Alvarez plays ~40% of his games in LF, that’s why his is higher. I totally agree that WAR doesn’t do a great job of capturing Ohtani’s full value, but the reason his oWAR is lower is because he’s being compared to the average hitting DH while Alvarez gets the benefit of his LF games, and Judge gets the _huge_ benefit of being compared offensively to centerfielders (the same way Trout racked up 80 in a decade) there’s a lot of minutia, but the underlying concepts in the adjustments make a lot of sense.
@corner jab they use pitcher WAR for pitchers, and it’s actually pretty generous. IIRC in the majority of years, the most valuable player by WAR in a given league is the pitcher.
