Clear explanation. Thanks
Very, very helpful!!
Wow great tutorial ❤
is this more geared towards newer vehicles or would it work similarly in all vehicles that offer it?
Cool. The car salesperson who sold me my new car did not know how to explain this. Thank you so much.
thanks man this rlly helped
Simple but best explanation
You have such a nice voice. You should do voice-overs and narrations.
I like the word stick shift better than manual and nice explanation.
short and well put.
Good to know about this: my Camaro has paddle shifters and I use them once in a blue moon just for the thrill, might start using my them a little more now
Thanks for better explanation man🤭👌👏🔥
Thanks it helped a lot
Good job guys
You answered my question thank you
Yooooo I just bought a 2022 corolla with paddle shifters. Was VERY scared to try it due to a fear a fucking up my trans. Thank you for the info!
My charger doesn't have the paddle shifters but I do want to start using my auto stick more but I'm unsure about the shift points. And no I've never driven a manual 😒
Paddle shifters aren't necessarily in an automatic transmission car. Many are in a manual transmission car, but with the clutch automated with electronics and a hydraulic system. It's still a manual transmission and structurally different from an automatic transmission.
If I active or press those bottoms by mistake, how do I get them back to normal or how I turn it off? Thanks
I recently had a scare with my Honda, I was leaving an intersection and accidentally down shifted. It spooked me as it sounded like a loud revving of the engine. Glad that this kinda cleared things up but I still get nervous with things like this.
Does it mess up the transmission? I did it on accident too and I got scared
can anyone explain WHY it revs faster in paddle shift mode vs full auto ??
thanks.. big help
Thank you!!!
Okay cool, but like on a practical level, what is the purpose of using them? Like can they help me in any way besides sportier feel and having the engine slow me down instead of breaks? And obviously that is going to save my breaks, but will it add wear and tear to my engine?
nice review
So the car itself won't let you brick the transmission or do you still need to be careful? I recently got a 2019 Honda Accord Sport and have never driven a manual so the last thing I want to do is screw anything up.
Nice 👍
What a about the HOW part ? How the paddle is connected to the transmission?
Nice vid
Thank you looks like im getting the brz limited with paddle shifters after all
Is there not a clutch pedal with the flappy paddles
If my car comes with shift paddles, do I have to use them? or can I just drive it like a normal automatic without using the shift paddles?
Thanks buddy
So could you drive a car that has paddle shifters without using the paddle shifters at all? Like a pure automatic? Would that be a bad thing?
You snapped
Well explained thank you bro, btw can u give us some practical examples when the peddles would become useful
Super broooo
What happens when I am in say 4th gear and want to downshift to get torque to overtake someone. Do I have to wait for the RPM to drop ?
In my car at least I have to wait for it to drop where, when I down-shift, my rpm's won't be in the red. If I can downshift without the rpm's going into the red it lets me downshift
So if your in sport mode and totally fuck up q shift it won’t fuck up the engine in any way right
Wait! If u can change gear with paddle shifter, why did they also give a shifting option with the gear select stick (the one with M+ & M- @ 2:07)?
Some supercars have paddle shifters but no stick but they still have a clutch on them. Why?
Love how your only getting 10 mpg..... that's about where mines stays at...lol
can you explain to me when do you need to upshift? at what rpms?
is it before the red??
it very much depends on the car but you should be trying to avoid red lining at all costs as a general. most cars sweet spot for shifting is around the 3000rpm mark. some higher, some lower.
So does this reset every time the car turns off?
2:34 I get down shifting to a low gear at high speed is prevented in automatics but when putting your automatic at say 4th level while idle doesn't mean you are in 4th gear, you are still in 1st gear and you are telling your on board computer not to shift past 4th until damage might be caused due to red lining. At least that's how my car functions.
And tell me one more thing that paddel shifter and triptronic both can equipped in one car
I subscribed
Is it automatic though, if you have to do it manually, isn’t it like a sequential manual transmission ?
My car (2010 Lincoln MKZ) has a trans like this except it doesn’t have paddle shifters. Instead, u just shift with the gear lever like on a sequential trans in a rally car or GT1 racecar. My car also won’t let you downshift or upshift at certain points, but it only has the automatic downshifting. If you let it go to the redline, it’ll stay there. Also if you spin the wheels, it won’t let you upshift for a few seconds theoretically until it thinks you’ve gained traction. Downside of that is if you spin a little bit, and hit redline early, it won’t let you shift and you’ll just be awkwardly redlining for a bit at about 40mph in 1st until it lets u shift into 2nd & then you disappear. It also for some reason has a delay in the shifts.
When you slide over icy road need to reduce speed/use engine brake which paddle shifters should be used + or - and when you need more power for hilly area should be + or - and you need to pass the car on highway should be + or - ?
if you want to slow down use downshifting or -
and also if you want to climb up a steep hill and downshift or - again. it's like a bicycle it's easier to push the pedals in 2nd gear going up hill than 5th. vice versa when going down hill and you want more speed you would shift up or +
basically you want to watch your rpms kinda like the speedometer with practice you can feel/hear enough to be able to know when to shift up or down.
I can upshift pretty well with the paddle shifters, but I still struggle to understand when to down shift
If you want more acceleration, you need to gear down because the engine would have a higher RPM. It’s just like riding a bike. When you ride a bike in higher gears, you struggle to accelerate. But when you gear down, you find yourself being able to pedal more often and accelerate faster.
greetings from Switzerland Gstaad too complicated for me !!
Is there a delay in the shift?
Thanx 😊
thanks
So cars with paddle shifters a DCT??
Can you drop two gears on a corner to keep revs up?
No, you will completely total the engine and the transmission and it will be a total loss
@@don_huzan It'll burn all your blinker fluid too. I did it once... never again
Like the use of furthermore. Unexpected.
So if my car is fully automatic and I try using the paddle shifters my transmission won’t f uck up?
You can upshifting and down shifting with the stick too? Then what is the use of paddle shifters?
Paddles are only for automatics. Mostly for people that don't want to drive stick but are given that option
okay so in an auto you have have paddle shifting or the "paddles" can be incorporated in to the the gear selection for you.
Thank you. I just got a 2017 Camaro and had no idea what they were for.... and to be honest I dont think I will use them LOL
Do you need to step off the gas petal for a second while bumping up the paddle shifter as you drive faster?
( like how a clutch works)
Im just wondering if you were driving it into automatic Can you switch it to manual while the car is running?
According to the Dodge Charger manual you can put it into auto stick mode at any time, shift at any time, and shift while accelerating. The transmission will protect itself.
10.6 mpg average oof. I’m torn between a fast car and fuel efficiency.
from all the 50 videos (total waste of time) that are tittle "how paddle shifters work", Youre the only one who properly explains it!! Thank you!!!
Agreed!!!
