      @singwithjosh thank you 🙏🏽 . I combine daily practice with staccato exercises such as googoo, lala, then visualize the muscles around the chords gently staying in place. Voila!!! 🤗

    Hello, thank you for this video, it is exactly what I Was looking for. I have a question, how do I know that I am closing my vocal chords too tight or not enough? And how to combine vocal folds adduction and false vocal retraction since they are so close? Hope that I ve made myself clear, english is not my langage. .

      Usually vowel distortion is the biggest “tell” of an underlying problem, like over approximating vocal cords.

    New subscriber here, 59YO semi-professional rock/country singer (alto), and I've found that as I get older I'm having trouble hitting the higher notes in my range. Is this normal? Anyone else experienced this?

    • @singwithjosh
      @singwithjosh  10 місяців тому +1

      Thanks for tuning in. I think that is totally normal. As we age, we lose a bit of flexibility in our voice and our bodies. I think the struggle is trying to stay up-to-date on our technique and make sure we’re not falling into any bad habits.

      @@singwithjosh Thanks for the encouragement. I've already put some of your techniques into practice and noticed an improvement. I KNOW I've fallen into some bad habits as I've been singing pretty much all my life, and the only times I ever got around a voice coach, I was a dumb@ss kid who figured 'screw this I'll do it my way' - WRONG!

      Ha, yes, I’ve been that kid too. If you want to dive in more, check out that free course I have on my website (singwithjosh.com) - it covers a few more fundamentals.

    Hi Josh, do you have any advice for Muscle Tension Dysphonia? I have suffered with this for going on 4/5 years and have tried everything to get my voice back. I can no longer sing as I just have no voice and even before I speak my throat feels tight and strained 😢 Thank you in advance for any advice you may have.

      Hi, it might be best for me to hear you on a zoom call or something. I’m not a doctor, but we might be able to find some exercises that will release and relieve some of the tension. Can you get in touch with me through my boulder voice lessons website? I’d be happy to help out. 🙏

    • @singwithjosh
      @singwithjosh  Рік тому

      Hey, it’s all the same basic technique… work on the vowels and phrases, and adjust it for pop/rock/jazz, etc.
