The visual for The Wonder Years' song "You're The Reason I Don't Want The World To End" from the album 'The Hum Goes On Forever' out now on Loneliest Place On Earth / Hopeless Records
    ---
    Lyrics:
    It’s already June.
    The light paints you pink
when it breaks through the cherry trees.
    You shout at the moon.
    We lay on your swing.
I’m right where I’m meant to be.
    The gray moves aside
for the first time in my life,
    so I think that I
    got the dosage right.
    Devil in your blood,
    the dull, unmoored ache,
the same one that haunted me.
    But the bearings could rust,
    and the circuit could break,
    if I love you entirely.
I’m finding hope in the pocket of my winter coat
with your gloves-a reminder that I’m not alone.
    I’m scared to my bones
    that I won’t find a way
to keep you and your brother safe.
    A fire eats the coast
    as the sea levels raise.
It’s like we’re circling the drain.
    The news keeps getting worse-
    the floods or the drought?
There’s a mass shooting weekly now.
And it feels like you’re cursed,
    like we’re letting you down.
So, I’m gonna dig you out.
I’m finding hope in the pocket of my winter coat
with your gloves-a reminder that I’m not alone.
You’re brave, so I’m brave, or I’m trying anyway.
Put the work in, plant a garden, try to stay afloat.
I don’t wanna die, ‘cause I gotta protect you.
You’re the reason I can’t leave here yet-
the reason I don’t want the world to end.
    I don’t wanna die.
I wanna light you through your darker months.
    I wanna swallow the sun
    before it can swallow us.
I’m calling home. Hear you laughing in the afterglow
and the reasons to abandon all my former ghosts.
‘Cause you’re brave, so I’m brave, or I’m trying anyway.
Put the work in, plant a garden, try to stay afloat.

The older I get the more I’ve come to realize that truly hopeful things often have an ache of sadness weaved in it. Hope isn’t simply that you only see the good, hope is when you know and acknowledge things are hard but you will keep trying. This song brought me to tears tonight. I’ve heard it before but tonight just hit me different. 🖤

beautiful. the very concept hope requires there to be an underlying badness. there would be nothing to hope for if that weren't the case.

@@MelodicEgghead Spanish Love Songs’ “Brave Faces Everyone”. The very end of the song goes “We don’t have to fix everything at once. We were never broken, life’s just very long. Brave faces, everyone.” A very appropriate lyric that helped me get through quarantine.

One of the first times I heard this song, my poor sick little cat climbed up into my lap at "I'm scared to my bones that I won't find a way to keep you and your brother safe." And I just held him like a lifeline for the rest of the song. And I cried harder than I ever have, squeezing all of the love I could into him at "I don't wanna die cuz I gotta protect you."

If there's never another Wonder Years album after this I'd be completely content with this being the final song you put out.
It really feels like Dan finally found what he had been looking for since the very beginning.

Exactly. This album concludes the themes from previous albums, and I feel it would be the perfect ending point for the band. As Soupy has grown up and has a family, it seems like he’s finally happy.

I was out in the cold last night when the album came out, and I got to be one of the first people among us to hear this masterpiece. I'll be listening to these 12 songs for the rest of my life with the other 5 albums and the acoustic couple. This song is the 'I Just want to Sell out my Funeral' of this album. And thats so fricking cool. I dont know of any other artist that does this with their albums. Literally like a story being told and the pay off is this emotional song with its throwbacks. It's like this song is Avengers End Game and the Album was the MCU

I first heard this mere days before I was told by my wife that she was pregnant with our first child. The way that I already felt about this song was amplified a thousand times in that moment.

I don’t think I’ve cried this much while listening to a song in a long time. I’m not a parent and I never will be, but I have nephew and I love him so much and I want to be here to watch him grow up. To quote another TWY song “It’s about not letting the sadness win” and whenever my depression starts creeping up on me again, I just remind myself that there’s a little boy that doesn’t care about any of that, all he cares about is that his uncle makes him laugh.
