What's Russian for (in British English) "Bloody Marvellous Mate!" ?? Thank You Sergey. This does cover all the problems I had - except the dreaded "Orphaned Buffer" (or did I miss that?) - anyway that's not a hard error, apparently. As with most tutorials, it all seems to make complete sense -- *after* I have struggled all day and fixed it myself -- BUT this is misleading. There's a lot more to be learned here, and its still useful in 2017. Excellent job.
Thanks for the video. It helped me realize this is probably not the right solution for me. I have been looking for a "how-to" for installing bacula on FreeNAS, since it is now a jailed plugin included as an option in FreeNAS. I definitely need something with a GUI I think - unless this format is "so easy a caveman could do it" and I just haven't figured that out yet. :)
Wait a bit, there is a very nice program Bat wiki.bacula.org/doku.php?id=bat. This is what you need maybe, it's a GUI to admin Bacula. I showed only console commands because for an installation you need only a terminal
edenreign if you're going with freenas, just use rsync tasks to grab your data and ZFS snapshots. no need for bacula. make sure you have ECC ram and plenty of it.
Thank you, Mihai. I was considering doing something like that. I'm using a retired PC maxed at 8GB ECC RAM. I think that should suffice so I'll give it a try. Thanks again. :-)
Hi pretty good tutorial you did there, but i still have one problem: when i try to start my backup job i get the error "Error: dev.c:120 Unable to stat device ... ERR=keine Berechtigung", keine Berechtigung means no permissions. Any idee what could be wrong?
Check backup directory permissions. If NFS mount - mounting options. Maybe also check passwords in config files (Check that director can connect to storage)
Sergey Pashinin The passwords seem to be correct, the permsions in Linux (im using ubuntu 13.10) are also set (i dont know if there is a extra group for bacula so i gave everyone owner rights. Still dont work...
Sergey Pashinin I think that my problem is the path to the Drive for my backups. Its an external harddrive and the path i am using is /media/BackupF/BackupServer/Backups BackupF is the name of the drive, BackupServer is the username which runs bacula and Backups is the Foldername. Could there be something wrong?
Lukas H. Maybe. What does "ls -la /media/BackupF/BackupServer/Backups" return? And try to use a local path (for testing) where "bacula" user can write.
Sergey Pashinin For the user who is running bacula it returns drwxr-xr-r I also tried using local a path ( /etc/testbackup ) but this also didnt work. Always the same message from the storage deamon: Filestorage does not exist
One of very useful videos . But Mr.Sergey Pashinin I have a problem. "Device "FileStorage" (/home/bacula/backups) is not open." ls -l /home/bacula/ drwxr-xr-x. 2 bacula bacula 4096 Feb 23 20:15 backups Can you help me !! Thank you.
Sergey Pashinin This ERROR appears when I executing (status dir) command into bconsole: Device status: Device "FileStorage" (/home/bacula/backups) is not open. I was editing sd.conf again but nothing change. I can't understand what is reason !! What is expected reasons for such problem? Thank you for reply ..
Mustafa Abdurrahman It can happen when the path does not exist. Or my guess: have you tried just to run a backup (just skip this error for now)? Do you see this error then?
Mustafa Abdurrahman As I remember this error is not serious at all (more like a status message) "This not an error. This is the expected output when the volume is not mounted."
Sergey Pashinin OK how can I mount the volume? I was running DIR and SD into same host and running FD into another one. The DIR, FD and SD are working good and all ports (9101, 9102 and 91903) are open, but when I trying to check SD status the message will directly appears.
at 7:06 when i write bconsole, it tell's me connecting to director localhost:9101 for 5seconds and then back to root@user: /home/user if someone knows why, i'll be glad
I really like your demo style -- understatedly amusing, yet still "all business". This video is very well done!
Very well made video with a great voice over - wish all youtube videos were made to this standard. Thanks Sergy. More please !
Nice one Sergey, very realistic video.. showing some standard troubles as well :)
P.S. "Disable Windows firewall" }:D
Nice job Sergey! Thank you so much for this.
Thanks
First bacula install video where i feel I'll be able to install it and get it working.
Spasibo, Sergey this was very useful, Horosho.

You are a lifesaver. Huge Thanks.
thanks for the video, it was very good.
but I wonder which version of ubuntu and bacula are you using?
I think it was Ubuntu 13.10 and Bacula 5.2.6.
The accent really did it for me :) #CountChocula
So where do I add the director's IP on the server? Also, where do I find the client function that I need to add to the director?
So if I'm backing up my files to an OpenStack instance which I believe is a linux machine, do I have to install a File Daemon on there too?
+Marty Aman You need Storage daemon there, but also File Daemon - if you want to restore on this machine. Usually just have File Daemons everywhere
Im trying to understand how the database work with Bacula? Any insights
Disabling Windows firewall is a bad idea, you can add a rule for bacula

Подскажите, умеет ли Bacula делать резервные копии всей системы в режиме реального времени?
+podonu нет, для этого Bacula не подойдет, лучше распределенная файловая система со снапшотами
Great tutorial - thanks.

When do you see this error? Try to play with (sd.conf)
LabelMedia = yes;
AlwaysOpen = yes;
AutomaticMount = yes;
Can a backup process be finished?

Good video, would like to see a follow up where you use a backup and replace data!
I can do that for you
Очень понятно объясняешь, спасибо, про Advanced Maryland Automatic Network Disk Archiver (amanda backup) есть возможность записать how to install ?
думаю нет, и я не использовал аманду
Count Bacula! :D
Which ip do you add in address
You must use your IPs where the services are running. I could use one just for example.
