Take Astraea for one - now it's a song shared by Garl and Astraea, as opposed to just Astraea; I enjoy this dynamic shift in the music, depending on how long you do battle with Garl.
Gotta agree on that, the old theme seemed to fit for the fight much more. That said, I would argue that the new rendition of the song is a much better musical piece overall.

It gets more intense as you are fighting Garl Vinland and then complete silence once you kill him up until you approach Maiden Astrea. I actually like what they did here but the soundtrack doesn't deliver the dynamic aspect of it like gameplay does.
The original is very somber and slow. It isn't fight music. It is the song that represents Maiden Astraea begging you to leave her, garl, and the wreches of the swamp alone. The remaster is too powerful. It sounds like they are trying to fight to push you away instead of standing their ground and begging you to leave. It isn't bad by any stretch but I feel like the original fits best.
The new one will be better if Garl Vinland's AI isn't as clunky as his old one A harsh pvp like combat with this ost will make it even sadder, but unfortunately, he's being parried/chain-backstabbed to death most of time, kinda ruined the moment

I absolutely love the original soundtrack, because it was has that strangely mysterious and otherworldly vibe, while this one is more "epic". There are tracks that i prefer in the original, but some of the tracks have been improved in the remake as well.
IpsilonZ people keep saying the tracks are “epic” in the new one, and I don’t see it. Yeah they use more detailed instrumentation’s with a proper choir, but I don’t feel it detracts from the energy of the game. It’s more detailed yes, but when I hear the new astraea theme it feels just as sad. Idk everyone to their own I guess
I enjoy the way it sounds when the penetrator theme reaches it's end. In the beginning it starts off presenting the penetrator himself while in the end it sounds as if it got corrupted.
I love this OST with all my heart man. Whenever I'm struggling with a long school assignment, especially any major paper, I come here and pop this on. The choir and orchestra absolutely nailed every aspect of these tracks. This is an actual masterpiece.
32:13 - 33:35 Most Bloodborne-ish part of the whole soundtrack. It even fits the lyrics "sanguine sanctum". I love those violins. Gives me Blood-starved Beast PTSD lol Demon's Souls OST is such a weird mix of all of Soulsborne, being the forefather of it all. Every time I think "oh it sounds like that now" it shifts into something else. I have absolutely obsessed over this game. It is my first souls game have played. I have beaten it 6 times with a different, unique character. And now, listening to this music, all I want is some kind of VR experience in this game.
so far ive seen most people complain while im just grateful that bluepoint clearly worked on the remake with a lot of passion. and guys get over the fact that the old ost was indeed, but also sounds pretty outdated. this ost is amazing. just be grateful to bluepoint for picking up this massive project and working on it with so much passion. be happy we can play this game with good graphics, framerate and omnidirectional rolling. the kinda reactions ive been seeing everywhere is exactly why it took so long for this remake to be made in the first place. yall make people afraid. just be grateful for once

@@Chumpskey no I’m not deluded. Have you played the songs in game? Because a simple UA-cam video of the track does not suffice. As well, each track is modular to the fight/scene, meaning certain points of the song is only used in a cutscene and the bulk of the track are the parts that sound like the original. For example, the start choir part of the fools idol does not play in the fight, it plays in the cutscene, and works well since as she descends, the scene goes from one of false hope to one of sheer terror. This is smart since it matches the lore of the area, and the boss. Then during the fight it plays the entire piano motif like the original. That’s something people seem to not understand. Another one is the maiden in blacks song, as the holy chanting is only played in the intro summon cuscene at the start of the game. In game it’s the good old harpsichord, nothing more. And I disagree that the composition has changed. The only real things they change in composition is the goofy doots of trumpets are changed to high choir notes and the low honks of trombones are from low choir notes. Other than that the instrumentation is the same. Fools idol still uses piano, maiden astraea still uses harpsichord. So, if the instrumentation is almost exactly the same, and the motifs are exactly the same, and the only change is that it has a more detailed array of sound, it’s suddenly bad??? Listen, you’re the one calling me deluded, and yet the songs are so similar to the originals it is literally mind boggling how upset people are. I understand personal preference, but if you just prefer the og, you wouldn’t go talking about how shit the new one is. You would just accept you prefer the og and just listen to that instead of preaching the same hate babble to people despite us already hearing it 10000 times. Penetrator actually has a unique theme now, one that far better represent his character and lore, storm kings track is actually intimidating now and feels like I’m fighting a giant monster. I’m just gonna say this. I actually genuinely really love this new soundtrack, it feels like demons souls is it’s own world which is exactly what it is. Umbasa.
Now after I have fought some of the bosses I can say that "Storm King" "Flamelurker" and "Maiden Astraea" are my favorite tracks. Storm King being on top of them. I have yet to fight the final bosses but so far there have made a great impresion on me during the fight. Loving the game so far.
I’m quite fond of many tracks on the Demon’s Souls soundtrack and it’s a shame that some of them are missing here. However, to say that these re-done versions are terrible is a bit of a stretch. I don’t think they’re “ruined” and in fact, many of them sound pretty amazing. Honestly, amazing. To have both the original to listen to and these different versions that aren’t all keyboard samples is fascinating. The melodies are still the same overall and I think that’s what matters. They put effort in this guys. I think we should at least appreciate that. I mean come on, two Demon’s Souls osts? Yes please! The more the merrier, especially when it comes to Soul’s music.
yeah i kind of hold the same sentiment but i can't help but wonder what they could have done with the same vibes the old soundtrack had but made it new in some way besides making it sound more like bloodborne/dark souls 3 BUT i'm not complaining too much because i adore both moden darksouls AND demons souls so idk. I have both soundtracks in a music playlist and i like both.
the original wasnt keyboard samples, it was actually live. theres actual musicians credited in the sountrack disk. it was just recorded in a pretty small room iirc.
@@zent8324 There were some real instruments in the original OST, but a lot of it was definitely synthesized. As a brass player, the original score has some of the fakest sounding brass I've ever heard. Not saying it's bad! They did the best they could with the resources and budget they had.
The OG is in my top 3 games. Absolutely adore this remake and both the new and old soundtracks. It's really nice to hear the classic songs as well as the orchestral take. I just wish there was a slider in game to jump between the soundtracks based on the mood I'm in. Would be really fun to do a classic song playthrough. Thank you BluePoint for this gift, I never thought one of my favourite games of all time would ever get this treatment, so I'm just happy it has. 💛

I played THE HELL out of Demon's Souls since when it was released back in 2009. It was my first Souls game and It hooked me in the franchise for good. I STILL play it in my freaking old as hell PS3 whose sole porpoise is Demon's Souls (And it will be until I manage to get a PS5). Having said that I can totally say that the nostalgia hasn't fucked with my ears: The soundtrack in the remake is ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC. Both are equally good in their own. Bluepoint did an amazing job. Sad crap that even people who never played the original game now says that nonsense that the original OST was much better. It is not, both are awesome.
some of the remakes are very good. i do miss certain things though - like the drum roll in the opening, or the 'ha ha ha' in the tower knight. i think the remakes of pentrator and flame lurker are spot on.
As someone who played all souls games except for the original demon souls, I have to say that this spundtrack is sublime! The orchestral work is amazing! But I get that it might not live up to the nostalgia that some of the OG's (original gamers) have here.
The Old Monk OST in this version is freaking amazing! So menacing...makes playing as the boss even more enjoyable with the overbearing Choir and running strings! I purposely draw the fights out when I'm the Boss to torture the hosts. I feel like that's what the original Old Monk would do to anyone who steps into his chamber trying to claim his precious Demon Soul. Great remake, very happy with it!

The remake looks awesome and I like the new soundtrack, but I can't stop thinking it misses the uniqueness of the original, it's particularly true for the Tower Knight which was so memorable with the laughters, while the new track seems to be straight from Dark Souls 3.

I for one never was the biggest fan of the og demons souls soundtrack either, and much prefer this new soundtrack. But I can understand people that prefer the old soundtrack as well. Listened it separately and I love it! My dream was to hear Demon's Souls music performed by full orchestra and choir, and finally it comes true! I'm more than happy to hear all melodies in this new arrangments. The only bad thing for me is that Sony didn't invite original composer Shunsuke Kida, to rearrange his own music by himself and give it to studio arrangers instead. Perhaps he doesn't know how to work with big orchestra, so he let it to the Sony sound team. But other than that, I like this new version of the soundtrack and, of course remake itself. Yes, I appreciate the original efforts of composer to give a unique sound for the small ensemble of 20 or so musicians, but as mentioned this music desreved a biger orchestral ensemble and finnaly got it and I'm very happy about it. Definitely return to this album, after full walkthrough of the remake.
The new soundtrack has grown on me. At first I thought it was good but not suited to Demon's Souls. then I realized, it's not for Demon's Souls but for Demon's Souls REMAKE.
"One Who Craves Souls" is an interesting new arrangement and provides new layers and depth to the original piece. Nonetheless, I find the layers in the original piece, despite being synthetic, so rich, unique and finely (out of) tuned - and despite the overall piece feeling a bit repetitive. I really want to hear what you all could come up with using the new piece, maybe layering the old track onto the new one.
Yeah, "One Who Craves Souls" had always been my favorite, even among pieces from the newer Souls games, it just carries with it a powerful sense of bittersweetness, be it melancholy or some vague sense of doubt. While I do like the new iteration of it, it feels... too grandiose? I feel as though the addition of a slow, drawn-out choir and what seems to be a slightly more drawn-out pace to the song makes it... not as impactful?

Glad I'm not the only one. I get major Bloodborne vibes from the whole OST just from how they use the chorus and strings. I just started playing Demon's Souls today, so I had to look up the OST this evening to give it a listen.
I beat this game yesterday. My first souls game. I loved it!!! Such an amazing game! Edit: for those wondering, I died a total of 38 times in my first ever playthrough.
I think the new soundtrack is fantastic, but it feels incredibly out of place. Stuff like the new Tower Knight theme feels less like DeS and more like GoW. I like some renditions, in particular the ending themes and the Penetrator, but I prefer the original for everything else, especially for stuff like Allant's theme. For as weird as the old one is, it has tons of personality to it.
@@Odinsday See, for me the first game was just too bleak. To this day, it remains one of the most depressing video game experience I've ever completed. That's not not bad or even a complaint. But because of this, I have to actively prepare myself before starting a new file, and DeS has always been my least favorite From Soft game for this reason. The remake made the game more palatable to me on almost every level, and I prefer the more triumphant tone of the soundtrack. The original is a masterpiece; but not one I enjoy.
I feel like most of the times when brass is introduced into any of these tracks, like most film compositions, the brass is used to express negative emotions like anger and sadness compared to the mystery that the brass expresses in the ps3 ost. I like both interpretations though. Especially since low brass always be going ham in this one.

I never played demon souls, I feel this game will be so good , one day I'll buy it, but, after hearing this a while, now I play this when I play Dark souls 1, I like this music , And with this music I finaally beated the game on ng+, so thank you.
I like what they did with some tracks. Less so with others. The issue is, many of them have lost a lot of their character/uniqueness. The weird horror/comedy combo. The silent moments. Tracks that were brooding yet playfully unsettling are now just screaming at the top of their lungs how epic they are. While they are cool, they miss the point. That said, I will definitely listen to it some more and enjoy it. It just could have been much more. And that's a damn shame.

Yeah I agree this. I wouldn't say it's totally just Dark Souls, which mostly just sounds the same, but this loses the grotesque humor of some of original tracks. I mean the adjudicator track in the original had a kind of quasi bird call going on it (between the bassoon and I think the clarinet?), which totally fits the boss fight. If that's in the remake I certainly can't hear it. I also can't hearing the sliding, angular string lines that were at the end of the original's loop. It was cool, kind of disturbing sorts of music. Not everything *needs* full orchestral forces, and, while the remake's music is good, it just loses the charm the original had.
The music is amazing, there is no denying that... What I wanna know is where you got that background... and if I can get it, moving animations and all for my laptop.
You know....... listening to this I gotta say i can't hate it since we still do have the originals and its not like someone is going to just rip those off of the internet, but its so strange hearing how Demon Souls OST has changed in such different ways. Its like when the composers went into redesigning these tracks for the remake they had just gotten off of a dark souls 3 and Bloodborne binge, and the tracks reflect a tonal shift more towards those games compared to how Demon Souls was when it first came out. I don't hate these soundtracks cause hating Soul's osts is very hard for me since the composers usually make me happy 99.99% of the time, but i feel like the lost the spirit of Demon Souls somewhere in their composition. Tracks are meant to fit the fights they take place in and outside of a few it feels like the composers forgot how some fights were in the original, for example: Maiden Astrea's theme is such a massive tonal shift that I wonder if any of the composers had even played the original fight, it just sounds way too epic for the somber and depressing that boss fight was, if you think about it the original basically played out like a murder with how little challenge Astrea and Garl Vinland could even put up to you. Ah well, i'll enjoy these remixes as best as I can but I think the Composers need to look at the context of some scenes more next time and not just default to the orchestral's I'll admit i loved from Dark souls 3 and Bloodborne.

@@Chumpskey no I’m not deluded. Have you played the songs in game? Because a simple UA-cam video of the track does not suffice. As well, each track is modular to the fight/scene, meaning certain points of the song is only used in a cutscene and the bulk of the track are the parts that sound like the original. For example, the start choir part of the fools idol does not play in the fight, it plays in the cutscene, and works well since as she descends, the scene goes from one of false hope to one of sheer terror. This is smart since it matches the lore of the area, and the boss. Then during the fight it plays the entire piano motif like the original. That’s something people seem to not understand. Another one is the maiden in blacks song, as the holy chanting is only played in the intro summon cuscene at the start of the game. In game it’s the good old harpsichord, nothing more.
And I disagree that the composition has changed. The only real things they change in composition is the goofy doots of trumpets are changed to high choir notes and the low honks of trombones are from low choir notes. Other than that the instrumentation is the same. Fools idol still uses piano, maiden astraea still uses harpsichord. So, if the instrumentation is almost exactly the same, and the motifs are exactly the same, and the only change is that it has a more detailed array of sound, it’s suddenly bad???
Listen, you’re the one calling me deluded, and yet the songs are so similar to the originals it is literally mind boggling how upset people are. I understand personal preference, but if you just prefer the og, you wouldn’t go talking about how shit the new one is. You would just accept you prefer the og and just listen to that instead of preaching the same hate babble to people despite us already hearing it 10000 times. We get it, but you can’t force everyone into the same opinion as you.
And even, some tracks honestly sound better. Penetrator actually has a unique theme now, one that far better represent his character and lore, storm kings track is actually intimidating now and feels like I’m fighting a giant monster. Still, I personally prefer the original soundtrack, but I can objectively see how amazing the new one is and can accept if some are better. I’m not on the hate bandwagon, I respect what people think. And when is the motifs ever overshadowed, like ever. Bring some examples please. The new OST sounds newer and more detailed, just like how the remake looks newer and more detailed. That is the whole point, to bring an old game into the modern age, and if you hate it for being newer then you’re literally brainless. You want the game to sound old, there’s a reason why the original is still there. If you dont like the new ones, don’t hate them for it, it’s literally the goal of the concept.
I love and hate how for years the community have wanted a remake to make demons souls more accessible and new, but as soon as they get it, they winge, cry and scream about it being newer. Like people hate for the sake of hate and I just don’t get it.
I knew before the game even came out that I wouldn’t prefer it to the original, as the original has that ‘old game feel’ that just can’t be beat, but at least I can see the amazing quality of the remake, and both versions stand as my favourite souls game, right with bloodborne. Hope you take something from this, learn to be more open minded and escape you’re anti-everything box.

Now after I have fought some of the bosses I can say that "Storm King" "Flamelurker" and "Maiden Astraea" are my favorite tracks. Storm King being on top of them. I have yet to fight the final bosses but so far there have made a great impresion on me during the fight. Loving the game so far.
I also love the sound effects and vibrations as the storm king Flys right over you. It's spot on.

I’m quite fond of many tracks on the Demon’s Souls soundtrack and it’s a shame that some of them are missing here. However, to say that these re-done versions are terrible is a bit of a stretch. I don’t think they’re “ruined” and in fact, many of them sound pretty amazing. Honestly, amazing. To have both the original to listen to and these different versions that aren’t all keyboard samples is fascinating. The melodies are still the same overall and I think that’s what matters. They put effort in this guys. I think we should at least appreciate that. I mean come on, two Demon’s Souls osts? Yes please! The more the merrier, especially when it comes to Soul’s music.
yeah i kind of hold the same sentiment but i can't help but wonder what they could have done with the same vibes the old soundtrack had but made it new in some way besides making it sound more like bloodborne/dark souls 3 BUT i'm not complaining too much because i adore both moden darksouls AND demons souls so idk. I have both soundtracks in a music playlist and i like both.

the original wasnt keyboard samples, it was actually live. theres actual musicians credited in the sountrack disk. it was just recorded in a pretty small room iirc.
@@zent8324 There were some real instruments in the original OST, but a lot of it was definitely synthesized. As a brass player, the original score has some of the fakest sounding brass I've ever heard. Not saying it's bad! They did the best they could with the resources and budget they had.
The OG is in my top 3 games. Absolutely adore this remake and both the new and old soundtracks. It's really nice to hear the classic songs as well as the orchestral take. I just wish there was a slider in game to jump between the soundtracks based on the mood I'm in. Would be really fun to do a classic song playthrough. Thank you BluePoint for this gift, I never thought one of my favourite games of all time would ever get this treatment, so I'm just happy it has. 💛

Whereas this version is certainly pretty. Just as every other full orchestral game soundtrack sounds pretty, in basically the same way.
I played THE HELL out of Demon's Souls since when it was released back in 2009. It was my first Souls game and It hooked me in the franchise for good. I STILL play it in my freaking old as hell PS3 whose sole porpoise is Demon's Souls (And it will be until I manage to get a PS5). Having said that I can totally say that the nostalgia hasn't fucked with my ears: The soundtrack in the remake is ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC. Both are equally good in their own. Bluepoint did an amazing job. Sad crap that even people who never played the original game now says that nonsense that the original OST was much better. It is not, both are awesome.

some of the remakes are very good. i do miss certain things though - like the drum roll in the opening, or the 'ha ha ha' in the tower knight. i think the remakes of pentrator and flame lurker are spot on.
They should have given the option in game to switch to original ost like RE2 Remake did to appeal to both old and new fans of both soundtracks.

As someone who played all souls games except for the original demon souls, I have to say that this spundtrack is sublime! The orchestral work is amazing! But I get that it might not live up to the nostalgia that some of the OG's (original gamers) have here.
The Old Monk OST in this version is freaking amazing! So menacing...makes playing as the boss even more enjoyable with the overbearing Choir and running strings! I purposely draw the fights out when I'm the Boss to torture the hosts. I feel like that's what the original Old Monk would do to anyone who steps into his chamber trying to claim his precious Demon Soul. Great remake, very happy with it!

The remake looks awesome and I like the new soundtrack, but I can't stop thinking it misses the uniqueness of the original, it's particularly true for the Tower Knight which was so memorable with the laughters, while the new track seems to be straight from Dark Souls 3.

I for one never was the biggest fan of the og demons souls soundtrack either, and much prefer this new soundtrack. But I can understand people that prefer the old soundtrack as well. I just don't understand the people that are going bat shit crazy over these new arrangements.

Listened it separately and I love it! My dream was to hear Demon's Souls music performed by full orchestra and choir, and finally it comes true! I'm more than happy to hear all melodies in this new arrangments. The only bad thing for me is that Sony didn't invite original composer Shunsuke Kida, to rearrange his own music by himself and give it to studio arrangers instead. Perhaps he doesn't know how to work with big orchestra, so he let it to the Sony sound team.
But other than that, I like this new version of the soundtrack and, of course remake itself. Yes, I appreciate the original efforts of composer to give a unique sound for the small ensemble of 20 or so musicians, but as mentioned this music desreved a biger orchestral ensemble and finnaly got it and I'm very happy about it. Definitely return to this album, after full walkthrough of the remake.

The new soundtrack has grown on me. At first I thought it was good but not suited to Demon's Souls. then I realized, it's not for Demon's Souls but for Demon's Souls REMAKE.

"One Who Craves Souls" is an interesting new arrangement and provides new layers and depth to the original piece. Nonetheless, I find the layers in the original piece, despite being synthetic, so rich, unique and finely (out of) tuned - and despite the overall piece feeling a bit repetitive. I really want to hear what you all could come up with using the new piece, maybe layering the old track onto the new one.
The original "One Who Craves Souls" is the single best piece in any of these games in my opinion

Original Demon's Souls soundtrack wasn't midi, it was a live orchestra.
Yeah, "One Who Craves Souls" had always been my favorite, even among pieces from the newer Souls games, it just carries with it a powerful sense of bittersweetness, be it melancholy or some vague sense of doubt. While I do like the new iteration of it, it feels... too grandiose? I feel as though the addition of a slow, drawn-out choir and what seems to be a slightly more drawn-out pace to the song makes it... not as impactful?

Edit: for those wondering, I died a total of 38 times in my first ever playthrough.
The new soundtrack definitely gives the game a cinematic uplift. Not quite sure why it's light on brass and wind though =/
I think the new soundtrack is fantastic, but it feels incredibly out of place. Stuff like the new Tower Knight theme feels less like DeS and more like GoW. I like some renditions, in particular the ending themes and the Penetrator, but I prefer the original for everything else, especially for stuff like Allant's theme. For as weird as the old one is, it has tons of personality to it.
@@Odinsday See, for me the first game was just too bleak. To this day, it remains one of the most depressing video game experience I've ever completed. That's not not bad or even a complaint. But because of this, I have to actively prepare myself before starting a new file, and DeS has always been my least favorite From Soft game for this reason. The remake made the game more palatable to me on almost every level, and I prefer the more triumphant tone of the soundtrack. The original is a masterpiece; but not one I enjoy.
I feel like most of the times when brass is introduced into any of these tracks, like most film compositions, the brass is used to express negative emotions like anger and sadness compared to the mystery that the brass expresses in the ps3 ost. I like both interpretations though. Especially since low brass always be going ham in this one.
imma be honest i think it's just a matter of personal taste. i personally really don't like the original DeS soundtrack, probably because it sounds like it was all made with synths

I like what they did with some tracks. Less so with others. The issue is, many of them have lost a lot of their character/uniqueness. The weird horror/comedy combo. The silent moments. Tracks that were brooding yet playfully unsettling are now just screaming at the top of their lungs how epic they are. While they are cool, they miss the point.
That said, I will definitely listen to it some more and enjoy it. It just could have been much more. And that's a damn shame.

Yeah I agree this. I wouldn't say it's totally just Dark Souls, which mostly just sounds the same, but this loses the grotesque humor of some of original tracks.
I mean the adjudicator track in the original had a kind of quasi bird call going on it (between the bassoon and I think the clarinet?), which totally fits the boss fight. If that's in the remake I certainly can't hear it. I also can't hearing the sliding, angular string lines that were at the end of the original's loop. It was cool, kind of disturbing sorts of music.
Not everything *needs* full orchestral forces, and, while the remake's music is good, it just loses the charm the original had.

You know....... listening to this I gotta say i can't hate it since we still do have the originals and its not like someone is going to just rip those off of the internet, but its so strange hearing how Demon Souls OST has changed in such different ways. Its like when the composers went into redesigning these tracks for the remake they had just gotten off of a dark souls 3 and Bloodborne binge, and the tracks reflect a tonal shift more towards those games compared to how Demon Souls was when it first came out. I don't hate these soundtracks cause hating Soul's osts is very hard for me since the composers usually make me happy 99.99% of the time, but i feel like the lost the spirit of Demon Souls somewhere in their composition. Tracks are meant to fit the fights they take place in and outside of a few it feels like the composers forgot how some fights were in the original, for example: Maiden Astrea's theme is such a massive tonal shift that I wonder if any of the composers had even played the original fight, it just sounds way too epic for the somber and depressing that boss fight was, if you think about it the original basically played out like a murder with how little challenge Astrea and Garl Vinland could even put up to you. Ah well, i'll enjoy these remixes as best as I can but I think the Composers need to look at the context of some scenes more next time and not just default to the orchestral's I'll admit i loved from Dark souls 3 and Bloodborne.
