Hi Mirella! 👋🏾 New subbie here. I’ve just discovered your channel and catching up / enjoying the latest vlogs. Probably so late on this lol, but had some reflections on the whole name change topic. I have to respectfully disagree. There are a myriad of reasons why a woman may hold value in her father’s name, and may opt to not change or go for a double barrelled surname. To say if your father’s name does not hold power, “lose it girl”, I think is regressive and perpetuates that the value we draw from our fathers is only in the power their name gives us. I wouldn’t want my daughter to view her father in that way. I think that either path is valid. There is beauty in taking on your husband’s name and there is also beauty in revering your lineage. And if your relationship is healthy, I would think the decision to keep or lose a surname is discussed openly and with no judgment. Now religion and culture can be a major factor, but even with that, I think these conversations are more layered than they seem on the surface. Some women, like myself, hold deep value in a father’s name. Just by virtue of the history and its meaning. I would like my children to carry that heritage. But I’m also open to making a decision that suits both me and my partner. My 2 cents, for what they’re worth 🤷🏾♀️

I’m thinking to myself, would I want my daughter to “lose” her dad’s name?🤔 thank you so much for sharing. I pray more couples are able to have these conversations and explore different ways of growing together and not lose where they come from.
