I can remember these in the 70's particularly traveling on the Hume Highway out of Melbourne. and they would be flying in them, pass you at 140kph, and they'd go all day like that.
Good review guys. John in particular has a good grasp on these vehicles. For many years I owned a 1500SS and still own the last body style of the 1300. The 1300 puts out 81bhp. The 1500SS put out 86. My 1300 weighs 810 kgs. The 1500 weighed 1070 kgs. With only the driver in a 1500, it weighed as much as a driver and 3 - 4 passengers in a 1300. If the 1500 had 4 - 5 folks in it, it weighed as much as a 1300 with 7 - 8 aboard. Performance of the 1500 was abysmal, but otherwise a brilliant car. At under 800 kgs, a series one 1300 was the best performer of the 1300's. The basic or "special" model didn't even have a radio or carpets so was very light but heavy in the segment (the Honda Civic weighed 657 kgs and the Datsun 1200 not much more). The "Super Deluxe" had an automatic electric aerial. Very swish. The Series 1 1300 could do the quarter mile in 19.1 secs. "Cruising" at 70 mph is probably pushing it though. In the mid seventies the 1300 was the cheapest 4 door sedan in Australia and virtually the cheapest car. Only the Mini, Civic 2 door and perhaps VW Beetle 1300 were cheaper...
Nice to see a clean 1300 coupe that hasn't been bastardised to become an Mazda R100 clone Every rotary guy watching this must be thinking its a clip screening of rares spares !

Awesome little machine. The featured car is a real credit to it's owner.
