  • My trip to Bempton Cliffs to photograph the sea birds started off on the Friday morning, arriving very early in the pouring rain, and a quick walk down to the cliffs before getting absolutely soaked sorrows returning to the RSPB Bempton cliffs nature reserve cafe for a hot drink and a bite to eat.
As the day wore on the weather cleared up and the sun came out so we headed back down to the cliffs to start looking for the Gannets, puffins and other sea birds to video and photograph.
After a few hours, we decided to head back and go to our accommodation to unpack the car unsettling for the evening ready for an early start on Bempton cliffs in the morning.
6:30 AM we were out the door and heading towards bempton cliffs looking for puffins Gannett's, fulmars, kittiwakes, guillemots, and many more other sea birds to video and photograph today.
We walked up and down Benton cliffs for several hours covering a good few miles but still, we did not see any puffin's however we got some wonderful photos and videos of the birds in the area.
In the evening we headed out into the countryside to photograph some barn owls standing on the edge of a field, we were treated to a ball now flying over our heads and hunting in the field which managed to catch a mouse or vole three times within around 15 minutes each time taking its prey back to the nest obviously for its young.
Sunday morning and the fog rolled in meaning that a trip to Bempton cliffs early in the morning was out of the question so he decided to head out to Tophill low nature reserve run by Yorkshire Water.
A lovely small reserve with plenty going on from kingfishers to marsh frogs herons and Marsh Harris there was plenty to photograph and see at this reserve today.
Later in the afternoon, we met a couple that had just returned from Bempton cliffs telling us that the fog had cleared and it was now sunny so he decided to jump in the car and head back for an evening at Bempton cliffs before heading home tomorrow and one last chance to try and find and photograph the puffins.
All in all a fantastic three days of bird photography on the Yorkshire East Coast photographing some of Yorkshire's finest wildlife on the sea cliffs.

Thanks Ashley, just brilliant photography and film of birds again! I’m glad that you put the name of the birds on, as although I’ve been interested in birds for more than 50 years, I still can’t name them all! I also haven’t had much opportunity to do what you do what with boring work and bringing up children but at least now in my 60s I’m getting a bit more time. So thanks for the encouragement 😊

Ahh thanks, Margeret, yeh I am not good with the bird names either, it's a whole new genre of photography for me, I am used to doing weddings and portraits for the last 12 years but loving the wildlife stuff now as well, a big learning curve lol, glad your out about and enjoying your photography 😀👍

@@WildlifePhotographerUK Thanks for your reply Ashley, all I manage to take is scenery with my iPhone and I’ve just bought a new pair of binoculars which I can’t get used to!!😂 watching you and seeing seeing other people out bird watching has made me realise it would be so much easier if I just got myself a decent camera with a good lens on it. At least then I could see the birds properly and take photos! Once again, thanks for the pleasure you bring with the beautiful birds wildlife and flowers just lovely! Especially when I don’t always get chance to get out and about myself.

Great vlog, thanks for sharing your experience. I live just 15 mins from Tophill Low it was good to see you there (I am surprised you didn't see the Kingfishers) they are very active at the moment. I go to Bempton a couple of times a month and love it. Thanks again for the video and great images.

Another great video Ashley. Hopefully, if the bird flu subsides, you should get across to Seahouses in Northumbria and join a boat trip around the Farne Islands. Unbelievable sight……..

Yeh I was looking at doing that perhaps, will have to see how the bird flu, goes. hopefully, it will clear up soon but it is pretty rife everywhere.

Love Video, I was in the same area from the Monday, love Bempton cliffs. Had photographed puffins at Thornwick bay last year. Like you didn’t see any, in both place. But on review of some of my there was few here and there at Thornwick Bay. Also love the Red Kite Video.

Fantastic Vlog as alway, I’m heading that way in a couple of weeks for a few day and was wandering if you would tell me where about do you shoot the barn owls and the seals, that would be a great bonus, the reserve looked a great option for a foggy day.

If sir want's to see Puffins then head over to Inner Farne near Seahouses in Northumberland. There are roughly 80,000 of them, and that is no exaggeration. A few ran over my other half's feet on their way to where they needed to be. Sadly, with Bird Flu, we were only allowed an hour on the island. As you can guess I was running around like a loonie trying to film everything in a short space of time.
It wasn't pleasant walking along the shore below the castle passing dead Gannets. Hopefully this year will be better for the wildlife.
