This is one of my favorite songs. I used to play it in the road trips my best friend and I used to do every summer. In november 2014, he committed suicide. I asked this song to be played during his funeral. I know the times this song was played while we drive were his favorites. Rest in peace buddy. You're finally safe and at ease.
Lucas Ribeiro Thanks! I'm not usually the kind of person that posts personal stuff in youtube, but I thought that sharing this bit about him is some way of honoring him and keeping his memory alive.
The same thing just happened to me. So many good times with my best friend listening to this song driving around and having a good time. It will always bring back great memories.
After listening INTENTLY to Radiohead for 3 years, I think I've finally decided Reckoner is my favorite song from Radiohead and subsequently, quite possibly my favorite song of all time so far.
Loflie Nude, Paranoid Android, How to Disappear, House of Cards, Karma Police, Everything In Its Right Place, The Tourist, Weird Fishes/Arpeggi, Seperator, There There. If you find yourself falling in love with Radiohead do not hesitate to listen to every single one of their albums (except maybe Pablo Honey, you can skip that one lol) from beginning to end!
Aw man the bass guitar at the end makes me feel like the song isnt ending just going somewhere else for someone else to experience it. I've always loved it.
One thing about most Radiohead songs is that you've got to let them grow on you. It's usually very rewarding when you do (or at least when I do), they almost always sound better the second or even fourth time.
Yes, exactly. And it's not like I have to force myself to give it another listen either, it usually just happens even if I hated it on the first listen. Weird indeed. So glad I found this band.
+B!ack. It's funny. While I'm not a huge Radiohead listener, I'm starting to open myself up to them, and it usually is like you said. You gotta let them grow on you a bit. But this song hit me hard and fast from the beginning. It's absolutely outstanding.
+Roy's Hot Chili Peppers I could tell by your name you're an RHCP fan. RHCP (especially John Frusciante) were my first love but Radiohead is now my favorite band of all time, and this song is one of my favorites ever. It didn't blow me away at first, but it grew on me to the point where I'm spiritually connected to it in a way, all of In Rainbows is excellent and what makes Radiohead so great is that all of their albums are different. Also, Thom stated in an interview a few years back that that guitar on this specific song was basically an 'homage' to John Frusciante after seeing him play live, which made me love it even more
Radiohead has already made four of the greatest albums of all time; The Bends, Ok Computer, Kid A, and In Rainbows. If their upcoming ninth album is up to the same standard it'll be magical.
4:02 is still my all time favorite part of any song I've ever listened to. Not exaggerating. The change in tone nearly brings tears to me eyes every single time, then the strings kick in with that percussion. About as close as one can get to musical perfection.
until the new album comes out... and we'll see that song arrive... i like so much this song but Radiohead has so much to have only one as a favorite...
This song was inspired by John Frusciante, and even though Thom never mentioned which song it was influenced by, I'm pretty sure it's from "murderers". The riff sounds so much like it
+Alejandro Mendoza Thats what Radiohead are for, making you're emotions just simply crawl out of you- however their music is just so beautiful, its totally worth it :p
+Bedir Bozkurt Not life, just some fucked up dumbassess. Don't let those sordid cesspit rats take you down. Just don't.. They can't, and they never will.

Yet I love the emotion it lets me feel, it makes me feel alive and I love things that take you out of reality for a bit and this song definitely does so! One of my most favourite songs ever!

Wow, most good 90s bands have either gotten disbanded and or lost their edge over the years, but Radiohead seems to still be doing fine and still making great music...and they still give hope for me that music will get better someday, and that someday a decade will come out that is better for pop music in general than the 90s.

Being from the south in the U.S., I can't help but notice some southern soul and harmony in this song. It's beautiful and a gem coming from Radiohead. My favorite Radiohead song, and that really says something because their evolution in music has given us plenty to love.
So glad to see this video back up. Although I could listen to this song elsewhere in higher quality, there are just too many memories with this particular video.
at this point i can *not* listen to this song without listening to CodeX first... they are the Alpha and Omega, side to each other's coin... (drain yourself of all you know of religion right now) CodeX is the Baptism (beginning), Reckoner is the Reconciliation (end) i do not use those terms in the same way of 'religion' but they have great meaning/metaphor to me. i have no idea how to make these videos... if *someone* could/would make one with CodeX drifting into Reckoner... ummmm well i would be beyond grateful... and probably also squirrel dance with joy...
InfiniteSpiral112358 with a name like infinite spiral- you would know that your dna and the universe is an infinite fractal of each other- so the question is how could I not listen
Matthew G Jacob's Ladder is a Golden Spiral (112358,13,21) like DNA...Fibonacci... the *Lateral* slats allowing movement that can break the infinite *circle* and therefore allow the possibility of breaking an infinite *cycle*... Spiral *OUT*... not just up or down vertically.... do you see?? this is the way out of infinite cycles and into infinite movement in any and all directions... that brings freedom... Radiohead know this... CodeX, or Code/10: 'The number ten is regarded as the most perfect of numbers, because it contains the Unit that did it all (the 1 the singularity), and the zero, (the symbol of the matter and the Chaos), of which all came out; it then includes in its figure the created and the non-created, the beginning and the end, the power and the force, the life and the nothing.' Reckoner is the 7th song on 'In Rainbows': 'A rainbow has seven colors, and symbolizes mythically the completion of the flood/purge. And the promise that it is complete. A divine number, it also represents the mythical 7 days of creation and it's completion/perfection on the 7th day. The seven indicates the senses of a change after an accomplished cycle and of a positive renewal.' i know, i have my head up my ass right? well you wouldnt be the first to say it nor the last... this is something i see. i do not expect everyone to see it that way, and know i could be in err. i understand it is my perception/feelings of how these songs are linked. thank you for the taking the time though. and the kind words.
at one time in my life the option of suicide was beginning to become very real. this song flows down into the emptiest places in a persons soul and gives something very valuable.
I once heard a professional drummer say, its not how complex it is, its about how accurate it is.... I take this song as a perfect example. DAMN Philip ! such sexy rhythms.

That creeping insidious bass line from 3:35... The descending Esus4, Dsus2, Am/C offset by ascending vocals from 4:02... And then ultimately... the cymbal crash rhythm and deep strings from 4:20... Amazing piece of music.
This is one of my favorite songs. I used to play it in the road trips my best friend and I used to do every summer. In november 2014, he committed suicide. I'm trying to get a little bit more into this band, can you suggest me some songs? I actually only know reckoner and creep
Loflie Nude, Paranoid Android, How to Disappear, House of Cards, Karma Police, Everything In Its Right Place, The Tourist, Weird Fishes/Arpeggi, Seperator, There There.

Loflie also try Jigsaw Falling into Place and Fake Plastic Trees
His voice sounds like melting butter inside my brain. It is so soft, like it has no texture, it just blends in with everything surrounding it.
You're high
Miranda Carter Actually, i wasn't at that moment :)
It's definitely soothing. Very angelic.
its that British singing voice

Radiohead, they don't make any songs. They pack feelings, emotions and the most beautiful parts of the universe into this masterpieces.
Best way I’ve heard it explained
Radio head sucks
@@MrJasonfromcanada You’re extremely wrong.
This is arguably the greatest comment in Radiohead UA-cam history
You don’t just listen to this song. You have a spiritual experience.
It feels like taking a high dose mushroom trip to me. Which is like a spiritual experience. I just cannot believe this song is for real.
One thing about most Radiohead songs is that you've got to let them grow on you. It's usually very rewarding when you do (or at least when I do), they almost always sound better the second or even fourth time.

Radiohead is so good to listen with headphones on .
I really focus on the beautiful sounds they play .
The drums are truly from another world on this one.
It is only some simple syncopation on the ride and snare... It sure is great though! :D
Nah, technicality-wise it's not much but it sounds killer.
metallicarocks911 jajajaja, just some waveforms unfolding in time&space
That pattern is bad ass. I fucking love it. "Yeah but it's only simple" or whatever. Pointing that out is fucking LAME.
Phil Selway must be a simpleton :o He should add some roto toms
Radiohead has already made four of the greatest albums of all time; The Bends, Ok Computer, Kid A, and In Rainbows. If their upcoming ninth album is up to the same standard it'll be magical.
ChernovFan100 King of the limbs - From the basement (completely different album from the original one IMO) in the fifth
ChernovFan100 what's wrong about Hail to the thief and Amnesiac ????

at this point i can *not* listen to this song without listening to CodeX first... they are the Alpha and Omega, side to each other's coin...

CodeX, or Code/10: 'The number ten is regarded as the most perfect of numbers, because it contains the Unit that did it all (the 1 the singularity), and the zero, (the symbol of the matter and the Chaos), of which all came out; it then includes in its figure the created and the non-created, the beginning and the end, the power and the force, the life and the nothing.'
Reckoner is the 7th song on 'In Rainbows': 'A rainbow has seven colors, and symbolizes mythically the completion of the flood/purge. And the promise that it is complete. A divine number, it also represents the mythical 7 days of creation and it's completion/perfection on the 7th day. The seven indicates the senses of a change after an accomplished cycle and of a positive renewal.'
i know, i have my head up my ass right? well you wouldnt be the first to say it nor the last... this is something i see. i do not expect everyone to see it that way, and know i could be in err. i understand it is my perception/feelings of how these songs are linked.
thank you for the taking the time though. and the kind words.
I know its easy to exaggerate, but this is unequivocally my favourite song in this entire universe, its just so very perfect.
RADIOHEAD IS THE BOMB DIGGITY~!! ;)
at one time in my life the option of suicide was beginning to become very real. this song flows down into the emptiest places in a persons soul and gives something very valuable.

Welcome to paradise.....
I never liked In Rainbows, but this song a sparkling gem in the mud
It's taken from, Noir Désir - Le Vent Nous Portera?
:)
MsSimon789 sì suona come John Frusciante (:
They should just make Radiohead a religion already... 🙌
I really wish this song was longer. The ending starts to get really good!
