    Great videos... and you are a damned good mechanic. I'm 60 years old, and have always done my own work on all my cars... but I've seen many mechanics over the years, too. You have a great diagnostic ability, which is the number one most important thing, to get right to the problem, and fix or replace only the right parts. And how fast you get there... no drama, no busted knuckles, no dropped parts... very impressive. You are probably half my age, but four times the mechanic. Kudos.

      proto57 You are too kind... thank you! The diagnosis was done off camera. I try to post videos of the work that needs to be done / the removal of the failed part. Some of my videos contain diagnosis, but for the most part it's just "removal" of parts. The edited video also makes me look better / more competent. I still have lots to learn... and don't have access to the training I wish I had.
      I'm 47... so I'm not too far behind you! =)

    I have a 2013 Tiguan the large fan doesn't work but the small one does output test from scanne tool just the small one runs and i have a dtc for a blocked cooling fan is it a bad fan or i miss something?

    • @EXOVCDS

      It's most likely a bad large fan... the fan module is part of the fan. Replacing the large fan (with module) should solve things.

    Hello again brother I'm. Having a issue with my fans on my passat same engine and cooling fan setup as this tiguan anyways sometimes the fans will come on full blast when I put on the ignition the only way to turn them off is to remove the battery terminal sometimes they work normally meaning when I put on the ignition the fans stay off today they came on full blast when I switched on the ignition but it was raining so I turned on the ac shortly after and about 15mins into driving I realized the ac wasn't as cold and the fans had stopped working so I drove home and when I reached home and switched off the fans started back working normally with the after run pump like how it normally does when the car is considered hot by the ecm
    I scanned with my Ross tech found no codes checked the measuring blocks outlet coolant temp and coolant Temps all look good when the engine is warm I get 103 degrees checked the fan 1 duty cycle fans come on and I can see the duty cycle raise to the desired value even when the fans are malfunctioning the duty cycle is 92% etc so my real questions are will a faulty fan control module cause this or should I be looking at a relay or fuse? I tired looking for fuses or relays concerning the fans but the owners manual doesn't state anything for it assist please.

      Read the comments and got some diagrams wow just what I was looking for thanks

    • @EXOVCDS
      @EXOVCDS 6 років тому

      If the ECM is demanding a high duty cycle... look for a fault on the ECM input side or the AC Control module side (high AC pressure). If the fans are on high with LOW duty cycle, then I would suspect a fault with the Fan Module.

    • @shimon2476
      @shimon2476 6 років тому

      Thomas EXOVCDS today when the fans came on when I turned on the ignition they came on very high fastest speed IMHO yet the duty cycle was pretty low like if the fans where off it was around 9 percent so it sounds like it's the module from your input also when you say check ecm input side and ac high pressure what do you mean exactly thanks.

    • @EXOVCDS
      @EXOVCDS 6 років тому

      ECM input - coolant temperature sensor values
      AC control module - AC pressure / charge values
      If the duty cycle (ECM command) was low, then I suspect an issue with the Fan Control Module.

    • @shimon2476
      @shimon2476 6 років тому

      Thomas EXOVCDS OK Thanks I will change the control module Tom and update you so far the ecm inputs looks good as well as the ac side of things I feel. It's a faulty fan module with a sticky contact inside that causes it to work intermittently thanks again brother. BTW still waiting on that tsi timing chain replacement video ☺️

      +Clichefotos Climatronic or Dial Heater Knobs? The wiring diagram for the Climatronic shows 2 fans that work independent of one-another. Meaning that if one does not work, most likely, that fan is dead. Disconnect that fan and apply power & ground directly to the fan harness plug. If the fan does not work at either high or low speed, then the fan is dead If the fan DOES work at both speeds, then you have a wiring / control fault. If one speed works but the other does not, then the fan could use replacing. I'll send you a link via youtube message service to a wiring diagram that I have... so you can see that the module is NOT part of the fan (mounted remotely (not like in this video where the fan module is part of the large fan).

      Fan output command in % only means that the ECM is requesting x-amount of %... you need to check the fan module to see if the % is present on the command wire. If command is present at the fan, then it's a fan module problem... even though you already replaced it (I think you said that). Used / new? Aftermarket? Genuine? The fact that the fans come on, indicates good power & ground for the fans / module... but the "logic" part of the module could be corrupt or the signal not present. If you disconnect the fan module... does the ECM set a Fan code?

    Hi Thomas,
    I have a 08 Tiguan 1.4 TSI 150BHP Tiguan with a single Radiator Fan that is running in High Speed Mode only.
    The Engine Temp is normal and fan goes to full speed straight after engine start.
    The Fan only seem to be available from Volkswagen at approx £550 so I'm obviously eager to investigate further before buying,
    Any suggestions would be welcome,

    • @EXOVCDS

      I would do a full system scan to see if anything pops-up that is related to the fans. Fan should not run all the time. I would check if it gets a command to do so, from the ECM (check for a pulse width modulated signal at the fan module). You can also use a scan tool to run fan output test... the ECM will command the fan on... starting with low speed and the fan will get faster and faster. If it just stays at high speed, the big fan / fan control module is probably bad.

      @@dylanhager8548 The fan control module is part of the large fan... the fan motors are brushless and are meant to be controlled via a PWM (pulse width modulated) signal... to attain various speeds as need be. @EXOVCDS 8 років тому

      Only if your scan tool can do it... if it's just a code reader & data viewer, you can't do it.
      The scan tool needs to be able to access "output tests" or "actuator tests".
      If your scan tool can not do that... use a multimeter (scope would be better) and check power and ground at the fan module... and a pulse width signal (on / off signal) from the ECM at one of the wires going to the module.

    • @EXOVCDS
      @EXOVCDS 4 роки тому

      The radiator does not have a drain screw / valve... service info says to remove one of the radiator hoses... the lower hose is mounted a few inches higher than the lowest spot of the radiator, meaning that the bottom of the radiator will still have fluid in it. Same when draining the engine. Same service info says to remove a hose from the electric water pump... some coolant will drain out, but there will still be some coolant in the engine & heater core inside the car. Filling the system with water, running the engine for a bit and then draining again, can help mix & flush out all fluid. Use compressed air to force as much out as you can. When filling, fill with 60/40 mix coolant/water... to account for any remaining water that is in the system.
