I have found another way to do this without the issue of creating the black border, this happens because you exported in jpeg format, but if you export in .exr format the expected image will have the extra slack rendered at the final resolution considering the bounding box, the result will consider stretched pixel, that will avoid the issue of having the reformat node to add the black border. In a nutshell, just export in exr format instead of jpeg and the issue will be fixed inside of Maya and when you come back to nuke and apply the redistort node. This took a while to figure it out but now this makes everything easier. Hope this helps!

This was great and super useful to anyone trying to do a vfx group project as I know the whole lens distortion workflow causes so many headaches especially for students. Keep 'em coming :D

    Good morning
at the end of the script you multiply the result in % by the original aperturer
it would be more logical to divide ?
because if we take an "x" for example if I increase one side the other side is reduced
if I enlarge the image taking the example of the "X" the sensor must shrink
    Is that logical, right?
    THANKS

great stuff, btw, do you think you could look intro keentools geo and face tracker tools? they have a free demo to use. would be great to see some deep tutorial on this stuff as nobody really covers it, though it's a industry standard tool and almost every studio uses it.

Hey Matt have you checked out Mocha pro in nuke? looks pretty powerful and easy to use.

Ross Daniel Yes I’ve used it extensively in the past. Just one more tutorial I’ll some day get too. I’m kind of selfish in my Tutorials, I like demoing new and exciting (for me) stuff.

What if your client doesn't give you lens grid? How do you figure out distortion?

jaqvigga1 using the line tools with known straight lines in your scene, you can also analyze the shot if it is moving to establish bow ed distortion.
