Border View Farms is a mid-sized family farm that sits on the Ohio-Michigan border. My name is Nathan. I make and edit all of the videos posted here. I farm with my dad, Mark and uncle, Phil. Our part-time employee, Brock, also helps with the filming. 1980 was our first year in Waldron where our main farm is now. Since then we have grown the operation from just a couple hundred acres to over 3,000. Watch my 500th video for a history of our farm I filmed with my dad.
I started making these videos in the fall of 2019 as a way to help show what I do on a daily basis as a farmer. Agriculture is different from any other industry and I believe the more people that are showing their small piece of agriculture, helps to build our story. We face unique challenges and stressful situations but have some of the most rewarding payoffs in the end. I get to spend everyday doing what I love, raising my kids on the farm, and trying to push our farm to be better every year. I hope that I can address questions or concerns that you might have about farms and agriculture.
I hope you enjoy my content and ask questions as you have them. I'll do my best to answer anything I can. Thanks for watching!
I appreciate you subscribing to my channel and liking my videos. You can also find me on Facebook borderviewfarms and on Instagram @borderviewfarms

Thanks for the video
I really enjoy your videos, Nathan! One, among others, reason is it takes me down memory lane. I worked for John Deere for 36+ years and I see a number of parts that I touched in one way or another. One project I tried to get engineering interested in was commonization of spindles and hubs to take advantage of economies of scale. Plus, I grin a little bit when I see those suitcase weights. The material specifications allows for any cast iron to be used; however, demand is such that higher specification iron has to be used in order to meet demand. Please keep sharing what you’re doing.!
Seed warehouse: If you have the space, consider putting racks up for partial skids of bags along one of your other walls so you don't have to dig. You've probably already thought of that. They do save a lot of time and damage.
Doesn't really looks like there is enough room for a hi-rise rack. Because you need to have a lot of space in front of it if you want to reach it with the forklift.
If you place the racks on the side walls, you lose 3-4 rows for pallets. You cant do it at the back wall either you need the depth for the rows. Leaves us with the wall behind the treatment rig. That would come towards the middle of the warehouse and a lot of depth for rows is lost either.
As someone who participated in those FFA contests … before you were born probably, I would have loved to have seen those. I understand why you didn’t and shouldn’t record them. I still find it interesting. Good times and good memories.
great kid`s
Which truck are you gonna use for seed delivery this year?
Good morning. 😎🇺🇸
''may turn the treater for some more room....''
does the treater need to STAY NOT FROZEN :) in the temp controlled environmnetentz???
could it move onto the other side of the door in the overhangy part? or is that all takin up by the new trailer now????
Brock u r a good Hired man
Nathan, it would really be nice to get uncle Phil on a video, he just looks a quite a character and would add to the channel
That was uncle Jack in the time lapse and he is a character. He makes occasional appearances
While you have things torn apart, do you swap the discs following the tractor tracks with one that isn't?
good morning all
Good morning
Nothing like preventative maintenance, couldn't ever get my Brother on board with that , he always wanted to wait till it was time to use the equipment before he worked on it, never Agreed with him on that decision
Without giving numbers, how do you decide on how much crop to pre-sale before you harvest or even plant?
Do you said ok im planting 100 acres and i should get 50 bushles per acre, so that's 5000 harvested. So would you contract out 4k bushles?
Our general philosophy is to sell in thirds. ⅓ before the crop is planted, ⅓ between planting and harvest and then ⅓ to sell after harvest. That doesn't always work out and we are certainly estimating what yields will be but it allows us to price enough ahead to reduce some risk, cover our fall delivery needs, and still have some upside potential.
@BorderViewFarms i knew you did the thirds but wasn't sure on estimations.
Morning
I see uncle Jack showed up to supervise Brock. Lol. Kidding of course!
Good morning
