Jake deciding to become a full time stay at home dad and give up on being a detective is honestly such a perfect completion of his character development. He went from an immature, irresponsible young guy who had a lot of unprocessed trauma from his dad leaving him during his childhood, and who was desperately trying to live out some Die Hard fantasy as a cop to a grown-up, mature family man who is capable of putting his childish desires to the side to be a man and be present for his son and for Amy, who both represent his true desire to make the stable family that he didn’t get to have as a child. It’s genuinely beautiful.
He loved being a cop, but he loves being a dad even more.
Beautifully put
I'm pretty sure some point in the future Jake would start being a detective again when Mack is older
@@comrademiku854thatd be such a good show like 20 yrs in the future when samberg is older
Jake: We will support him no matter what
Mac`s job in the future: Firefighter
Knowing Jake he’d probably still love his son, even if he was a firefighter
@@Azikiel2602 he would allow it but it would be so hard for him to support.😂
Mac:”dad I’m gonna be a firefighter 👨🚒 “
Jake:”cool..coolcool cool cool cool cool cool cool cool cool cool cool cool cool cool cool cool cool cool cool cool cool cool cool cool cool cool cool”
@@Azikiel2602 What if he becomes a lawyer?
@@superiorcomicfan He'd still support him
@@Azikiel2602 Obviously. I'm just joking.
Terry : The only puzzle he hasn’t solved is how to grow up.-SS1
Holt : I think you’ve finally figured it out.-SS8
The growth>>
Character growth!
Jakes development in this show is crazy. He went from a guy who’s whole life evolved around him being a cop, to a great husband who is now a stay at home dad
I think Jake becoming a dad made him realize what he really wanted to be. I think he wanted to be a dad but he was so scared to be like his dad that he gave up that dream and decided to be a cop instead. But then when he was introduced to the idea of an actually stable and loving household he was like "nah this is the beans"
I think this is a weird take. Jake loved been a cop, and a detective, and he got to live out every childhood fantasy he'd ever had. He was amazing at his job and had the respect of his peers. Then he met Amy, fell in love, and came to love the idea of being a father. Over the course of season 8 he realises that their has to be a compromise somewhere in the relationship to give Mac the attention he deserves. With Amy moving forward in her career and aiming for her dream of becoming Captain and knowing he's fulfilled all those childhood dreams he realised he can go full time dad without any regrets and be the father his dad never was.
It's not that he became a cop because he didn't think he could be a dad, then quit being a cop to be a dad when he realised it's what he really wanted. They're both what he wanted at the time, people grow and change, and that's what happened with Jake.
Do you mind if I use "nah this is the beans" 😆
Jake’s face at Amy trying to act like it’s no big deal that Mac can’t pull himself up yet.😂😂😂
8:09 “You can’t do it halfway, it’s too important.”
Jake’s character development showing itself right there. He figured out how to grow up by giving his 100% to his detective work, relationships, and now fatherhood. It’s sad that he gave up his dream job of being a detective, but at least we know that he’s very good at it and can always come back to it when the time is right.
Yeah, as beautiful and moving as his decision was, it's super sad that he had to give up his career when the other parents got to have family and successful careers with promotions and new partners while stay at home parents are often unappreciated and looked down on.
he also didn't make it a "title of your sextape" joke which, would've been funny as the last one, but also shows his growth as someone who is now a father.
Jake being terrified of being a father reminds me of what my mom tells me whenever i say im scared of starting something big.
"Good. That means you're taking it seriously."
That is actually amazing advice.
The sheer joy on Jake’s face when Mac pulls himself up is heartwarming.
Can we just take a moment to appreciate how adorable Mac is?
Oh obviously that kid is not sleeping until he realizes how cute he is
He’s such a sweetheart, he stole my heart instantly, the sweetest baby boy. 🥹❤️
Mac is actually Amy's real child. (Melissa Fumero)
Aw, yeah, I love that fact so much, it's so cute to have Mel's real baby play Mac, it's perfect.
Jake loved being a cop, but he loves being a dad even more.
2:41
This is the exact moment where the Jake starts thinking about retirement and staying home with Mac.
Charles lullaby is actually really good
It's amazing indeed
I feel like once Mac was old enough, Jake would end up rejoining the NYPD, and surprisingly end up back at the 99 with Charles or Rosa as one of his bosses with Terry.
Imagine having two defective parents. You can’t get away with nothing
Your comment is detective
(But that somehow makes it better!)
That scene at the end where Jake is like I have a new dream job now. It gets me in tears every time. Anyone else or is that just me? 😢
“I don’t have time to know what’s true!”
How I get through most days right now tbh
This man is such a great dude. Any girl would be lucky to have him.
Truly just the best man.
Peraltiago forever
Yess
Man, wish we can see Jake more as a father because I have no doubt he’ll be a VERY good one.
THIS MAN IS MY EVERYTHING
Jake talking about quitting kinda broke my heart tbh
Yeah, it was certainly very bittersweet and moving in a sad way as the other parents get to have careers and families so it was a very honourable sacrifice from Jake. 🥹🥺
Man these two are couple goals🥺🥰
Jake is such a goofball of a dad
the dadest dad
I can personally vouch for this
A firefighter touched our child
The best line
Dad-Jake is my favorite genre
What I loved is that Amy gave birth to a full 3 month old baby! 😂 Either that or she is wonder woman 😅
It's against the law in the US to use babies younger than 3 months for filming, especially newborns.
my whole family (parents + siblings) love this show and when my parents told us they're ending it after season 8 i yelled" NOOOOOOOOOOO"
last clip always gets me crying 😭
I’m sorry but axel is the cutest thing ever!!! Axel Melissa actual son who is now 2 played Mac in the show!!
nice way of making me cry again
0:45 implies that in 17 years, not only will Mack be a basketball superstar, but the Knicks will still be so bad that they have the number 1 draft pick
Jake Peralta is an amazing father/genius!
Ok if I sell my soul can I get a Jake?
Awesome likeable character
How many times you gonna comment bro?
@@LondonBridge99 not that much the character are very likeable
We need so much more than each other😂😅
I have to admit that the finale of B99 with Jake deciding to leave the force was conflicting to me. The decition of becoming a stay at home dad for the benefit of his family was great, shows maturity and growth, but it is something that reflects perhaps on my own fears about fatherhood, the fact that you can't have it all, whether it is if the mother or the father staying at home, it results in someone's dreams not being realized, and this feeling might change with age and maturity for me, but just like in real life I suppose, you can't always get everything you want, and perfect endings are not reality, and I guess the show got "too real" for a sitcom.
Either way, I suppose that shows how good it was, when the expected black and white fairy tale is shaded gray.
Yeah, it’s certainly a bittersweet ending and with everything that Jake’s already been through and sacrificed, it was a shame to watch him make such a big sacrifice in the last episode (especially because of the cruel heist tricks and the lovely other leads in B99 and selfish jerks like the TBBT men getting everything they want and getting to have all their dreams), so while I love Jake giving up so much to support Amy and be there for adorable Mac 24/7, I still wanted better for him and other sitcom women from different shows.
@@heatherstephenson3559 the writers went on to hammer it home thst it wasn’t a sacrifice for jake to leave the force though. They maybe needed more episodes instead of just 10.
@@heatherstephenson3559 and he wasn’t giving up his dream to support amy. Because let’s be honest, Amy’s career was all about momentum and trajectory. Jake was happy where he was being a detective. Which was cool. But Jake wanted to leave. I honestly think they could have made it work, like Any said people do it all the time. Terry has two kids. But Jake wanted to be at home with Mac. I think the ending is mature.
@@sammiepittman3130 I get your point about how he wasn't really interested in promotions in the same way that Amy was and I understand why it ended that way but it still feels a bit unfair to have an uneven ending like that and I felt that he deserved better after giving up and going through a lot and while he can look on the bright side a lot and truly felt that it was the right choice, he was still doing it for Amy and Mac rather than for his own happiness.
He's the best dad ❤full time dad is so underrated thing
Charles is so cool
Mac is so cute!!!!!
They're really cute 🥰🥰🥰
Cool cool cool cool cool cool cool cool cool

HA! Nice pun (not sarcasm
How did i not see this season?
Jake is a good Dad😇😇😇
Bumblebee a PREQUEL?! Good grief, Peralta!!!
Wasn't Jake a Nets fan? Why does he want his son to be drafted by the Knicks
Because this means that Knicks had a terrible last season? I don't know, just a possibility LoL
4:44 oh... uh, yeah, I'm pretty sure jake just pissed off many transformers fans with that statement.
Bring 99 back
Does the maple syrup thing actually work?

Both parents can't have a full-time job as police detectives and raise a baby. Its unrealistic that they would even think to attempt it and sadly just really bad writing.
for me; the worst of this series was when they made him a dad and all the process that amy had to went throughout. awful, just awful.
why?
Jake parelta is the best character development in any sitcom ever!!!
