You're sense of humor bring a smile to my face. I laugh so hard when you were cutting a piece of housing, and you mentioned how it fly across the room and how the customers run over it. It was all in the finger movement (that how I get ya!!!) Lol
Hey, I absolutely love your content! I was a full time bike mechanic for close to 10 years and left the industry a couple years back. Since being out I have a new found appreciation for cycling and restoring old bikes. I love how you do videos for the “everyday” cyclist. Keep up the good work!
I'd seen some old Bridgies when I was a kid and they were impressive and super nice - not to mention their entire golf entity has the same impressive quality across the board! I'm a Cobra/Puma golf fella nowadays but Bridgestone golf equipment is second to none in my opinion ⛳🍻
I have one of these in the biggest size they made! The purple is soooo good. Unfortunately hardly any original parts except the stem and bars, but I’ve made it my own and I truly love this bike, one of the best riding I’ve ever had. 26x46 surly extraterrestrial tires fit great with fenders on my mine. Thanks for the video made me wanna go ride my bike!
That looks way more better, hey! I just found a late 90s Gary Fisher Hoo Koo E Koo that was basically hung in a garage and forgotten. Price was right at free-fifty! Can’t wait to get working on restoring it, I sold and worked on them at my very first bike shop job!
I have a 1991 Bridgestone RBT that I still ride and plan to ride forever. It came stock with 32mm tire so I hear the forward thinking. White bar tape too. Loved this video.
If I remember correctly Bridgestone died more for simply not keeping up with the Jones'. In there last year introducing models with rapid fire shifters and a titanium frame. But too late to save them. A couple months ago I finally got my hands on a '89 MB3 which was a dream bike for early teens me which I'm doing a slow restauration on.
The yen became very strong against the dollar in the late 1990s and early 2000s as the Japanese economy boomed. Lots of Japanese bikes stopped being sold in the U.S. because the profit margin went away for the Japanese bike manufacturers. Trek and Specialized and Cannondale were also making really nice home grown bikes at the time. There were a lot of troubles in the U.S. market for Bridgestone, Shogun, Panasonic, Nishiki and others. Not keeping up with the Joneses also didn't help.
Greetings from West Michigan. I found your channel several days ago and I'm enjoying it. In the old days I used to work on our bikes, and the neighbor's bikes , and the ones I found in the trash. I loved doing that, I swear I did. We have matching Giant "Cyprus" bikes from 2004 when we retired and I keep them running. I'm now my wife's caretaker and I have to stay close, but I do have time for one of your videos now and then. Thanks for sharing what you do. We'll keep watching, and maybe send you some tacos... RG
I haven't used bar end shifters in a long time. When i first installed a set on a TT bike back in my racer days(early 00's), I had no idea you could take them apart to install them. I spent forever getting the starting just right so when I used the shifter to tighten the expander bit inside the ends, the shifter ended up in exactly the right spot. Ugh.
Nice time capsule. If I recall correctly the original brake cable were dia-comp not shimano. You might have got away unscrewing the cable adjuster on the headset to get that housing length but I was glad you re did the rear brake cable. My first Mountain bike was a Bridgestone MB-2 so the brand is close to my heart.
Back in da day. I bought my wife a xo4 new and we still have it to this day. My daughters have commandeered it. I found another one and now we have 2 in the family. Even the XO4s are really well done. Cheers Dude! Great way to hang out on Christmas Day!
Merry Christmas and a Great New Year! BTW-Maggie, I just finished reading "Still True" last week Loved it! Have recommended it a couple of times already. Looking forward to your next book!
My only "problem" with this conversion is, that it actually DOES belong in a museum now because it's nicer to look at than actually ride it, imo. Ergonomics have improved so much since 1993, especially with modern levers and short reach bars. I couldn't imagine myself to ride with those old bars and levers for longer than 10 min. to the cafe just to look cool, and the latter is certainly debatable 😅
Just getting back into bikes after four decades away. Stumbled across your channel about a week ago and really dig the content. Being as you get at least some of your parts from Amazon, eBay, etc I think it'd be super helpful if you included links to said parts when available. Keep up the good work.
What a fabulous bike - would love something similar. Simplicity is the best in bicycles...... And, I can believe you have German ancestry - you're almost the double of Jurgen Klopp......
My 93 GT Tequesta had a similar conversion - came with wide mud tyres but I wanted mountain bike tough frame n components on a street bike and I think the wheels in 93 were still narrow n better suited to 1.5 light treads that can take 60psi. At one point it was my fitness blaster with a 52 tooth single front and close ratio 11-28 rear setup. Still going strong with thick but badly faded paint.
Merry Christmas And thank you for all you do. Someday we will have to meet. My shop is incredibly similar to yours. Specializing in used reconditioned bicycles
My X0-2 ‘93 has mustache bars and thumbies on it. The stem is black mtb , Ritchey style , I can’t make out the manufacturer. I squeezed, just barely, some 26 x 2.3” Volummys on mine as a tester … they do clear but tighter up front, (temporarily borrowed from my ‘85 Stumpjumper). I agree, some 2.15”’s would be a more easy fit. My good friend actually gave me this bike, (he’d be a better friend if it was a purple one!… Lol!). He generously knew I was looking for an MB-1 , but after overhauling it, I can’t let it go of the 2! If I find an MB-1 or an XO-1 I might let the 2 go, but it’s easy to keep these around if you are not pressed to give it up.
@@Korina42 THAT IS EXACTLY WHAT I WAS GONNA DO! PS: i was also going to try some Maxxis Ikons, do you know how those compare to the DTH's with regards to weight and roll? Merry Christmas Mr & Mrs Bikefarmer from Calgary, Canada! In my day these bikes were called Cyclocross bikes…the predecessor to today’s gravel bikes. Love the style but not a huge fan of the bar end shifting and the cable routing for them. Keep up the great work! Oven you videos and sarcasm/wit
I like the concept of the 26" wheel road bike. I have an old Surly LHTrucker touring bike set up similarly. I live in a rural area with hilly, but well maintained gravel roads. Currently using some 1.75 Bontrager tires on Velocity rims.
So for Christmas I got my 4 year old a knock off Lego G.I.-Joe set made by Hasbro. After assembling it with him, we had to put on some decals. One of the decals was the model number of this cobra four wheeler. The model number was “XO-2”. I thought someone at Hasbro was a Bridgestone loving cyclist.
Wow, was not expecting to see this! I didn't realise the XO-2 had the drop bars, guessing GP made the changes with public feedback after the XO-1s. I was tempted when I bought an 92 XO-1 from Minneapolis to have it sent to your shop to be tuned up. However it did not end up that way sadly. Ended up tuning it up at home watching your videos! Cheers Andy and have a great Christmas over the water! Also to add, my xo is all original and used Shimano housing so you were all good using that housing on this bike 😅
Except for really small riders 26 inch wheels are best equipped with 50 mm plus tyres. The resulting wheel fits inside the frame and it clears the feet while steering. For optimal inertia use 700C rims for tyres up to 32 mm and 650B rims for tyres up to 48 mm. For wider tyres use 26 or 24 inch rims. This is recommended by Jan Heine.
You're sense of humor bring a smile to my face. I laugh so hard when you were cutting a piece of housing, and you mentioned how it fly across the room and how the customers run over it. It was all in the finger movement (that how I get ya!!!) Lol

@@jonmccormick8683 To each their own. It may look better when that bar tape gets sullied up.
Nice.
I love color of this bike!
Merry Christmas, Farmer family! Keep it coming!
A very merry and blessed Christmas to you and your family
... we couldn't do it without you
Happy Holidays to the Bike Farmer family! Including the shop kitties!🐈⬛ from Key West Rick🌴🎄
Where does the Bianchi Volpe fit in as a proto gravel bike? I think they were around in the 90s?
Except for really small riders 26 inch wheels are best equipped with 50 mm plus tyres. The resulting wheel fits inside the frame and it clears the feet while steering. For optimal inertia use 700C rims for tyres up to 32 mm and 650B rims for tyres up to 48 mm. For wider tyres use 26 or 24 inch rims. This is recommended by Jan Heine.
Just exactly perfect. Merry Christmas Mr bike farmer ❤❤❤❤❤
Nice catch!
