Also something that adds to Omegon theory is that one of the legendary Cypher feats was to escape Imperial Palace dungeons making even Custodes scratching their heads. The knowledge of how to do something like that, is for sure known to Alpharius and Omegon.
More likely only the real alpharius (aka omegon) since he was raised on terra and is actually the reason the blood games even happened now with the custodes . Honestly the fallen are arguably more mysterious than the alpha legion, they have Allies everywhere. fallen have worked with Alpha legion twice, Night lords, iron warriors, emperors children, space wolves, Ecclesiarchy and the fucking PDF. In Pandorax, it's implied by an encounter with a Tzentch demon that Epimetheus was a renamed fallen that became an original grey knight, but was apparently fated to have been Cypher but somehow swapped fates with another. A hanging plot thread is that Ezekiel has had a vision of the DA and Grey Knights joining together jumping into the Eye of Terror to rescue presumably Epimetheus. So it's a possible way to reveal Cypher's identity. Literally one dude knows who Cypher was, but is chained up with a blank strapped on his back being held by Abbadon.
Epimetheus is almost certainly a redeemed Zahariel. With this, Cypher is very likely Corswain or Holguin, who swapped places with Zahariel so that he could go to the Grey Knights.

I've heard the "Cipher is Alpharius/Omegon" theory before as a joke, but with the evidence you presented, I now see it has actual weight. I doubt GW will make it canon, but it would still be pretty cool to see the first and last primarchs return at the same time.
I think there's a good chance its the Dark Angel Holguin. He was the Dark Angel who carried around the Lion's sword after Guilliman broke it over his knee. I believe there's even a line in Ruinstorm where the Lion asks him why he is still carrying it around.

Yea it’s known the Twin Primarchs could blend in well with their Astartes due to being very close in size if not identical but keep in mind the Alpha Legion Marines were relatively ‘bigger’ or taller than any other Legion.
An addendum on the Alpharius/Omegon theory. The spear can be disassembled into multiple small pieces, including the head which can be split in two and used as combat knives, like when Alpharius infiltrated the Imperial palace to mess with Dorn. If i recall correctly, the Fists only recovered parts of the spear, and thought Dorn had broken it.

The passion in his voice when he said he'd fight GW if they tried to disprove his two biggest theories was both hilarious and surprisingly heart warming for reasons unknown to me.
I really like the theory that sais the fallen were the ones remaining loyal while the normal dark angels were the traitors. it gives their shame and paranoia of being discovered a bit more sense, and their hunt of the fallen is so the truth is never discovered. They also maintain the lion trapped as he wanted to confess and they cant allow it.
One way to mix the old and new lore would be to have the loyalists that followed the lion be the ones that got scattered through time, and Luther’s traitors remained in 30k, Luther wanted to confess so they locked him up
I have to admit I like the Omegon theory. But *Spoiler for the novella Dreadbringer* I have assumed that he was Holguin. Holguin pretty much just walks off after the Lion refuses to go back to Caliban after Alt+F4ing Barbaras, as he believes (correctly) that Luther is planning something. It explains how he got the Lion Sword (He was there when it was broken) and why he wants to wake the Lion. But the Omegon theory has got me to re-think that.

My theory is that Cypher is the Lion. Or at least, a psychic projection/piece of him. I agree with the piece of the Lion being attached to the sword. I think that's what Cypher is. Either a fragment of the Lions soul or a psychic shadow left on the blade. His loyalty seems questionable but his actions always aid the Imperium. Just like the Lion. Plus if he's a psychic projection it explains why he always escapes even the most inescapabpe prison. They separate him from the blade and move it to a different chamber, then after a time the projection vanishes from wherever it is and reappears at the blade allowing him to escape.
I've had similar thoughts. It would be cool if Cypher were either a psychic projection or could have a psychic link with the sleeping Lion that guides his actions.
GW has a great lore plot device in slowly returning Loyal Primarchs. It allows them to build the threat level up to something that appears to be certain doom and for the imperium to fall. Then a new loyalist Primarch is returned! Tons of new Models are sold. A million books are printed and listened to! The Empire is saved and hangs on by a thread! Everyone is totally engaged! Rinse repeat... every 10+ years..... most of us die before they all get returned..... Grimdark AF.

Thats exactly who i thought Cypher is !!! I was not expecting Majorkill to come to that conclusion. Im almost shook. It was always known Alpharius was the size of just a normal space marine and nobody could ever say what happened to Omegon
I have been holding on to the Zahariel theory for a long time and I think it's still my favorite (mostly bias because I got there myself). I do have some arguments though. Zahariel swapped sides a lot and wasn't confident in any true side. He was open minded, seeking truth above all else. I don't think he ever truly went full traitor I think he was mostly confused and being corrupted but was attempting to stay true. His psyker powers were always less dramatic than what you usually see. It was subtle and fits perfectly with Cyphers strange abilities and feats. I think ultimately Cypher being Zahariel makes the most sense and I liked the character and would like to see him returned. I do like the Omegon theory mostly now too. It certainly could work but motives are a bit strange, however all Alpha Legion motives are strange. The other theory I heard a lot was Corswain and surprised it wasn't brought up here. I could definitely see Corawain being a contender but I think he does lack the powers needed for the insane things Cypher has done. However a lot can change in 10,000 years.

Sometimes the milk might be spoiled or the gift might just be a single sock, but hey, at least you know he's still around somewhere.
Problem with this theory: Chris Wraight, who wrote the book where Alpharius dies, has confirmed him to be dead. If we track the movements of the two AL Primarchs across the galaxy, it turns out Omegon was the one on Pluto who died, and there is still a possibility Alpharius got his shit kicked in by the Ultramarines.
and thats why its actually the even secreter 3rd brother of the alpha legion triplet primarchs. think about it, symbols are the alpha sign three pointed symbol, and hydra, three heads. no one could keep track of who was where all about deception and hiding the truth, why not have the secret hiding in plain sight, that there is a third version? what better way to hide that than by a known primarch and a "decoy" secret one. no one in their right mind would look for a triplet after discovering the twin of a primarch and would be certain that that was the secret.
Alpharius and Omegon weren't smaller than their brothers, their blending was purely due to their special power. Alpharius was taller than Russ. In head of the hydra Alpharius was described as being the same height as Valdor, in Magesterium Russ was described as being shorter than Valdor.
I was at Zahariel. I think you're right! Cool. And the God's of earth thing. If the old eldar pantheons got absorbed into Slaanesh, then so could God's like Horus or Thor or the green man have been absorbed by Chaos or other gestalt entities. When the emperor entered the warp to bargin with the gods of chaos but stole from them, it was probably 20 shards that were originally hermetic powers but got consumed. That shard in a body made to hold it could well be a primarch. And shards can split which could have caused the mitosis of number 20.
Zahariel is Epimetheus of the Grey Knights. The novel Pandorax all but straight up tells you. It also tells you that Epi was SUPPOSED to be Cypher, and that a freaking Lord of Change was baffled by Epi being a Grey Knight. Cypher is going to be either Holguin or Corswain, who instead of killing Zahariel, stopped and swapped places with him, likely due to some intervention by the Watchers.
I belive that Cypher could be a fragment of Lion L. Jonson's mind/psyche. Whenever a new host dies, it possesses a new one so it could fit the theory that the is not just one Cypher. He could also be the missing part of the lions mind that is needed to wake him up. As for being antagonistic to dark angels occasionally, it could be that the part he has is the lion's regrets or rage that the chaos gods took during the warp storm the destroyed Caliban.

In his book Alpharius was shown capable to infiltrate every other legion, even more he spoke to Lion directly while disguised as Dark Angel marine. All Lion could sense is that something was off but not suspicious enough to investigate further.

In pretorian of dorn, Rogal basically just says I know you better than you think brother, essentially he knows that the others are a ruse. In the Alpharius book, he is told by Malcador to learn to hide his aura and mind from others and be the grey man seen but never noticed. essentially the perfect spy. Alpharius felt most akin to the Lion over all other primarchs, he even preferred him as Warmaster, so that is possibly the main reason why he keeps the sword its his favorite brothers
I thought Omegon was dead, since he and Alpharius traded places and identities when they first met and thus, Omegon travelled to Pluto and was killed by Rogal Dorn in the book, Preatorion of Terra.

I’m leaning towards him being Omegon simply for the fact this guy escapes Custodie custody! Maybe his eldar buddies have a webway gate somewhere in the black cells but I highly doubt it
My personal headcanon (unlikely as it is) is that Cypher is Holguin and he and the large numbers of loyal fallen actually work with the Dark Angels and their succesors, manipulating chaos warbands (might be part of the reason the black crusades usually fail) and working to purge those elements of the fallen that are traitorous. Cypher receives fragmented visions that the DA believe are from the Lion (though that might not be the case) and he is gifted unnatural power by the Watchers. Most of the Inner Circle are unaware of this, believing the same story we have been told, but those that are privy to this information regularly interact and share information with Cypher and other high level loyalist fallen. Asmodai would be an example of someone who does not know this as it is clear he lacks the complexity of thought to handle this situation. As such any fallen that he is allowed to hunt or interrogate are traitors, loyalists would go to Sapphon or other Interrogators who know the truth, and the "interrogation" is merely them reporting to their superiors and being reassigned to one of the myriad chapters under the Dark Angel banner. As i say, unlikely; but as someone who has been a fan of Dark Angels since they were black, i do get annoyed at how nonsensical their fear of discovery is (or at least was in the aftermath of the heresy) and how it seems to be all GW focus on.
I bought into the theory that Cypher is Omegon a while back. It makes sense. And with the Lion’s return, how awesome would it be if, during a meeting between Bobby G and the Lion, Cypher steps up and is like “brothers” and reveals himself to be Omegon, still loyal and playing the long-game. Of course Bobby G and the Lion would try to kill him instantly, but it would make for some great drama.
Cypher has always felt to me like the protagonist of a first person shooter that does everything and goes everywhere and solves all the problems, who was added to the Warhammer 40K. Think of Call of Duty with a 40K crossover
I always believed that cypher was really the lion when warp shenanigans happened it tore his soul out and put it in an astartes body and thats why the lion hasnt woke up he cant he has no soul. Thats why cypher is so attached to the sword its his sword and the reason he wants to talk to the emperor is to find a way back into his body.
I loved zahariels unique warp ability. Where time pauses and he can basically see through bodies and warp phase through them. When he kills that calabanite lion by doing this to grab its heart is too cool. I loved seeing a special ability like that, I wished librarians unique abilities were featured more cause that really was cool

On the topic of Alpha Legion being something different than you'd think, I personally got my coins on that the Space Sharks, the Carcharadons, are Alpha Legion. All you need is a small part of them being sent out into the dark edges of the galaxy by Omegon to protect something during the heresy but never being called back and you've got a chapter that forgot where it came from. With this Tyberos' size would make sense as well because he's one of the Marines that got the genetic "flaw" of being bigger than his brothers to match the small Primarchs that were the Hydra Twins. The way they fight and live is the product of 10'000 years eroding away on the once Alpha Legion chapter's culture and tactics, be it due to necessity or even on purpose, originally to hide the fact that they were Alpha Legion and taking up an entirely new persona. Now am I saying this is more likely than them being Raven Guard or Night Lords? No
There's one problem with Cypher being Omegon: Gulliman would have recognized him when they were with each other. Last I checked Cypher didn't wear a helmet when he was aiding Gulliman, and despite his powers I doubt he could fool Gullimen for as long as he did. One primarch [forgot their name] suspected Alpharius was not a normal marine despite him wearing the legions armor and a helmet that hid his face. Unless you want to argue that Omegon is even better at manipulating his appearance in the eyes of others.
Everyone seems to forget about the broken lion sword. which needs to be reforged. which is apart of the return of there primarch. and the forgiveness of the fallen.
Majorkill you should make a video on the what the roles of each primarch would have if they stayed loyal I know other youtubers have made videos on this topic but your opinions could be wildeldly different from theirs I would love to see it

I've heard the "Cipher is Alpharius/Omegon" theory before as a joke, but with the evidence you presented, I now see it has actual weight. I doubt GW will make it canon, but it would still be pretty cool to see the first and last primarchs return at the same time.

I think there's a good chance its the Dark Angel Holguin. He was the Dark Angel who carried around the Lion's sword after Guilliman broke it over his knee. I believe there's even a line in Ruinstorm where the Lion asks him why he is still carrying it around.

Yea it’s known the Twin Primarchs could blend in well with their Astartes due to being very close in size if not identical but keep in mind the Alpha Legion Marines were relatively ‘bigger’ or taller than any other Legion.

An addendum on the Alpharius/Omegon theory. The spear can be disassembled into multiple small pieces, including the head which can be split in two and used as combat knives, like when Alpharius infiltrated the Imperial palace to mess with Dorn.
If i recall correctly, the Fists only recovered parts of the spear, and thought Dorn had broken it.

I really like the theory that sais the fallen were the ones remaining loyal while the normal dark angels were the traitors. it gives their shame and paranoia of being discovered a bit more sense, and their hunt of the fallen is so the truth is never discovered. They also maintain the lion trapped as he wanted to confess and they cant allow it.
I miss the old codecies from 3rd-5th that has cool lore like that.

One way to mix the old and new lore would be to have the loyalists that followed the lion be the ones that got scattered through time, and Luther’s traitors remained in 30k, Luther wanted to confess so they locked him up

I have assumed that he was Holguin. Holguin pretty much just walks off after the Lion refuses to go back to Caliban after Alt+F4ing Barbaras, as he believes (correctly) that Luther is planning something. It explains how he got the Lion Sword (He was there when it was broken) and why he wants to wake the Lion. But the Omegon theory has got me to re-think that.
The Omegon theory is just a meme theory. Cypher is going to be Holguin or Corswain.

My theory is that Cypher is the Lion. Or at least, a psychic projection/piece of him.
I agree with the piece of the Lion being attached to the sword. I think that's what Cypher is. Either a fragment of the Lions soul or a psychic shadow left on the blade.
His loyalty seems questionable but his actions always aid the Imperium. Just like the Lion.
Plus if he's a psychic projection it explains why he always escapes even the most inescapabpe prison. They separate him from the blade and move it to a different chamber, then after a time the projection vanishes from wherever it is and reappears at the blade allowing him to escape.
I've had similar thoughts. It would be cool if Cypher were either a psychic projection or could have a psychic link with the sleeping Lion that guides his actions.

GW has a great lore plot device in slowly returning Loyal Primarchs. It allows them to build the threat level up to something that appears to be certain doom and for the imperium to fall. Then a new loyalist Primarch is returned! Tons of new Models are sold. A million books are printed and listened to! The Empire is saved and hangs on by a thread! Everyone is totally engaged! Rinse repeat... every 10+ years..... most of us die before they all get returned..... Grimdark AF.

Thats exactly who i thought Cypher is !!! I was not expecting Majorkill to come to that conclusion. Im almost shook. It was always known Alpharius was the size of just a normal space marine and nobody could ever say what happened to Omegon
I have been holding on to the Zahariel theory for a long time and I think it's still my favorite (mostly bias because I got there myself). I do have some arguments though. Zahariel swapped sides a lot and wasn't confident in any true side. He was open minded, seeking truth above all else. I don't think he ever truly went full traitor I think he was mostly confused and being corrupted but was attempting to stay true.
His psyker powers were always less dramatic than what you usually see. It was subtle and fits perfectly with Cyphers strange abilities and feats.
I think ultimately Cypher being Zahariel makes the most sense and I liked the character and would like to see him returned.
I do like the Omegon theory mostly now too. It certainly could work but motives are a bit strange, however all Alpha Legion motives are strange.
The other theory I heard a lot was Corswain and surprised it wasn't brought up here. I could definitely see Corawain being a contender but I think he does lack the powers needed for the insane things Cypher has done. However a lot can change in 10,000 years.
I've never heard of this theory but it makes a lot of sense, which is surprising since it's about dark angels, you know the guys defined by the fact that most of their actions make none .

Problem with this theory: Chris Wraight, who wrote the book where Alpharius dies, has confirmed him to be dead. If we track the movements of the two AL Primarchs across the galaxy, it turns out Omegon was the one on Pluto who died, and there is still a possibility Alpharius got his shit kicked in by the Ultramarines.
We should really just refer to them as "the living alpha legion primarch"
and thats why its actually the even secreter 3rd brother of the alpha legion triplet primarchs. think about it, symbols are the alpha sign three pointed symbol, and hydra, three heads. no one could keep track of who was where all about deception and hiding the truth, why not have the secret hiding in plain sight, that there is a third version? what better way to hide that than by a known primarch and a "decoy" secret one. no one in their right mind would look for a triplet after discovering the twin of a primarch and would be certain that that was the secret.
Alpharius and Omegon weren't smaller than their brothers, their blending was purely due to their special power. Alpharius was taller than Russ. In head of the hydra Alpharius was described as being the same height as Valdor, in Magesterium Russ was described as being shorter than Valdor.
I was at Zahariel. I think you're right! Cool. And the God's of earth thing. If the old eldar pantheons got absorbed into Slaanesh, then so could God's like Horus or Thor or the green man have been absorbed by Chaos or other gestalt entities. When the emperor entered the warp to bargin with the gods of chaos but stole from them, it was probably 20 shards that were originally hermetic powers but got consumed. That shard in a body made to hold it could well be a primarch. And shards can split which could have caused the mitosis of number 20.
Zahariel is Epimetheus of the Grey Knights. The novel Pandorax all but straight up tells you. It also tells you that Epi was SUPPOSED to be Cypher, and that a freaking Lord of Change was baffled by Epi being a Grey Knight. Cypher is going to be either Holguin or Corswain, who instead of killing Zahariel, stopped and swapped places with him, likely due to some intervention by the Watchers.

I belive that Cypher could be a fragment of Lion L. Jonson's mind/psyche. Whenever a new host dies, it possesses a new one so it could fit the theory that the is not just one Cypher. He could also be the missing part of the lions mind that is needed to wake him up. As for being antagonistic to dark angels occasionally, it could be that the part he has is the lion's regrets or rage that the chaos gods took during the warp storm the destroyed Caliban.
Wouldn't girlyman have detected another primarch? I thought that's what they did, Royal Dorn could detect Alpharius and a few other examples. Nah he's not a primarch, but nice idea.
In his book Alpharius was shown capable to infiltrate every other legion, even more he spoke to Lion directly while disguised as Dark Angel marine. All Lion could sense is that something was off but not suspicious enough to investigate further.

Well if you don't mess with someone just to fuck around, and you have a clear goal then you'd choose the disguise that best suits your needs. Also we don't know if he assume other disguises when he's not cosplaying Cypher. Assuming the theory is true of course.
In pretorian of dorn, Rogal basically just says I know you better than you think brother, essentially he knows that the others are a ruse. In the Alpharius book, he is told by Malcador to learn to hide his aura and mind from others and be the grey man seen but never noticed. essentially the perfect spy. Alpharius felt most akin to the Lion over all other primarchs, he even preferred him as Warmaster, so that is possibly the main reason why he keeps the sword its his favorite brothers

I thought Omegon was dead, since he and Alpharius traded places and identities when they first met and thus, Omegon travelled to Pluto and was killed by Rogal Dorn in the book, Preatorion of Terra.

My personal headcanon (unlikely as it is) is that Cypher is Holguin and he and the large numbers of loyal fallen actually work with the Dark Angels and their succesors, manipulating chaos warbands (might be part of the reason the black crusades usually fail) and working to purge those elements of the fallen that are traitorous.
Cypher receives fragmented visions that the DA believe are from the Lion (though that might not be the case) and he is gifted unnatural power by the Watchers. Most of the Inner Circle are unaware of this, believing the same story we have been told, but those that are privy to this information regularly interact and share information with Cypher and other high level loyalist fallen.
Asmodai would be an example of someone who does not know this as it is clear he lacks the complexity of thought to handle this situation. As such any fallen that he is allowed to hunt or interrogate are traitors, loyalists would go to Sapphon or other Interrogators who know the truth, and the "interrogation" is merely them reporting to their superiors and being reassigned to one of the myriad chapters under the Dark Angel banner.
As i say, unlikely; but as someone who has been a fan of Dark Angels since they were black, i do get annoyed at how nonsensical their fear of discovery is (or at least was in the aftermath of the heresy) and how it seems to be all GW focus on.

And with the Lion’s return, how awesome would it be if, during a meeting between Bobby G and the Lion, Cypher steps up and is like “brothers” and reveals himself to be Omegon, still loyal and playing the long-game. Of course Bobby G and the Lion would try to kill him instantly, but it would make for some great drama.

Omegon being Cypher has been an idea I've like for a long time. That or Alpharius only pretended pretending to pretend to die and it's him lol.
I always believed that cypher was really the lion when warp shenanigans happened it tore his soul out and put it in an astartes body and thats why the lion hasnt woke up he cant he has no soul. Thats why cypher is so attached to the sword its his sword and the reason he wants to talk to the emperor is to find a way back into his body.
I loved zahariels unique warp ability. Where time pauses and he can basically see through bodies and warp phase through them. When he kills that calabanite lion by doing this to grab its heart is too cool. I loved seeing a special ability like that, I wished librarians unique abilities were featured more cause that really was cool

On the topic of Alpha Legion being something different than you'd think, I personally got my coins on that the Space Sharks, the Carcharadons, are Alpha Legion. All you need is a small part of them being sent out into the dark edges of the galaxy by Omegon to protect something during the heresy but never being called back and you've got a chapter that forgot where it came from. With this Tyberos' size would make sense as well because he's one of the Marines that got the genetic "flaw" of being bigger than his brothers to match the small Primarchs that were the Hydra Twins.
The way they fight and live is the product of 10'000 years eroding away on the once Alpha Legion chapter's culture and tactics, be it due to necessity or even on purpose, originally to hide the fact that they were Alpha Legion and taking up an entirely new persona.
Now am I saying this is more likely than them being Raven Guard or Night Lords? No

There's one problem with Cypher being Omegon:
Gulliman would have recognized him when they were with each other.
Last I checked Cypher didn't wear a helmet when he was aiding Gulliman, and despite his powers I doubt he could fool Gullimen for as long as he did. One primarch [forgot their name] suspected Alpharius was not a normal marine despite him wearing the legions armor and a helmet that hid his face.
Unless you want to argue that Omegon is even better at manipulating his appearance in the eyes of others.
