Køge City, Denmark by

pronunciation: [ˈkʰøː(j)ə]) is a municipality (Danish, kommune) in Region Sjælland on the east coast of the island of Zealand (Sjælland) approx. 40 km southwest of Copenhagen. The municipality covers an area of 255 km² (98 sq. miles), and has a total population of 60,675 (2019). Until January 2007, its mayor was Torben Hansen, a member of the Social Democrats (Socialdemokraterne) political party, who died while still in office. He was replaced by Marie Stærke, who at age 27 was Denmark's youngest mayor at that time.

I was born and raised about 10 miles indland from Koege. I worked there for 2 years in the early sixties. I have lived in the US for many years, in the San Francisco Bay Area, before moving here I lived in New York City, New Orleans, Milwaukee and Westport Ct. I have travelled widely in Europe. lived In Israel and Iceland. Koege remains one of my very favorite places in the world, along with Westport Ct. Both fairly small towns, both safe close to the beach and in both town I had plenty of friends, some for life, and dates.
