Thank you Brother Corey for this particular message. This is so needed today. We often take the gifts and exult them over the calling.

Is it any wonder that edifying discussions and study is clear? The truth is clear, and edifies the body. Case in point this was clear and edifying, and in spirit in truth by relying on God’s word- the clear and edifying truth to the body. God bless and thank you Corey.

The fact is people want the gifts to feel important and special. And they will never get it until they humble themselves and seek the kingdom, righteousness and love for others.

Good teaching brother! Much more balanced that usual lol. I beleive tongues are for today, but like all other gifts listed, should be done as the Spirit wills (1 cor 12) therefore I think people can give out a tongue in a service if they are lead by the Spirit, but it should be interpreted so all can be edified. This is why Paul says pray you may interpret. If there is no interpreter/interpretation given, then they should remains silent. 1 cor 14 is clear on this. As for private tongues, 1 cor 14 lends to the idea that if there is no interpreter for tongues, that praying to yourself and to God (contextually - in tongues) is okay.
1 Corinthians 14:28 But if there be no interpreter, let him keep silence (greek-hold your peace) in the church; and let him speak to himself, and to God.
    - "hold your peace" doesn't literally mean "not a sound" it's more about privacy in speech, not speaking out for all to hear. This nuance is needed here. Though I still think people can go too far with the whole "private prayer language" thing.
Also, prophecy I think is such an undervalued gift in the church. Paul says in 1 cor 14 that when used properly it will reveal the hearts of men and bring them to worship God. I just don't understand how anyone could possibly say that this is not a needed gift today. Though I think it could be that some think all prophecy should be canonized a scripture since it is from God...but that's not true at all. Where are the prophecies that Phillips daughters gave if they are all to be on level with canon?? Lol
1 Corinthians 14:24-25 But if all prophesy, and there come in one that believeth not, or one unlearned, he is convinced of all, he is judged of all: And thus are the secrets of his heart made manifest; and so falling down on his face he will worship God, and report that God is in you of a truth.

Spiritual gifts are given to every member of the body by the Spirit, to profit the body.
We, as Christians, are members of the body of Christ, and the gifts are given to each member severally, or as his own.
It is the gifts of the Spirit that distinguish each member, one from another, that every member performs a different purpose from the others. That is the nature of every kind of body.
Every member of the body is joined together by joints and bands and ministers nourishment to the body.
But today certain members are not permitted to manifest the gifts that have been given by the Spirit, causing a dysfunction of the body to the detriment of every member.
The pastor is only one gift, there are others that are also needful.
The body is also nourished by the other members
The church today is full of nonmembers, those who are not part of the body, but a hindrance, like the mixed multitude that accompanied Israel when they left Egypt.
Desire spiritual gifts, and forbid not prophecy. In the church there should be those who are qualified to judge prophecy, and to edify the people as well as teach them.

The 12 Apostles were given power to cast out demons
Mathew 10:1 And when he had called unto him his twelve disciples, he gave them power against unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal all manner of sickness and all manner of disease.
The 70 Disciples were given power to cast out demons
    Luke 10:17-20
17 And the seventy returned again with joy, saying, Lord, even the devils are subject unto us through thy name.
18 And he said unto them, I beheld Satan as lightning fall from heaven.
19 Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you.
20 Notwithstanding in this rejoice not, that the spirits are subject unto you; but rather rejoice, because your names are written in heaven.
Other followers of Jesus Christ were given power to cast out demons (Jesus said forbid them not)
    Luke 9:49-50
49 And John answered and said, Master, we saw one casting out devils in thy name; and we forbad him, because he followeth not with us.
50 And Jesus said unto him, Forbid him not: for he that is not against us is for us.
All believers were given power to cast out demons
    Mark 16:17 And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues;
Deliverance is part of the great commission
    Mark 16:15-17
15 And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.
16 He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.
    17 And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues;
    Mathew 28:19-20
19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:
20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen.
Deliverance is part of the great commission and we need to observe everything what Jesus commanded (including deliverance).
Nowhere does the bible mention that deliverance has ceased
On the contrary we do find Jesus saying all gifts will cease when Jesus returns.
    1 Cor 13:8-10
8 Charity never faileth: but whether there be prophecies, they shall fail; whether there be tongues, they shall cease; whether there be knowledge, it shall vanish away.
9 For we know in part, and we prophesy in part. (refer 1 John 3:2 for similar wording)
10 But when that which is perfect is come, then that which is in part shall be done away.
11 When I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things.
12 For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known.
Who will we see face to face? Jesus. Jesus is the “that which is perfect has come” when he returns the 2nd time
Similar verses that indicate that the “that which is perfect has come” refers to Jesus’s second coming
    1 John 3:2
Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is. (compare with above 1 Cor 13:9, 10 & 12)
What have we learnt so far?
    • Jesus gave power to the 12 apostles to cast out demons, also to the 70 disciples, also other believers who Jesus said not to forbid & also Jesus said all believers have the power to cast out demons
    • Deliverance is part of the great commission which accompanies preaching & also healing
    • Gifts will not cease on earth until Jesus returns
Now let’s look specifically at if a Christian can have a demon. Firstly, lets consider the following questions
    1. Were demons ever cast out of you? (Demons were never cast out of me)
    2. Have you ever seen demons cast out of someone else?
(I never saw it in person until recently, the most I ever saw was the pastor praying for someone who started to shake & manifest. The pastor then patted her on the back and stopped the prayer. This women said she went from church to church and no one could deliver her from demons- how sad)
    3. Is deliverance a common practice in the church? (No it is not- it is frowned upon & the church will cast you out for needing deliverance these days- How sad)
Deliverance needs to be done on someone who has a demon and we can see 4 instances where Christ followers were “filled with satan”
    Ananias & Sapphira
    Acts 5:3
But Peter said, Ananias, why hath Satan filled thine heart to lie to the Holy Ghost, and to keep back part of the price of the land?
    • Was Ananias a Christian? He was doing what all other Christians were doing & selling their possessions for the common good of all Christians. What unbeliever would sell all they have for the common good of Christians? Why would God strike an unbeliever dead for lying to the Holy Ghost? Of course, Ananias & Sapphira were Christ follower’s.
    Judas Iscariot
Luke 22:3 Then entered Satan into Judas surnamed Iscariot, being of the number of the twelve.
John 13:27 And after the sop Satan entered into him. Then said Jesus unto him, That thou doest, do quickly.
    Peter
    Mathew 16:21-23
21 From that time forth began Jesus to shew unto his disciples, how that he must go unto Jerusalem, and suffer many things of the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and be raised again the third day.
22 Then Peter took him, and began to rebuke him, saying, Be it far from thee, Lord: this shall not be unto thee.
23 But he turned, and said unto Peter, Get thee behind me, Satan: thou art an offence unto me: for thou savourest not the things that be of God, but those that be of men.
    • Satan spoke through Peter one of the 12 apostles, who interestingly enough was the same apostle who rebuked Ananias saying “why has satan filled your heart”
    • Not only Peter believed a christian could be filled with satan, but Jesus also KNEW a believer can be filled by satan when he rebuked Peter when the devil spoke through him.
    • How can believers today deny the devil can fill the heart of believers and speak through them when they give place to the devil??? THEY DENY SCRIPTURE & hence are ignorant to the devils devises. Didn’t Peter & Jesus get the memo? “a Christian cannot be demonized”
We are told NOT to be ignorant of the devils devises.
    2 Cor 11:9-11
9 For to this end also did I write, that I might know the proof of you, whether ye be obedient in all things.
    10 To whom ye forgive any thing, I forgive also: for if I forgave any thing, to whom I forgave it, for your sakes forgave I it in the person of Christ;
11 Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.
    • We are told satan can get an advantage on Christians & we are told not to be ignorant of his devises
    • Ignorance of the devils devises allows easy assess for satan to get an advantage on a believer
    • How does satan get an advantage on Christians? The context speaks about unforgiveness. When a Christians has unforgiveness towards someone the devil gains an advantage over them. This is just one way the devil can fill the heart of a Christian, when they hold unforgiveness.
    • We also see in verse 9 that Paul was testing the Corinthians if they were obedient in “all things”. Satan can get an advantage over a Christian not only when they hold unforgiveness but when they commit ANY sin.
    • Satan got an advantage over Ananias & Sapphira when they were covetous & lied. (Satan filled their hearts) Acts 5:3 But Peter said, Ananias, why hath Satan filled thine heart to lie to the Holy Ghost, and to keep back part of the price of the land?
    • Satan got an advantage over Judas when he was covetous and betrayed Jesus for money (Satan ENTERED him) Luke 22:3 Then entered Satan into Judas surnamed Iscariot, being of the number of the twelve.
    • Satan got an advantage over Peter when he lacked faith & spoke against the plan of God for Jesus to go to the cross. (Satan spoke through him) Mathew 16:23 But he turned, and said unto Peter, Get thee behind me, Satan: thou art an offence unto me: for thou savourest not the things that be of God, but those that be of men.
    • This is why it is so important to live Holy so we do not have our hearts filled with satan as Ananias, Sapphira, Peter & Judas (All Christ followers)
When a Christian sins it gives place to satan. Satan can then form strongholds in a Christians life by forming habits and reoccurring sins. Notice that when Peter rebuked Ananias he says “why hath Satan filled thine heart to lie to the Holy Ghost”. Ananias was filled with satan before he committed the act of lying to God. Satan influenced the actions of a Christian, but the devil does not have access to a Christians heart to influence them to sin if they are living Holy, Ananias must have allowed the devil prior access in order for the devil to “fill their hearts to lie to God”. This is correct, before Ananias lied they first held back part of the money which gave place for the devil to fill their hearts and later lie to the Apostles. They sinned, the devil entered and caused them to sin more.

When we sin we give place to the devil to fill us. We must close all doors to the devil by closing all doors to sin. We must live Holy to prevent the devils access to us.
      1 Peter 5:8-9
8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:
9 Whom resist stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world.
      • The devil seeks who he may devour, and we are warned by Peter the devil can devour a Christian if he is not “sober & vigilant”
      • We are told to “Resist” and this is not possible without being sober & vigilant (not ignorant of his devises)
      • If we are not aware of the devils devises we fail to be “sober & vigilant” and hence can be devoured by our adversary the devil just like Ananias, Sapphira, Judas & Peter were.
      James 4:1-10
1 From whence come wars and fightings among you? come they not hence, even of your lusts that war in your members?
2 Ye lust, and have not: ye kill, and desire to have, and cannot obtain: ye fight and war, yet ye have not, because ye ask not.
3 Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts.
4 Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God.
5 Do ye think that the scripture saith in vain, The spirit that dwelleth in us lusteth to envy?
6 But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble.
7 Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
8 Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded.
9 Be afflicted, and mourn, and weep: let your laughter be turned to mourning, and your joy to heaviness.
10 Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up.
      • We are warned by James the first bishop of Jerusalem (brother of Jesus) to Resist the devil
      • We are told what resisting the devil actually means and it is by resisting worldliness, sin & by submitting to God by cleansing our hands & purifying our hearts.
      • If we do not resist wordliness, sin & even unbelief (in the case of Peter) then we are not resisting the devil and he will not flee from us but be with us and operate through us as shown in the examples of Ananias, Sapphira, Judas & Peter
      • Resisting wordliness & sin is not merely outwardly but inwardly as Jesus describes on the sermon on the mount (lust & murder begins in the heart and you are as guilty as if you did it in person)
      • Sinning in the heart (mind/thoughts) gives place for the devil and we are exhorted to “purify our hearts” in verse 8.
      • So not only outward sins give place for satan to devour us, fill our hearts & speak through us but inward sins of the heart also.
      • God sees sin in a greater depth than we do. Satan can get access to us through sin that we may not be aware of if we are not sober & vigilant. The wrong thought meditated upon gives access for satan & these wrong thoughts must be confessed to God & repented of to close the door that has been opened for demonic access.
      What have we learnt?
      • Jesus gave power to the 12 apostles to cast out demons, also to the 70 disciples, also other believers who Jesus said not to forbid & also Jesus said all believers have the power to cast out demons
      • Deliverance is part of the great commission which accompanies preaching & also healing
      • Gifts will not cease on earth until Jesus returns
      • We considered if demons have been cast out of us, have we cast out demons from others or witnessed others casting out a demon? And we also considered if deliverance is common place in the church
      • We read 4 examples of the devil filling the hearts of Christians Ananias, Sapphira, Judas & Peter
      • We read how we are to resist the devil and it is by living holy
      • We read that holiness is not merely outwardly but inwardly of the heart (thoughts)
      • We know that we can give place for satan to enter us/fill our hearts by outward & inward sins
      • We also read that we need to close all doors to the devil that have been opened through sin by confessing & repenting
Can a Christian have a demon? Can demons come back into a Christian even after being delivered?
      Jesus teaches
      Mathew 12:43-45
43 When the unclean spirit is gone out of a man, he walketh through dry places, seeking rest, and findeth none.
44 Then he saith, I will return into my house from whence I came out; and when he is come, he findeth it empty, swept, and garnished.
45 Then goeth he, and taketh with himself seven other spirits more wicked than himself, and they enter in and dwell there: and the last state of that man is worse than the first. Even so shall it be also unto this wicked generation.
Jesus clearly taught a demon can come back into a Christian after being delivered. It is not heresy to believe a Christian can have a demon after being born again and after being delivered. Christians should examine their hearts and their life to see if they have sin in it. Sin is a symptom of demons living in them. Sin is not merely “big outward sins” but “little inward sins of the heart” too as Jesus told us on the sermon on the mount.
There is much more on the topic that can be shared. But to require an example of a Christian casting a demon out of a “mature Christian” in order to believe in it, while ignoring “mature Christians” had their hearts filled with satan is the same style argument Muslim use when they ask “show me a scripture where Jesus said the exact phrase “I am God” ……………. They think just because you cant share a specific scripture with the exact phrase that Jesus is not God. When Jesus says things like “I am alpha & Omega, the First & Last”…….and this is what God called himself in the Old Testament.
We know for sure a Christian can have a demon after being born again and delivered previously. Therefore how could it be “heresy” to believe a “mature Christian” might have a demon??? Who are we to judge if the Christian is “mature” or not? I would say for all Christians to examine their hearts and life and to cast demons out if they have any type of sin that is ongoing in their life.
Demons are uncomfortable when they are exposed, they want to remain in darkness and not be confronted. Demons lie to people to keep them bound. Demons manifest in pride, arrogance and self righteousness and shut their ears to the truth of Gods word. The humble will inherit the kingdom of God, the Christians with childlike faith.
It was the Pharisees that rejected Jesus and the move of the Holy Spirit. It was the religious folk who blasphemed the Holy Spirit and said the move of God was of the devil. We need to make sure we keep humble and never blaspheme the Holy Spirit. If we don’t understand something we need to put it on the shelf and never be arrogant enough to call something heresy and especially not to call a move of God as demonic.

This subject is very useless, mainly because which one of use really desire spiritual gifts, or really desire to be a vessel for The Lord Jesus Christ to use? All people do is talk, talk and talk, and then critique people who claim to have spiritual gift, and where do we end up? No where. Stop talking and show me the goods. Put up or shut up! Period 🙏🏾

My pastor says we can edify ourselves with the gifts as Paul did not say this was negative. I tried explaining this teaching and I am told I am wrong. Our Bible study last Sunday was on 1 Corinthians 14 and and both pastors said based on the context Paul was referring to heavenly language as opposed to Acts 2 tongues. They also said verse 2 doesn't have the meaning Corey says it has because speaking in tongues there is really speaking to God, which is not negative as how Corey frames it. They say people like Corey are twisting verse 2 to fit their theology . They agree with the Greek word used for tongues in the chapter, but claim apostle Paul assign a heavenly language meaning to it in this context, not human language. So controversial....sigh

    • @darthjedi99
      @darthjedi99 Рік тому +1

So ask them if it's a heavenly language why does it say we speak to God? I speak to God in English. If they continue to teach this ask them when heavenly language will cease like it says in 1 Cor 13:8. Heavenly language is eternal, it never ceased. Boom! Also why does Paul go on in the rest of Chapter 14 to say not to speak in tongues but rather words easy to understand? Tongues was speaking other languages to witness, it was for unbelievers like the passage says.

You see Jesus taught humility and service first to stop the disciples from self worship when performing sign gifts because we are to serve God not ourselves power corrupts. @Christopher Hayes I mostly agree. I think the fact that Paul even addresses this issue is evidence the Corinthians were being disorderly and wanting to speak in tounges (unorderly) for their own edification. It got way too out of hand-sorta like modern churches nowadays. To me, I see no purpose in this “unknown tounge” Paul minimally speaks about. It seems sarcastic when Paul says “I thank God that I speak in tounges more than you all”-illustrating that he, who has this gift to a greater degree than the likely selfish members, sought the higher gift of prophecy (preaching forth the Word) because it was better for the church. My complaint is that modern churches see these chapters as evidence for tounges (they don’t distinguish between which), yet don’t hold to anything like what Paul prescribed, but more like what the Corinthians were originally doing.

    Mark 16:17 And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues;
Deliverance is part of the great commission
    Mark 16:15-17
15 And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.
16 He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.
    17 And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues;
    10 To whom ye forgive any thing, I forgive also: for if I forgave any thing, to whom I forgave it, for your sakes forgave I it in the person of Christ;
11 Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.
    • We are told satan can get an advantage on Christians & we are told not to be ignorant of his devises

    Mark 16:17 And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues;
Deliverance is part of the great commission
    Mark 16:15-17
15 And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.
16 He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.
    17 And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues;
    10 To whom ye forgive any thing, I forgive also: for if I forgave any thing, to whom I forgave it, for your sakes forgave I it in the person of Christ;

@9:04 “we should edify the body not ourselves.”
Is that what the scripture is actually says?
Isn’t the key to what Paul is teaching here,
“IN THE CHURCH” or when assembled together? That’s why all is to be done for the whole…when assembled “in the church”.
    It would seem that :
outside of the assembly, if a person is part of the body, and they are edifying themselves by speaking in an unknown tongue mysteries to God, aren’t they also edifying the body since they themselves are part of the body ?? It doesn’t seem that it has to be a “instead of” / “either or” type of situation.
*(as long as it’s not being done “out of order I the assembly”).
If you are saying “tongues” is to edify yourself but edifying yourself is wrong then basically tongues is wrong. But wouldn't that be in contradiction to “forbid Not to speak with tongues.” ??
    1 Cor 14:39
39 Wherefore, brethren, covet to prophesy, and forbid not to speak with tongues.

Also, Could you explain the difference between
{ πνευματικοῖς : pneumatikos - spiritual things } (which you used in this video)
    vs
    { χαρίσματα : charisma - gifts }
    vs
    { δωρεὰν: dōrea - gift } .
Is there a reason you didn’t approach the topic from either of those other angles?

Does he have an email I can submit a “question” to? (Not really a question but I wanted submit something to him) If you do happen to see this Corey, there is a UA-camr “Mike Rutkowski” (both his name and UA-cam handle) that I think would be awesome if you would make a video on him. I remember being relatively “new” to Christianity and feeling condemned and depressed every other day and that guy certainly did not help. Seemed more like he was in the business of kicking people in the face and calling them fools rather pointing them to Jesus. Not the type of person I would invite to a bbq. Honestly kind of starting to piss me off the more that I think about him. Can’t even watch his videos anymore because it’s like ptsd of nothing but condemnation and discouragement. I would like your take on him. Another youtuber (forget the name) even made multiple videos calling the Bible the mark of the beast and trying to use scriptures to support it. Again, very serious personality and very tense. It gets old seeing this kind of stuff. You could probably find one of her videos by just typing in “Bible is the mark of the beast.” They don’t give Christianity a good look. Even seeing mikes replies in the comments of his videos is bizarre and very condemning. Not really helping anybody up, but rather packing more weight onto people and saying “your doomed if you don’t get up.” I need to start thinking about something else. Dude had a problem with everything.
