I had no idea what he was measuring last time I saw this film. I figured he was doing some quirky outdated exercise technique.
1:10 I like how this scene is an effectual repeat from earlier in the movie when the depressed wife says the same thing in reference to Calvin suggesting the bunker is the same as the real world.

In the original script, right after the coffee scene (As a Brit, I cringed when Troy made coffee using the microwave), Adam showed his parents how to use a video player, describing it as a mini cinema. The movie was Natural Born Killers, and Eve and Troy shouted "No!" when they saw the opening credits.

Well she tried to turn him because he said he wanted to bring her to live with him in his underground bunker and they had already kissed and fell in love before she found out he was rich. The getting jealous part was weird though, since she told him she wasn’t interested in him but still got mad over him doing well with the girls.
She felt for him before she found out he was rich she loves him and She ends up running a nightclub with pastor in the end of the movie with her gay friend

@@eaglefang8656 it’s been longer than two weeks by this scene. Unless you think he built his parents a house in the country side overnight. My guess is it’s been several months if not close to a year. And Adam is a traditional man. They don’t need to date for years before deciding to propose, they propose when they know their girl is the one they love and want to spend the rest of their lives with. And Adam knew that from the moment he saw her, as he tells her earlier in the movie at the club. So, no. Not two weeks.

@@eaglefang8656 yes, I know that. But if you honestly think that this scene takes place a week or two after that nightclub scene, then you’re crazy. There’s clearly been a time skip, since Adam has bought several acres and commissioned the construction of building an exact replica of his parents original house. There were no blueprints of his original house he had to work with, the man had to draw those up from scratch based on the layout of the fallout shelter. Plus, the foundation had to be established, the house had to get built, the plumbing and electrical had to be put in, it had to be painted, wallpaper had to be ordered and put in and it had to be decorated. That shit takes months to accomplish. If you honestly think all that could’ve been done in a FEW DAYS, then you’re a fucking idiot.

Second, Ukraine (or at least parts of it) has had a history of opposing Russia ever since the 18th century when it was subsumed by the Russian Empire. While he is primarily portrayed as a scientist, Calvin is well rounded enough in the humanities to teach Adam multiple languages, so it’s entirely possible that he would be at least somewhat familiar with Eastern Europe’s modern history.

I thought that in the end, we were going to see Adam and Eve with a kid of their own. It is nice to know that they got married though since Eve wears her engagement ring at the end.
I would've also liked to see Adam and his parents' reactions to finding out about Apollo 11. Just imagine how ecstatic they would be about people going to the moon. Calvin probably would've asked about Kennedy's reaction when it happened which would lead to them finding out about his assassination.

Also, if you look closely... in the scene near the end when she (Helen) is telling Calvin "No Calvin, this is different." there are no trees behind her on the back right side of the back yard (in the dark green grass) as you're facing away from the house, that area is only grass; but in the final scene where you see Calvin pacing off his new fallout shelter from an aerial camera, you can see one or two of those small trees on that side of the back yard. Plus almost all of the white outdoor patio/lawn chairs have been moved. They are placed differently. Plus the BBQ has been moved, and a few other things.
The trees being added are proof that those shots were on different days even though it's supposed to be the same day in the movie because they're all wearing the same clothes in all the scenes at the end when "Adam & Eve" bring his parents out to their new, old house.
So what did they do? THEY MUST'VE REALLY BUILT A HOUSE!! So there must be somebody really living there. They wouldn't have torn it down after the director said "that's a wrap!" And that's an expensive "prop" or " backdrop" or whatever. I'd like to tour that house - and ALL the locations used in this movie. (And a lot of other movies and TV shows! Bucket list.)

Thankfully, they survived the crash because of the shelter but the government wouldn’t given them a dime because Calvin made the shelter illegally.

All of history is a Cold War. It's members and leaders shift as power is transferred throughout civilizations over the ages. I think this scene was interesting considering this movie was from 1999, and the 90s were very "care free" from a geopolitical standpoint, and everyone thought the future was bright until 9/11 crushed that dream. Humans will always be human.
That said the Cold War did end in MAD, just not with nukes. Russia was destroyed economically and large parts were in a state of anarchy in the 90s, and it still hasn't recovered. The US fell victim to the cultural rot of Soviet subversion and is a soulless husk running on fumes now. China seems to have picked up the red flag, I'm curious who will raise the blue one when the US collapses, much like the US did when the UK fell.
With Democrats like Biden and Republicans like Bush running for office every single year the fall of the US is completed. Trump only delayed that process the problem with this nation is RED vs BLUE and people are too stupid to realize they are fighting among themselves instead of a better life and own survival
