Catching Mullet on bread in Portugal

  • I had a lovely few hours catching Mullet on bread in Portugal. I thought I`d show you the walk I had to where I decided to fish for Mullet, so that you could see for yourself how beautiful it is around Albufiera. So this is different from my normal videos,I`m just enjoying myself with the minimum of tackle catching a few Mullet on bread.

I'm up in the north of Portugal, near Porto, but have hours of fun catching mullet on bread here too. Mostly in the harbour, or in the estuary. Never a dull moment.

That was amazing to watch Keith. I have been going to Albufeira off season for years. Not been since Jan 2020 due to Covid. I leave my gear in a bar in the old town, hope it's still there when i finally get over again!. I fish ledgering on the bottom, using Prawns, not tried the float with bread, very interesting. I tend to catch Sea Bream up to a 1lb, mainly off the marina outer sea wall. One day i had a huge Sea Bream. I had no landing net so had to lift it by hand, it was that big that on lifting it broke 8lb Maxima. As i know you know, breaking 8lb Maxima takes some doing, i guess it was double figures, a huge fish. I had a visit one day off the National Guard police. They were ok because i was on holiday, but made me pack in fishing until i bought a licence, which i did the next day but it is a bit of a faff to get one. I have been walking on those rocks that you fished and know where they are. Next time i will give the float/bread a go, they looked like nice Mullet. Fancy a bit of that!!. Thanks. Andy. p.s. I fish Andy Starkey's Weds opens on the Dyke, so will say hello next river season so we can swop notes !

I caught the world record thin lipped grey mullet in Spain ten years ago. Not able to claim it but it was featured in the Angling Times.
These are the hardest fighting fish I’ve ever come across. The secret to catching mullet is small hooks and very fresh bread, don’t squeeze the bread on the hook too tightly. A massive mistake made by a lot of anglers.

Thanks for watching Alan, they don’t half fight like you say and they are great fun to catch.
I agree small hooks and fresh bread,I always mix some sloppy bread to attract them as I’m not near a marina and fishing the open sea 👍🎣

Hi buddy, where exactly is this? I'm heading there on Thursday and would love to do the same. That spot looks great for some float fishing. Is it near a certain beach so I could have a look?
