    @Tech Planet Could you make a video about the technical aspects of the Jetwing suit made by Yves Rosy ?

    I like the Lilium Jet at 3:54. It looks extremely stable, safe, and quiet. The range is also decent. Joby Avaiation at 5:17 also goes for about 150 miles, and might be my second choice, but the propellers are much larger and are likely louder and more dangerous. Ultimately though, price will be the primary factor; I just wish I could afford any of them.

      Do you REALLY think there will be a "Lillium Jet" for sale im 2024? How about 2042?

  • @tepidtuna7450
    @tepidtuna7450 2 роки тому +2

    Lillium is my favourite to date and they're entering their final platform certification phase. Despite the long gestation period 2024 is very likely for it to enter service.
    Volocopter is another design I really like. Lots of redundancy and an inherently stable design.

      Lillium Jet has a contract to begin in Florida in 24. All the FAA stuff looks good, I wont list it all. Short answer yes.
      I like that one . Has 38 small rotors. The redundancy equals safety. Computer doing the flying. It appears viable and quite safe.

    What about fitting an aircraft APU generator to top up the batteries as you fly, they can weigh as little as 53 kg, less than one person, that is the only way to get longer flight times

    • @ddegn
      @ddegn 2 роки тому +2

      I initially thought the term "APU" referred to the small turbine engines used in airlines. After a bit of Googling, I see some APUs are internal combustion engines.
      I agree with you. Some sort of generator is needed in order to increase the flight times and increase the payload capacity of these VTOL aircraft.

    Why aren't companies just build electric helicopters? They already take off vertically and don't need a lot of space. I think they could also be made in a smaller scale to fit the personal use.
    Could you please answer my questions? :)
    Thank you in advance!

    • @Tech_Planet
      @Tech_Planet  2 роки тому

      Thanks! It comes down to cost because electric craft are cheaper/easier to maintain (in a nutshell). There is also access to a bigger market because of more safety features(like multirotor failure) & autonomy.

    • @philnolan7193
      @philnolan7193 2 роки тому +2

      An electric helicopter would require similar horsepower as its ICE counterpart, but batteries do not yet have the energy density to do the job. There is a steep learning curve to control any helicopter, and lastly, safety concerns because of the exposed spinning rotor blades.

    Setting aside the performance profiles of each of these remarkable devices, the major concern (of mine) is the "other driver" or pilot coupled with congestion meaning that to safely operate thousands per square kilometer there may b a need for controllers and police.

    Vtol drones, like Doosan & Intelligent Energy, & simply physics keep insisting fuel cell electric is the better option for short to mid range flight, as well as with handles into longer standard planes looking at Airbus' next-gen plane projects. Longer flights, quicker recharge/refuel, and much larger flight capacity (as well as increasing battery demand in cars) insist upon it. And still zero emission.

    These things need to have the ability to produce and use electricity instead of just using it ie with batteries, otherwise they'll always be inefficient, as the batteries drain they still have to move the same amount of mass. Diesel electric trains are nothing new and are essentially the og of hybrid electric vehicles. These trains utilize internal combustion for electricity production only, with electric motors moving the locomotive. That's why I never understood automotive hybrids with their ic engines responsible for driving the vehicle with the electric motor and battery being used as a power booster or taking over completely in certain traffic conditions. A small efficient ic engine like a 2 cylinder gasoline direct injection engine used as a generator to maintain x level of charge in the vehicles battery pack would go a long way towards getting people on board with electric vehicles,virtually eliminating range anxiety and especially those who live in places where the only parking is on the street in front of your house. Living in a . Town or city like that presents a bit of a challenge to charging an ev when your only option is to run an extension cord out to the car to charge over night and hope nobody screws with it, or hope your neighbor doesnt hate you and wont unplug your car so you can't get to work in the morning (you deserved it Jamal and youre lucky thats all i did.) A true hybrid system could be programmed to maintain a steady rate of charge whether the vehicle was in use or not and the emissions would be trivial as the engine would never be under a heavy load

    100 miles range is nothing. I am unconvinced that electric vehicles are viable alternatives to fossil fuel vehicles because to the lack of power station capacity, the lack of charging infrastructure and the slow charging speeds. Until we get to 1000+ mile range they are impractical.

      @@KRAUCH74 I am not sure what being an engineer has to do with my comment. Elon Musk Car still only has a 300 hundred mile range and takes a considerable time to charge, unlike a diesel car. Also wind and solar currently being installed by countries dont include a viable storage system. So when the wind dont blow or at night there is no power generation. Even Elon's solution to that conundrum are unaffordable and take up massive amounts of space. You dont need to be an engineer to understand the current (no pun intended) physical limitations of so called green energy and battery operated equipment. You just need common sense.
