This game has so many references from past games! The snowboarding stage Mushroom Bridge was a stage in Mario Kart: Double Dash!! It had the exact music and even included the shortcut that you can go on top of the bridge!
Mushroom Bridge was my favorite Mario Kart Double Dash course and now it's this awesome snowboard course! Oh yeah, I liked on the Ice Skating that it was bit of Super Mario 3D Land/ World! :D
To anyone questioning why Bowser and his son are playing a figure skating event that paints their affiliation in a negative light (i.e. helping Mario and Yoshi), they're playing a staged show where each performer is ranked based on their overall performance. So Bowser's goal was to basically out-perform Mario on ice. You supposedly can also play in a team format where you have four teams of four doing the same skating show, each team trying to wow the crowd more than the others.
And finally, the ice skating game is modelled after Super Mario 3D Land! The nostalgia is real with this game!
