In 1992-93 I lived 10 minutes from this castle. We had many walks, played games and some picnics on the surrounding grounds. The weather hasn't changed much since then, too!
Lady Matilda 'Maud' Clifford is one of my ancecestors who was married to Edmund Sutton lord of Dudley who was a knight of Dudley Castle. Maud was born in Conisborough Castle and also died in Dudley castle.
Pretty neat to see the projector throwing images up on the wall, are there any other castles in england that do that? A full 360 degree projection mapped display in each room in the keep showing the typical furnishings of the time would be really cool as well.
Definitely! I feel sometimes castles could do a little more to tap into your imagination, and show you what the rooms were actually furnished with. Thanks for the comment :)
The Railway Children. Edwardian Era Novel. Published in 1906. One Rainy day at Oakworth Station in Yorkshire. The three Waterbury children sitting in the waiting room, waiting for mother to come home. Hope Mother doesn't get too wet. We don't want her ill again. Its like being in a sieged castle. The arrows & the bows striking agenist the battlements. Its more like a great big garden squirt. You're a great big garden squirt. Thank you. Stop it you two! There's a train coming. Oakworth. Oakworth Station. Mind you're heads. Its only a shower.
@@TheUntoldPast if you do come back then it might be worth your time taking a look at our church. As far as I am aware it's the oldest structure in Europe with continuous religious service - don't quote me on that though, could just be local rumours.
It had the roof and floors added in the early 90,s. my eldest daughter went with her class to see it all completed before it re-opened just before easter in 95
There's nothing 'forgotten' about Conisbrough Castle. And how was William de Warenne a son in law of William the Conqueror? He was married twice and neither bride was a daughter of William the Conqueror.
Some argue that Gundreda was daughter to William the Conqueror. Others say no, that she was more likely a distant relative to William’s wife, and a member of that household prior to her marriage to de Warenne. I just discovered that I am descended from the Warennes so I’ve been researching these details. It’s fascinating!

Far from forgotten for me. Lived right next door ....played in these grounds as a kid
That'd be amazing to have a castle next door! Thanks for the comment! Have a great new year.
@@TheUntoldPast happy new year too ✌

These families are my great-grandparents, as well. Love all the stories of our people!!
I live just 5 minute drive from here, was always fun to play here as a child and roll down the big hill at the side
Excellent video of a local piece of history
I grew up there and the castle cast a shadow over all. It branded us all. Pertinent, since I’m a brand expert.
i live in conisbrough rn
Also worth noting is how everywhere the De Warrrenes held Lands, they built Chantry Chapels, Only 4 of which survive today
I am a descendant of Wiliam de Warrene the 1st Earl of Surrey and i don't know where they got that he was a son in law of William the Conquerer?

Well worth a visit
Definitely agree with this mate! Lovely place to spend an hour or so.
When you live 5 mins away 🤣
What a pleasure it is to be visited by Harold godwinsson
Sad that Mining Subsidence is a bigger Threat to Conisbrough now than it ever was while the Castle was while a Stronghold.
I think tickhill castle is forgotten which is in Doncaster too. ?
I have been there. Got some attention from the locals as I am an Asian, quite unusual to the area

Not as I remember it. There was no roof on the keep. The place was used as a toilet and bin... The Ames family were the caretakers.
