When Sabine Wren gets her Force powers in the Ahsoka series, it raised a lot of questions about why she was so powerful all of the sudden?
"Massive force pushes, deflecting blaster bolts..."
"Do you even need to train to be a Jedi anymore?"
In this video we go in depth on why Sabine being instantly being good after getting her force powers doesn't make sense and why it makes being a Jedi less special. Now stop reading the description and watch the video so you can tell me what you think when you're done!

Apparently male characters have to spend years and years to become skilled with the force, Anakin was literally the chosen one and after a decade of training he still lost to Dooku, Ezra wasnt very skilled at telekinesis at all in season 1, struggling to lift up a crate. Wheras Sabine and Rey can just skip the years of training and just pull force abilities out of nowhere with no hard work. Sabine force pushing Ezra that far, whilst also being quite far away was just ridiculous.

The show just took the easy option at every turn with the plot:
How can sabine fight a dark jedi -> make her one herself
What was Ahsoka doing during OT -> dont bring it up
What was Ezra doing on peridea for a decade -> apparently nothing
How did Thrawn awaken the great mothers -> dont mention it
What is Shin's backstory -> never brings it up
Why wasnt Huyang destroyed after order 66 -> dont mention it
Is Baylans motives good or bad -> dont mention it
So many questions were brought up in the show that dont get answered and alot of the answers we did get were unsatisfying. The fact Ezra has been doing nothing on peridea really irritates me, especially as the second he leaves the whole mortis god plot starts there. He should have has a purpose there, possibly a reason to not leave. It would have been cool if he was perhaps guarding something, possibly being Abeloth's jailer. A cool plot i would have done was that the great mothers were stranded on peridea by the Mortis God's, cursed to guard Abeloth's prison. When Thrawn arrived on peridea, he had captured Ezra (Ezra isnt defeating thousands of troopers without a saber). He found the great mothers who sensed Ezra and made a deal with Thrawn were they could pass on their burden to Ezra (Ezra still has an unpaid debt to nightsisters aswell) and Thrawn would help them leave the peridea and use his Ship to transport the caskets. This would also be a great way to explain why Thrawn never went after Ezra aswell.

      Shin isn't a dark jedi
doesn't matter what ahsoka was doing during OT
Doesn't matter how Huyang survived Order 66
Shin's backstory is that Baylan trained her post-O66
Baylans motives are clearly gonna be explored further
Does it matter how Thrawn woke up the witches?
Ezra was living with the turtle people the whole time
all of these points are so irrelevant, if they showed all this the show would be the most BORINGGGG thing ever made. this is why fans don't write the stories.

Ezra just hanging out with crab people is stupid. He is a jedi, him going to peridea should have had more meaning behind it, a greater purpose than just defeating Thrawn. Ezra has even connected to the Mortis gods when he opened the WBWs, the fact he has no involvement in the plot about to happen on peridea doesn't make any sense considering he is the reason they are there in the first place.

People keep saying she has had a decade of training but it has been made clear that training was fruitless. Using the force for the first time (for a normal force sensitive) is a big deal and usually exhausting. When Ezra saved Zeb by pushing Kallus, Ezra was in shock having connected to the force for the first time, Hera had to get him back to the ghost as he was dazed, Ezra also struggled to use the force after that aswell, struggling to lift small items. To this day I'm still surprised to hear people saying that Kanan trained Sabine with the Force back in Rebels. All Kanan did was train her to fight with a lightsaber (there were like 7 forms of lightsaber combat, weren't there?). Remember, the Darksaber isn't just any lightsaber, somehow the mechanics of the blade was, "fight with it, not against it". At that time, Sabine's emotional baggage was her guilt when she betrayed her clan to join the Empire. On the Book of Boba Fett, Din's mind has always dwelled on Grogu since they separated. Even Paz Vizla, a muscular man, couldn't lift the darn blade above his waist when he challenged Mando. It's been based on the premise that you have to be mentally and psychologically prepared in order to wield the blade properly and with ease.
Sabine in the finale was like, block/deflect them blaster fire/force-grab her lightsaber/somehow push Ezra across a great height and distance/then somehow sense Anakin's force ghost? Watching the finale, all I could say was, "Disney just can't help themselves, can they?". She went from not being able to lift a cup, to somehow using the force like an experienced Jedi. Wouldn't her first force-push feel like bearing the entire weight of Ezra? Nah, she did it with ease because that how lazy their writing was. Her powers were rushed and unearned because it didn't have a build-up or backstory to begin with.
It would have been better to just establish Sabine to be a non-traditional Jedi, or maybe forget that, a warrior who had the skills to fight with a lightsaber without the ability to use the force. She's a Mandalorian, they literally have all the gadgets that they can use to defend (or at least fight against) a force-sensitive opponent.
Having the force as a convenient plot tool to move the story around makes me wonder about the characters who have been established to be a total badass without force sensitivity (Cad Bane, Jango Fett, Boba Fett). Sabine would have been a total badass too, but "the Force is Female" anyway so...

Couldnt agree more. Giving Sabine the force was just an easy way for Filoni to explain Sabine's ability to fight Shin, despite the fact she is a mandalorian who are known to create tech to combat jedi. Kannan defiantly wasnt suggesting Sabine could be a jedi, surely he would have trained her more if he thought she could. She was like a daughter to him, why would he not give her another way to protect herself if he thought she had potential?
Also the whole Luke door quote is stupid as Luke specifies it applys to people who can sense the force, which Sabine even said she couldnt and she didnt sense things in the force like Kannan's saber or holocron, nor could she feel a kyber crystal the size of a car, which Ezra described to be singing in the force.

Nah, this is way better. Filoni challenged the conservative mindset of people like you, who believe that one has to be born special to be powerful. Dave here wrote that one doesn’t need their birthright to dictate them. They can choose to train and grow to become powerful. Sabine awakening to the Force is proof that one doesn’t need to be Force sensitive to use the Force. It’s merely easier for them. Sabine spent the entire series believing that she couldn’t, but didn’t give her training. She kept trying. And when the moment came when she needed the Force, she finally unlocked her abilities.
Dave hinted Sabine to have the potential to be a Jedi not through Force sensitivity, but by how Sabine had the spirit of a Jedi throughout. And Ahsoka decided to train her, despite how Sabine didn’t have the talent.

Sabine is the opposite of Chirrut from Rogue One, and in the worst ways.
Chirrut was force sensitive, but not in the sense of the jedi. He understood that the force was everywhere, that it held weight within the galaxy, and the force willed what would happen. The force was not something he could manipulate, as he was not able to harness it, but he knew it was there, and allowed the force to guide him. There was no great reveal of him actually being a jedi, or that he wielded a lightsaber. He was just a blind man who let the force guide his actions and give him safety during moments of duress, such as his walk to the transmission control panel. He died still holding onto the force, even if he could not use it as a means of power.
Sabine was already handed a lightsaber in the past, and could wield one with some capability thanks to training within Rebels. However, her immediate connection to the force cheapens it. It makes it feel less like something that can be a guide, a means of power that has to be earned and be born with, and more like a tool. The force should not be something to grab onto and manipulate, but Sabine and many other Star Wars characters seem to do this. The force is less about faith to her and more of a new piece to her arsenal, which is a shame. She did not spend her life devoted to the machinations of the force, no train to harness her powers. It was merely handed over to her because it would be cinematic. The force has no 'will' in Ahsoka, because it is just a means of control.
Chirrut was such an interesting character to watch, because it showed that the force was truly everywhere, and not just where it was needed in order to push or pull things. A guiding hand. It was an ethereal energy. With Sabine though, it feels hollow and unearned.

We do know that Ahsoka trained Sabine for a while. Sabine was shown to have had a bunk on Ahsoka's Jedi Shuttle with lots of graffiti/drawings on her bunk.
Rebels ended at about 0 BBY and the Ahsoka show was about 5 years after Return of the Jedi. Between Return of the Jedi and A New Hope there is 4 years. It took Luke four years.
The time gap between Rebels and Ahsoka was 9 to 10 years. The Ahsoka series takes place at about 9 ABY. Ezra and Thrawn were missing somewhere between 9 to 10 years (0 BBY to 9 ABY is ten years but could be 9 something depending on the month).
From what I can gather Ahsoka picked up Sabine most likely sometime after they liberated Lothal around 0 BBY. Sometime after the Purge of Mandalore in 4 to 5 ABY Ahsoka is for sure training Sabine. It is implied Sabine's training was taking place during the purge. Sometime after the purge Sabine and Ahsoka had a falling out.
Ahsoka could have been training Sabine for a few months or five plus years. Sabine for sure had years after Ahsoka stopped training her to keep training on her own.
The dialogue and storytelling of Ahsoka was just horrible. It's hard to know anything for sure.

If they were going to go with Sabine being Force-sensitive, they should've made it more interesting and have her accidentally use the Dark Side. She's carrying a lot of emotional baggage with her parents' death and Ahsoka abandoning her, she doesn't have the emotionless discipline and stoicism of a Jedi, so why not show her using the Dark Side? Like say, have Shin and Baylan attack Sabine and Ezra, but before Baylan can kill Ezra, Sabine's fear of losing Ezra manifests into hate, and what was meant as a Force push to keep Baylan away from Ezra turns into a Force Lightning blast that blows him away, showing us why Yoda warned people against fear and hate back in the day. Mandalorians embrace passion and aggression, things that power the Dark Side. Would it not be natural for Sabine to embrace the Dark Side, then? Or accidentally use it, even if it's for one time?

When I saw Sabine as one of the weakest force wielders I was actually thinking it be a wonderful idea, ESPECIALLY for a Mandelorian.
Here is someone who cannot just overpower their enemies with the force in some way. Here is someone who needs ingenuity, planning, knowledge of their opponents. Just imagine her fighting someone she knows will flaunt the force, so she tosses a bottle up at his face and he laughs as he holds out his hand to force-throw it back and that moment she uses to throw or shoot something else. Even it all it does is unbalance her opponent (say dodge/block juuust in time) it can give her the edge and keep them on the wrong foot.
And frankly thats what I want to see now. I want to see a Master who isn’t great who got the worst force sensitive they took on in years to train. I know too many people survive order 66 but most of them are at the heart of the conflict. These two could have been send to the edge of the conflict with a small contingent of clone troopers to some backwater of a backwater planet, where the apprentice is captured as his clones get mauled hard by the CIS as order 66 begins. Shortly afterwards all droids stop functioning and what living personnel they have sets the apprentice free as they say “the clones are killing all the Jedi too, fight with us”. And then yeah, clones try to shoot him on sight even when he asks them not to and eventually he finds the body of his master.
BAM. You have a far superior reason for them to survive, its a small contingent of clones that got its ass handed to it beforehand so the apprentice and remaining living CIS can actually get away from them. You then have a story to tell about the remnants of the CIS scrambling and failing to recover from the droid shut down, it was thousands of worlds that willingly supported it and must have had some capacity to build weapons and ships themselves. With a lost Jedi with little power who as time goes on finds himself hunted by people who could do more with the force in their sleep while the ground where he’s safe dwindles from “any planet aligned with the CIS” to “lets hope they don’t look too hard at this village in the middle of nowhere while we set up the first resistance groups”.

Its lazy writing, Filoni picked the easiest option at every turn and barely explained anything. The show relied so much on offscreen events it felt like I had missed a whole season of rebels. One of the biggest problem the sequels had (other than Rey) was the changes they made to original characters like Luke (who went from a jedi master who would forgive Vader, to an old man who nearly killed his nephew in his sleep as he had a bad dream) and Han (went from redeemed smuggler and respected general, back to a smuggler and deadbeat dad). I have no clue why Filoni decided to do the exact same thing with Sabine
They should have kept Sabine as a normal Mandalorian who stands up to those with powers she does not posses, it would have been a greater testament to her bravery, skill and made her 100x more relatable. A normal human being in a conflict of force users and witches, trying to hold her own. It is also a far better message that you don't need to be special to be relevant in star wars, that anyone can stand up to the darkside, that Sabine was already enough as she was.
They also handled her relationship with Ahsoka awfully, why would we be invested in them repairing their friendship if we never saw them have one in the first place, in rebels Sabine didn't trust fulcrum and in season 2 she disliked the rift created by Ahsoka sending Kannan and Ezra on jedi missions without the rest of the crew.
It also completely takes away from her character and the importance of her friendship with Ezra. The two of them united two waring cultures in a way that had never been done before, Ezra and Sabine wouldn't hesitate to put their lives in the others hand, showing a trust between them no other jedi and mandalorian has had (Satine doesnt really count as she didnt follow mandalorian ideals and Ahsoka and Bo had a professional relationship). Now Sabine does that all by herself, quite poorly aswell as she will most likely start to fight less and less like a mandalorian overtime.
Sabine being a jedi also adds very little to the greater plot and makes alot of plot holes in Ahsoka and rebels. It has also completely torn the fans in half.
The whole story would have worked with Sabine being normal. It could have gone like:
Her and Ahsoka partner up during the OT as they both have a promise to Ezra and Ahsoka teaches Sabine how to wield his Saber like Dooku trained Grevious. When the purge of mandalore happened, sabine blamed herself as many mandalorians had the opinion that Bo Katan being gifted the darksaber cursed mandalore and it was Sabine who insisted she took it. Sabine either becomes obssessed with finding Ezra or protecting lothal (fearing it would suffer the same fate), no longer wearing her armour as she has failed her people. Ahsoka goes seperate ways from sabine as she believes she has a duty to the rest of the galaxy, not just Lothal or Ezra. Over the years Sabine fails to find Ezra and once Lothal is safe, she starts living a more civilian life like we saw her in episode 1. Then you can have pretty much the same story but instead of Sabine trying to use the force, we see her integrate more and more of her mandalorian fighting style into her lightsaber duels. I wouldnt even hate her keeping the Saber when she finds Ezra if she was skilled enough with it. Her whole arc could have been about becoming the warrior she once was, rediscovering herself. We could have even had scenes with Ahsoka reassuring Sabine that just because she doesnt have the force, doesnt make her weak or powerless (far better message in my opinion). Instead they are pushing the message that to be relevant in star wars and fight the darkside, you have to be a rare jedi.

Even if Ahsoka verbally explained how to use the force, without practice, Sabine shouldn't be able to pull off such a feat. Imagine you learnt all of the theory of driving a car but had never actually sat in one before, once you do get into a car for the first time, you would mostly likely struggle to find the right controls and stall many times, and you would certainly get flustered trying to remember who has right of way in a situation. Learning the theory and learning how to actually do something from experience are 2 very different things.

Any training in the force she had in the past failed to give her a connection. Any knowledge she has would still be really difficult to actually apply for the first time without proper practise. Knowledge and experience are different things. In the past, jedi have always been shown to slowly build up their strength through practise. Just because a youngling made a ball float doesnt mean they can force throw someone many metres the moment after. The only exception is when a jedi in training accidently uses the darkside which is often called a shortcut by jedi.

The problem with Sabine is not that she was able to use the force or push Ezra across to the Star destroyer, we wave seen babies in clone wars and rebels use the force to make objects levitate as well as the fact that the Jedi had an Agricultural regiment as well for padawan rejects who still had force abilities like push and pull but where deemed “not worthy” of becoming a knight’s padawan for X reason. The real issue is that Sabine ONLY used her force abilities instead of using them in tandem with her mandalorian gadgets as well as her mind as we know she is very smart from her days at the imperial academy. She isn’t like Rey at all. Force push and pull are the most basic of force abilities in the Star Wars universe. Her pulling her lightsaber was fine but her pushing Ezra to the SD should have been a quick push and not her using the force to actually hold him up to it.

There is a deeper reason and the meaning behind all this.. We should not forget that there must be a Mandalorian Jedi - because the Darksaber was destroyed and only a new Jedi can make it and become Mand'alor by blade. And only way to make a new Darksaber is knowledge by Huyang. Information about which crystal exactly goes into the Darksaber and how it is made. And it happens to be next to Sabine. I wouldn't be surprised if he has parts for it in his drawers. Sabine is next Mand'alor. Sabine was and it is the rightful owner of the Darksaber. Anyone who doesn't see what Dave Filoni cooking here - since the Rebels series until now - is blind. And the haters will hate this meal to the point of pain.

10:11 part of the power of Order 66 was that the Clones were trusted allies and personal friends of the Jedi, so even the masters were taken completely by surprise. Even Yoda, who we know had prior knowledge of the clone’s betrayal, was pretty close to having been overwhelmed himself. We also see in Tales of the Jedi, that many of the Jedi were used to only fighting the remotes or basic battle droids, and even a couple of Droidekas were enough to overwhelm a Jedi master and his very skilled and advanced apprentice in The Phantom Menace. We know that Sabine already had super fast reflexes and really amazing gymnastic/parkour/fighting abilities prior, it could be that her level of ability was _already_ enhanced by her latent Force sensitivity (in the same way that Han Solo is hinted at having “have a bad feeling about this” along with his gun fighting and piloting skills, among other things).

Hear me out: Ezra charged up Sabine with his force powers (hence him punching) in advance so she could be more effective at defending blaster fire with her lightsaber.
Like every other drug, it's way more powerful the first time you try it so she has a lot of power right right away and can force-push Ezra onto the ship.
But now she's depleted and has a massive force-hangover followed by force-withdrawals so Season 2 is all about her begging Ashoka for a little force fix.

Sabine as you said was such a cool character, she didn't need the force, she was special in her OWN WAY............what is next, HERA WILL ALSO BECOME A JEDI? please Disney stop doing this.....the more I think in this show the more lower it get my ratting.....I can't believe DAVE FILONI who normally is the one that grounded his characters the MOST, now is making mary sues left and right...........is like the overlord Kennedy demands more female strong characters and they just OBEY......I really wanted to love the show but man this lower my exciting for any continuation or that Filoni film.

I didn't totally mind the Sabin Force user. However, they should have had a flash back to her training with Kanan Jaris and him telling her she is "blocked." Have Hu Yang make a comment to Ahsoka that Mandalorian Jedi's are rare because they have a hard time letting go due to their training, culture, and devotion to their ways. Then have her Force retrieve her light saber in a desparate moment. Fine. At least then it makes sense that she finally let go. But the Force push is a bridge too far. Overall, I liked the series (7/10), but at the same time I was disappointed. A missed opportunity. A lot of the issue was just how Filoni told the story. For example, why not begin Episode 1 with a flash back to the end of Rebels and show the audience how Ezra's sacrifice at the Battle of Lothal through connecting with the Purgills, etc.? You have Sabine looking on and him giving her his lightsaber. At least the casual viewer now understands why they are searching for Ezra. Yes, it reveals Ezra immediately, but so what if it tells the story better.

The "power block" has been going on thrice in Disney Star Wars. Seen it in Jedi Fallen Order and the Obi-Wan show. But one thing you could credit the previous two is that, once the block is lifted, both Jedi return to their previous power levels. Here with Sabine, she somehow could shove Ezra dozens of yards across despite no evidence that she did achieve that level of power "pre-block".
No, I'm not going to do the writing for Filoni, nor treat speculation as evidence. That is for the other fools to do so.

It would’ve been better if we got one season showing her Jedi training(minus the drama. I think the tension between the two was really boring and unnecessary). She acted really mature & cool in Rebels but The writers turned her into a very arrogant immature teenager(Who doesn’t get scolded for her foolish decisions) in Ahsoka. One more thing I think the reunion with Ezra was so bland. I mean I expected some tears of joy or some thing(Plus I thought they were building up a romance between the two).

11:24 The reason I dont give Darth Maul flak for coming back is because Vader himself survived being burnt alive due to the dark side. Even with his internal organs failing, he can even survive outside his suit (without life suport) for long periods of time with nothing but the force keeping him "alive". To be honest, its less "staying alive" and more "refusing to die". When Vader had his mask removed at the end of RotJ, he seemed to have died when he gave up his grasp on the dark side, when he finally let go of his hate and anger he could no longer sustain himself and perished. He was essentially a walking corpse stitched together with nothing but hate and anger towards his fate. Maul's wounds while would be fatal to a normal person might be far more survivable than you think for him. He was cut at the hips, meaning the majority of his vital organs would be intact. We see no blood when cut or when hes falling so the wound was more than likely cauterized, we've also seen Jedi be able to fall great heights and live, and when he got down there, he was able to make himself a hodgepodge of legs to at least be able to move around. His wounds seem far less than Vader's in comparison, so i dont feel like its too far fetched to think he could have survived. Especially when a character like Sion existed in the extended lore, the embodiment of this phenomenon i like to call "Force Zomberism". They were a literal walking corpse who is so lost in the dark, they have no idea who they even were, what their goal even was, just that they needed to do what the dark drove them to do. They just could not die, and were a slave to the dark side for many years. The only way the Exile was able to beat him was to convince Sion there was no reason for them to go on, and once they let go, they collapsed to the ground, no longer animated by the ties that bound them. I like the idea in concept, but Disney has NO idea how to use it

Also in the Mandalorian S2, Ahsoka refused to train Grogu because he was attached to Din, but In Ahsoka, she has no problem training Sabine despite her clearly being attached to Ezra? So not only does it seem out of character for Ahsoka to train her, but it also seems out of character for Sabine to even want to be a Jedi. I think it would have been better if Sabine was cut on her leg, so she couldn't stand and not stabbed in the stomach, she could later use her grappling hook to grab the lightsaber instead of the force, cementing the idea that she doesn't need to be a Jedi, just the best version of herself, and when Ezra attempts the jump, she gives him, her vambrace with her grappling hook, so he can go home, while she stays behind with Ahsoka.

I agree with everything you said, I lost my mind when she force grab her saber. Then no one was talking about it in reviews. Hera and ezra shouldve hugged in the end.

in all fairness they do say ahsoka trained her off screen before, so maybe she learnt how to deflect the blaster bolts then. She probably knew how to use the force in theory, just not in practice.

With Sabine, I could accept that she got the light sabre, but the push of enra was too much.

While I completely agree with what you have to say in Disney once again making an OP character with no character arc, there is a real world example that explain what happens. This being the 4-minute mile. The 4 minute mile used to be seen as an impossible or at the very least extremely difficult standard to beat, however once the first person did it, suddenly everyone saw that it was possible, and now today, the 4 minute mile is seen as the standard to hit for professional middle distance running. Once one person did it and showed everyone it is possible, it removed that mental block in everyone else's heads.
The same thing happened with Sabine. She was closed off, however in the face of death and in her time off greatest need, she broke through her block and found herself to actually be able to use the force. Once she saw that she was actually cable of being able to use it, she was able to use her new found confidence to boost Ezra. (Again, I agree that her sudden proficiency with force is too fast)
That is at least my take. I am curious what others think.

The reason Ahsoka even trained her in the first place was probably because she could sense the Force Enhancing her.
In other words, her creativity all along was the force giving her a Heightened Sense of Thoughts that flow more fluidly than others.
This goes for how good her aim in the shows is, she has Force Insight the first power she truly does have.
