To contemplate happiness in the worldly objects or worldly people - is the main reason for our suffering. The worldly happiness is temporary. The same object which is the source of our happiness, becomes the cause of our sorrow, when we are separated from it. Swamiji illustrates this with the example of a man, who while swimming, suddenly sees a gold stick floating in the river Ganga. His joy knows no bounds & he immediately grabs it. But soon he realises that he can't swim with one hand. To protect his life, he drops the gold stick into the water, and becomes immensely miserable upon losing it.

But the Allas thing is that by knowing the truth from the saints repeatedly too our intellect hanker on those material things only. Thank you very much Swamiji for such an inspiring speech. Swamiji nicely explains.Our struggle for happiness in the material world is like a mirage in the desert. Due to our ignorance we seek happiness in the desert of the material world and it is the reason for our sorrow. We can get happiness in God only, who is the treasure of love and bliss.
