Hello🤝 Tony, it's great that you found a flux that will make your already difficult job easier, thanks for the info. Regarding the Kimbo rm 218 flux, in Poland I pay USD 4.85 for 10cc (converted to dollars), I have been using it for years, it is good, but I don't like the smell. P.S. I didn't know they didn't produce it anymore, I need to stock up while it's available, best regards👍👍👍👍👍👋👋👋👋👋👋👋
Flux have many properties like how corrosive, acid level, vaporization temp, stain/gunk free, i like my flux more acid level for copper, for resoldering less acid level/corrosive for the pads that already has solder layer, so that don't create oxidation fast enough
I've bought both kinbo flux, a tube from ebay and a tub from amazon. The tube from ebay was much higher quality than the tub from amazon. Also try mechanic diamond flux, that stuff is crazy clear and great for pad replacement. Its literally crystal clear, low burning, and almost zero fumes. Crazy stuff.
Got exactly these white fake cans from Aliexpress and use this flux for everything :D even BGA! And it works okay most of the time, good to know the Master-Reballer is happy with it 😜❤️
Ive been using that stuff for a while. Some how ended up with an overload of stiri tf.. which smells nice but evaporates so fast. I find the fake kimbo is amazing for reballing and dropping new ports on boards. I use the stiri for general purpose and the wick clean up. No need for anything else honestlyz. Although i do want to try pure rosin like Soren. I think it also has it use cases
I wonder if they cut that stencil with a galvo head fiber laser. If you look at the holes under a high power microscope the edges of the holes won't be straight vertical because it's cutting on a spherical plane.
I do the same exact thing with silicone on engine parts I do use more obvious but I tap to get an idea of how even it is. I always get a uniform squish and never leaks.
1:20 yes it is still in production. You can buy it easily outside us. If something is not present in USA, then it not means that it not exist. Kingbo in small syringe with hologram sticker are almost always original (without those which has a flux in very snow-white color), and Kinbo in can are very often fakes, but not always.
1:35 "and it's not really for reball" When you say something like that, please add word "in my opinion". Because I'm working on Kingbo for 10 years. I made hundreds success gpu/chipset reballing, reflow. And I love that fulx. If you don't like it- then fine. If you don't know how to work with it on bga - then also fine, but please stop saying lies that it is not for bga work. A lot of people love that fux and recommend it for bga. You counted some "cons". But for me there is only one important thing, which good flux is not allow to do during bga - I don't want to my bga chip to jump up because of boiling flux at 180-240 degrees Celsius, and Kingbo doesn't do it.
I don't think is a trash because it is a new flux advertised everywhere like a cream soldering flux.. On AliExpress they sell it with bigger container..
Once another youtuber who repairs graphic cards recommended the interflux iF8300 for reballing. However it is not cheap and I am not sure if it is available everywhere.
it makes the balls shiny if you check under the chip using microscope after reball... it also makes sparking solder joints(using soldering iron), I mean sparkling.... sorry for my English😆
i think you should apply hot air while the chip is on the stencil? the stencil is mostly wont get soldered to the solder or to the pads, thus solves the miss alignment of balls right?
The problem is that the metal stencils are so thin that they will warp and bend when heated, damaging the stencil. They also block some of the heat causing more heat to go into the stencil and less heat into the chip causing you to increase the hot air temperature.
@@BugsNRoses_ thats the way for small chips. larger than RAM and you start having issues with the stencil warping and expanding. it doesn't last many cycles before its so out of shape balls get under it. he shouldve tried direct heating since this stencil was trash anyway, could've worked
0:54 oh, just change the type of stencil, to direct heat type, and stop complain. (I mean the type, where you have to heat the stencil directly, without take it off from the chip, then the solderballs will be kept in place by that stencil holes all the time)
@@networkingdude Nope, the solder paste sticks to the BGA stencil and not the chip. Also as soon as you start heating solder paste the flux thins out and starts spreading the paste. If the solder paste is in a mound and not flat, the mound completely collapses and really spreads out. Solder paste stencils are similar in thickness to aluminum foil, maybe a bit more. BGA stencils are closer to credit card or cardboard thickness, maybe a bit less. Solder paste is applied at the factory extremely thin, and the main way to add more is to increase the area it is applied to instead of increasing the thickness. In other words there is a larger opening in the stencil when you need more solder paste. Once the solder starts melting, the metal's surface tension makes it bead up or climb the edge of a component. On a BGA the paste would spread all over the entire chip and wouldn't form consistent or big enough balls.
Ive always bought kingbo, or at least tried, amazingly they created a fake of their own products.... The real stuff does work well and is a good price.
