I’ve been trying to get a custom map to open but when I put it in the maps folder of my mod and open the game it isn’t there.

Check if you put the custom map in the mod folder in data>art>maps

If it doesn't appear in the Custom section of Skirmish in the game, it means it's not in the right folder. A map made for one mode won't work in another.
