- So Mitchell and Ness just released a new set of "vintage" jerseys that I have a few opinions about and why I truly worry about who takes over the jersey manufacturing after Adidas is done.

Mitchell & Ness used to produce authentic vintage jerseys years back before they lost the rights and well before they were bought out by Fanatics. Those things were well made. I have the 94 Messier & 93 Gretzky. Both are pure quality

Mitchell And Ness quality has fallen off bad. I purchased a Larry bird authentic last year and the color was off the cut wasn't right and instead of using nylon which is what the Celtics jerseys were made off back then they used polyester

I feel your pain. You are absolutely right. None of the newer NFL jerseys are worth the money they are charging. Doesn't matter if it's Nike or Mitchell & Ness. The quality has gone downhill. It's the greed of capitalism. Quality has slowly been diminishing over the years. They figure they can lower their costs while increasing prices and people will just keep buying because they want to rep their team or their favorite player. I've stopped buying newer stuff for the most part. I did buy a recent Mitchell & Ness Ravens jersey only because it went on sale and since it should have never been sold in the first place due to a legal dispute over the old Ravens logo that prohibits anything with the original bird wings from being manufactured. I thought it was funny that M&N didn't look into this or get stopped before they went into production. But they did release them. So I grabbed one just to have a unique piece in my Ravens jersey collection. But the quality isn't great. Not for $160. I paid $110 just because I know these won't be in stock again and also because it is hard to find Jonathan Ogden jerseys in general. It is a nice reference point because I have an original jersey from that era and it is nice, yet sad to be able to compare the original and a reproduction side by side. The differences are staggering. Old ones are so much better. Even the jerseys worn on the field by the players are much lower quality than before. I have a game-worn jersey from the 90s and I have seen the new game-worn jerseys up close. The old ones are way better all around. More durable material. There is a lot more detail as well. I notice that on the new jerseys, sometimes certain details are literally peeling away by the time the players get to the post-game press conference. Particularly the Nike signs on the shoulders. I never saw that happen before the last few seasons and I have been watching football for a very long time.
Larry, I’m not sure how old these shirts are in the pull over sweatshirts and stuff but CCM has apparel that is available on the NHL shop.. I hope I’m smelling a come back?

i think they should let the teams pick their own manufacturer. if one team likes the adidas, they get adidas. if another team likes ccm, then they get ccm. just give them certain specs to keep them official to the nhl, but the rest is up to the team. there needs to be more competition, not less.

Thanks Larry I totally agree with you. I don't collect M&N hockey jerseys, but I do collect baseball and I am seeing the wrong material used in vintage jerseys and I am like you, I will not buy them! Thanks for your great work, keep it up!

CCM with their replica AHL jerseys has one layer vinyl shoulder patches.
Honestly I hate to say it but I kinda want Nike to take over.
An underdog I think would be really cool to see is UnderArmour and would love to see them get it.

I feel your pain as I am a passionate collector of baseball jerseys and caps. I’ve seen the same thing happen in that market. The bad news is Fanatics isn’t going anywhere anytime soon. You’re best bet is to start searching the second hand market place for actual vintage jerseys but you’ll be paying top dollar for them as more and more people find out just how crappy these new vintage throwbacks are.
I am just like you, I collect only baseball and I will pay more for a well made jersey. Fanatics is just making cheap crap.
I totally agree with you i think the 90's CCM jerseys cost more to make because of material and labor costing more now. I ONLY buy CCM blanks then send them to the wellsfargo center for numbers and names. GO Flyers!!!

I love that whalers one and honestly when the canes came out with the green whalers throwback I thought it was awesome but I also wish they'd have done that blue version too
@@LHOH197 I think they chose the green scheme because of course its widely known in the hockey world and also because the Whaler green jersey generates money to this point in time.
I still have a few from about 2005, around the time that I think that M&N discontinued hockey jerseys. The ones that I have are of excellent quality. Only thing is that I am not a hockey fan. But I am a New Englander and all I wanted was the Bruins jersey. I could never find it in my size.
That's why I always loved the CCM jerseys the quality was amazing the logos were nice they were just amazing and now these fanatics branded crap is just that crap
I've bought a dozen of the BB jerseys from M&N. The pics on their site suck. They dont true represent what you are getting. In reality the BB jerseys are high quality. The colors, logos, etc have been spot on. Yes their jock tag at the bottom of the jersey does suck but as far as the BB jerseys go you can hardly see it w/the way your arm hangs down. Yes the reg prices are too high but once a month they will have a 25-40% off (just about everything) sale. I did receive one jersey that had a large crease on the logo. I sent them pics & they gave me a refund w/no hassle & no cost to me. Your hard work is greatly appreciated!!!
The sales always have exclusions.
A couple months ago they had a 40% off every thing except new items. Like all sites (Nike, Under Armour, etc) you just have to check the site on a regular basis.

If CCM comes back, the jerseys are most likely to be like the AHL and CHL jerseys, not the CCM jerseys from the 90s.
Whoever takes over, all replica jerseys will still be Fanatics until 2034
This means that we will not see NHL versions of the AHL replicas.
As long as the logos are still fully embroidered and don't have this one layer vinyl junk
Good news. AHL replica jerseys cost $130 and logos are embroidered, although shoulder patches have this papery feel.
Bad news. Like I said, Fanatics has the rights to replica jerseys until 2034
I haven't seen CCM have a jersey that is in between the gamer and the replica, so if CCM, your option may be the $300 gamer or the Fanatics replica with no mid tier jersey option.
CCM might come up with a new jersey design if they make NHL jerseys again, but the best comparison would be AHL jerseys, although you can't compare their replicas because Fanatics still has the rights. AHL replicas are what you are going to get if CCM made replica jerseys.
That would be disappointing. I like the '90s a lot more than the AHL and CHL jerseys.

These things or atrocious. It’s such an insult to the people who have an undying passion and love for hockey jerseys. I know that the average consumer or fan who buys hockey jerseys most I would say don’t care about all the small details; the quality of the logo, the material, the stitching, the embroidery, all the stuff that we pay attention to. Those are the majority of the people they just don’t have that passion, and Fanatics caters to the crowd to those consumers. I had a feeling Mitchell and Ness would make jerseys. That was my first guess was Mitchell and Ness. This horrific attempt at making vintage jerseys may be a test run to see how many people are interested in buying hockey jerseys with the Mitchell and Ness namebrand. I don’t care about the namebrand what I care about is what you care about and what a lot of us care about but I just think we’re like a small community. We want good quality jerseys. The best thing about the Adidas jerseys are the comfort I don’t like the sizing, the fit that much & how easy they snag. The logos especially the primegreen logos and the collars, I just love them. When Reebok took over, they got worse as the years went on and honestly, I’ve never bought any Home or away jerseys from teams other than my favorite team the Penguins and I hardly ever wore them. The only other Reebok jerseys I’ve bought were 3rd jerseys & the outdoor games only because those jerseys would be in a limited quantity. They would get harder to find over time. It’s crazy to me how cheap these things are and the Jack the price of the 200 because they’re calling them “vintage” & some of the jerseys were made not too long ago. Something tells me they’re not gonna sell very many of them and what a waste of money how can you be so out of touch with hockey fans and how passionate we are about jerseys but then again like I said, they just cater to the the average consumer, who just doesn’t pay attention to all the details that goes into the quality of a jersey.
CCM / Koho are the best , I personally think the NIKE and ProPlayer jerseys were just as good, Starter had its issues sometimes with the logos bubbling but I like the material. the mid late 90s jersey were cool as they looked almost authentic with the Conference Logo or Team Logo as the equivalent for the NHL logo. adidas is very good, the Rbk premiers were okay, I hated the sticker patch on the shoulders - first time I had one of those, I thought it was a fake 😅😅 I only have one Fanatics, the ANA 25th anniversary, just to compare them......oh boy they are soooooo bad

Fantastics are trash, I've had the wrong tops delivered and the customer service.... Worst I've ever come across (I'm in the UK) I had to open a dispute as they were messing me around so much. Real shame they've got the contract. Hopefully they get a hell of a lot better very quickly
hey Larry been a while since I last commented, I agree with you on the M&N so called Jerseys they look fake to say the least. I agree that CCM should get the contract for the new jerseys when Adidas' contract runs out no issue there.
But please before anyone in the comments down below have a pop at me about the Fanatics jerseys, I have to say they are just replicas and yes they're not the best but with someone with Autism (myself) I like them. I agree the logo's, fabric and technical stuff could/should be improved but they are the closest thing I personally can get to owning anything NHL/Ducks related for a reasonable cost until hopefully CCM take over :) anyway good hockey everyone :)

I only own one CCM and it is the nicest jersey I own, but I have many fanatics hockey jerseys and I honestly don’t understand the hate they get especially what you can get them for on sale. I used to only buy authentic but I’ve had 3 adidas authentic Ovechkin jersey in a 2 year span and the quality sucked the captains C basically started to come off after about 4 wears then the next one I got the numbers started to get black specks where the numbers were already fading and I felt they were just uncomfortable. I was a caps game and started looking at the fanatics jersey and decided to buy a tom wilson one and I’ve loved them ever since and probably have close to 10 fanatics ones. Now I think the Reebok jersey were also much better than the adidas and yes I know Adidas owns Reebok but I have a Patrick Kane 2010 Stanley cup jersey made by Reebok I’ve been wearing for 13 years and still looks brand new. I just think the quality of the adidas ones are not good. Now I do understand if you are a jersey collector you want to get the closes thing to the player wears so yeah fanatics wouldn’t be your thing. I personally hope when adidas leaves that Nike or fanatics doesn’t take over I just hope it’s someone who will make nice quality jerseys and not charge a fortune for them.
The Nike jerseys weren't too bad, but definitely nowhere near as rugged as CCM. They build jerseys like tanks!
In fact, I'm 40, and still have my first Mighty Ducks jersey, that I got for Christmas, in '93. I used to wear it all the time, especially when my friends and I would play street-hockey, and other than a little yellowing, a few small pulls, and a hole in the armpit, where the stiching came loose, it still looks pretty good, for being 30 years old.
Because you bought the ones with crappy vinyl numbers and letters. Had you got it customized by the team supplier or someone like Hockey Authentic that use good twill, the numbers and name wouldn't be falling apart after 4 washes.
I have 7 pro/2 Licenced-replica Mighty Ducks jerseys.
7 of them are CCM (3 early-late '90s, and 2 early-'00s).
1 is Adidas (2018-19 25th Anniversary/Silver Season), and one D-5 Movie jersey, that I got from the Anaheim Team Store (not sure who makes them?).
The Adidas is by far the worst. There are numerous missing stitches, and the quality of the material (Climalite) is trash.
I would never waste my money on any fake, replica, or any of the so-called "classic" jerseys. And, not bc I'm being snobbish, but bc they really aren't worth the $$$$.

There's no embroidery on the logos they are 1 layer screen printed vinyl they make the jerseys look cheap and closer to knockoffs than actual throwback jerseys

Yeah IDK anymore all jerseys are going to turn into fanatic jerseys and the quality will be nothing more than a vinyl pressed teeshirt in where a normal built person (a normal L lets say) will need to go up like 3 sizes and spend like $200+ for something that so damn bad. Hell as sad as it is it's almost not worth fighting it anymore and get to a point where we just got to stop buying them.
Ya that might be what has to happen is if they aren't getting our money and get lots of complaints about these garbage jerseys they might be forced to change some things up but that will fall on us as customers to force that by not giving them our money
Mitchell and Ness is so wrong for this price point. they would be making massive markup at 40 dollars. it's a total rip-off. heat transfer is fine if you are small potatotes, but you still can't gouge your customers. no one should be charging the same as an actual pro-stitch jersey for heat transfer.
Just don't buy from Fanatics.
Fanatics signed a 10yr deal with NHL so don't expect them to leave anytime soon.

Fanatics is the worst thing that's happened to pro sports apparel. The cost to quality separation just keeps getting wider.
I recently bought the 1996 pens lemiuex jersey from Mitchell and Ness. And honestly, it's not all bad. The emblem in the front could be better, but it's not all bad. It reminds me of the early reebok jerseys. I have a crosby black 2009 versio, and it's similar with the numbers, but the chest emblem is the legit patch. The 200 price tag is a bit much for what they offer. i agree on that. But if you're looking for a jersey from back in the day, it's not all bad for at least half the price because a good retro will run you 400 to 500 in cash. All in all, i give them an 8 out of 10.

Fanatics is ruining everything about sports fans' gear. And they are buying everything. They bought M&N, New Era, Majestic, Topps and they also own many online competitors. They have saturated the matket with low quality, cheap, overpriced fan gear. And everyone in the industry knows it. They only care about the bottom line. Major owners of many of the companies mentioned sold everything except rights to produce on field/ice gear the pros use. They knew this would happen and refused to let the league big wigs be let down. But they could care less about fans. Its pretty shitty for the people that make it all possible... THE FANS!
I just went and looked because you plucked my strings of curiosity... and my god... I HATE that they're doing this to classics. Seeing the incredibly awesome Lemieux gradient robo pens jersey done dirty like this for $200... Their pictures on the site SUCK and you can still see that the logo is some wavy vinyl 1 layer crap. I need to see real pictures of these but from what I'm seeing... I am beyond disappointed. Beyond jerseys Mitchell and Ness have really cool hat designs for NHL but they're such an awful shape. They look like rectangles on top of your head... Fanatics needs to go... They're plaguing everything about sportswear... I'm rooting for CCM man.
Update: I was curious about sizing and went to check the sizing chart for these disasterpieces and they don't even have sizing yet... they take you to the nba jersey size chart. What a god damn joke this is...
This is why I'm concerned about who takes over next I mean this is just pathetic I mean one would think that if the jerseys could be made so well back in the 90s and 2000s they'd be fantastic now but ever since they went away from CCM everything went downhill and the Adidas prime greens are about as close to the CCM quality than any other in the way the logos especially are made with full embroidery just horrible what this damn fanatics company is doing they are just destroying our jerseys

Even the Mitchell and Ness NBA and NFL jerseys are bad lately. Inaccurate colors, logos that are way too big, crappy quality material.

@@LHOH197 Agreed. And it's sad too. I do own 1 Mitchell and Ness jersey and it's a Joe Carter Toronto Blue Jay's 1998 batting practice jersey, keep in mind this was before the fanatics acquisition. The quality of this baseball jersey was phenomenal and the logo felt very authentic as it was embroidered. Got it for 50 bucks on ebay.

To be fair, these are not made for the hard core hockey collectors. It's a cheaper alternative for those to get classic jersey styles...they are not made to be to scale of the original CCM/Starter/Koho/Pro Player and others. M&N did make authentic hockey jerseys for a time and may bring those back into the catalogue, but with Fanatics owning them, they are putting out Breakaway-like sets to start. I've been collecting jerseys for years and am in various communities for it. I think people want what was made in the past, however even if they were made today, there would be differences...nothing is made as it once was. Plus, the prices would go up and then people would complain about the price lol I'd imagine Nike will take over NHL jerseys next season with them already making MLB, NFL and NBA. Again, these are a cheaper alternative for those just wanting to grab and wear a hockey jersey. Only the hard core collectors like us know to look on eBay and such to find the vintage ones.
Only problem is Neil these are the same price as Fanatics jerseys if not more expensive and they LOOK like the same quality as well. Now my opinion might change if I see one in hand here but they look and have the same feel as fanatic jerseys for a more expensive price.
@@jakez199456 Fanatics Breakaway line, which is what these appear to be based off of retail for $175 ($204 customed) from what I see. I'm guessing the extra cost for these is for the M&N brand. I wouldn't charge these for $200, but unfortunately this is not our call. As we know, being under the Fanatics umbrella, M&N shall have many sales and these can be had for much cheaper down the road. Not seeing these in hand is also tough when it comes to going over the quality of these...as we know, stock photos are never a great point of reference for jerseys.
I get wanting to bring in non hard-core fans but junk products aren't gonna do it in my opinion the CCM koho ones were always great because they were eye catching and the logos popped so people would look at them and say oh now that looks nice and wanna buy them to me that's the whole point of them none of these are gonna pop out at people saying oh buy me especially with those cheap vinyl logos
The problem is these aren't a cheaper alternative. They are more expensive than an Adidas authentic that are 100 X the quality.
