I love that in an era where everything is being cut from school programs this school is still teaching shop class. Bravo!

Corbin's dad was my woodshop teacher in the late '70's. Still doing woodworking today because of that man!

You would be amazed by the quality of the projects that have come out of the shop at BVHS - a pool table, a piano, kitchen cabinets, bedroom sets - it truly is an amazing program!

I want to Thank you for showing the high school shops. I graduated from Buena Vista. Never had shop class but wish I did. Mr. Bennett was an amazing shop teacher...amazing teacher period. I watched Corbin grow up. It is just nice to see this program still going strong with a Bennett! My uncles did shop, my son and daughter were in shop class as freshman. I still have their tool boxes and my sons sander(wood hand made) My son did make his grandma a cutting board....she still uses 9yrs later. Shop is the best class in High School....especially in Buena Vista. Thank you again ❤❤

Mr. Bennetts and Mr. Schidt we’re the best shop teachers, loved woods and metals. Wish all schools had these programs. Saw some amazing projects over the years.

So nice to see Corbin take on the legacy of his Dad, Doug. All of my children had Doug at one point or another. Both of my boys have projects that grace our house today. Corbin has some really big shoes to fill and seems to be doing so quite nicely!

That's awesome - wish I had a shop class like BV when I was in school. I'm still amazed at the projects the students have made.

Corbin’s dad Doug was my wood shop teacher and ultimately my drafting teacher and he was the reason I am doing what I’m doing for a living for the past 25 years. He was more of a mentor in wood working but the year I spent learning drafting from him changed my life. Will never forget Doug Bennetts

I would love very much to see more schools do this and also things like electrical, plumbing, machine work etc. It makes such a well rounded person and gives them among other things confidence in tackling problems.

We had woodworking and metalwork as optional classes when I was in year 7. I didn’t like metal craft but fell in love with woodworking but ironically when I left school I became a panel beater and welder, including a trade teacher. I’m now semi retired and have gone back to wood where I have my own shop and make furniture. Pride of place in my shop is the very first thing I made in woodworking way back in year 7. (50+ years ago). It still has the mark the teacher gave me on the bottom 19.5 out of 20. Hahahaha.

awesome video, taught Vocational High School. Graphic design and printing at Somerville High in Massachusetts. retired after 24 yrs. We had the freshman explore 13 tech areas and then choose their top 3 choices and depending on how they did grades in academics and vocational, discipline, attendance they are ranked by top points down and the top points get into their first choice depending on their ranking. worked out great made the kids work hard on both sides in order to get to the tech they want to spend the next 3 yrs in

That's awesome! I think it's so important to give the students a little taste of all the areas and let them decide which path they want to go down afterwards.

@@CasualBuilds it is, was in the printing trade for 20 yrs and got myself certified in 94 to teach, we couldnt get any good help in the trade so l decided to teach what l know about printing, how to work and what is expected of you at a job. We have a awesome carpentry shop at Somerville High, in fact all the shops were rated number 1 in the state

One of my 8th graders popped a sawstop cartridge just last week. First one this year. Well there’s $150 I don’t have to worry about spending.
