The best camel ride experience is climbing Mt. Sinai with the camel. It was an experience of total abandonment to a camel in the dark. Flashlights are not allowed because it might distract the camel. With childlike trust, it creates a mystical experience as the creature brings you halfway up the mountain peak until the path gets too small for it to continue. From here, one starts climbing the mountain on foot and arrives at the peak to catch the sunrise. It's a breathtaking view of reddish, sun-kissed mountain rocks and a time to reflect on the experience of Moses meeting and talking to Yahweh. After sipping through this experience, one starts to descend from the mountain, being reminded of Moses who descended carrying the tablets containing the ten commandments. Indeed, a memorable experience!
Our visit was made before the troubles. Our visit was made through an Egyptian (Cairo) Company and was excellent in all aspects. We started this trip from Cairo in a private car. We arrived at our hotel after a ride through stunning country, we stopped off at a tiny oasis where Bedouin ladies were selling some local handicrafts. To get to Sinai you have to enter a national park area this area was handed back to the Bedouins by the Cairo government for them to administer and act as tour guides. The rock formations are stunning such beautiful colours. We arrive at a local hotel for which we were to stay in prior to going up Sinai. The hotel was excellent, with a swimming pool. At 0200am we started our trip we decided to use the camel ride up Sinai, you are led by local Bedouins who walk with you all the way up the mountain. You then come to certain point where you can no longer use the camels and you must climb up the mountain. The stones (steps) you climb over are very steep and you really need a good quality torch.
