A video exploring the making of one of my favourite science fiction movies, Blade Runner. I'd been looking for a video online, or at least a video essay, that discussed the visual mastery of this film, and couldn't find one. So I thought I'd give it a go!

Blade Runner 2049 has absolutly mind blowing practical effects
The miniatures created for Blade Runner 2049 are brilliant as well. ua-cam.com/video/sLxxbfsj8IM/v-deo.html
I just wanted to say a huge thank you,for suggesting "Chungking express" to me a few weeks ago,in a comment. What a great film it is,maybe not "in the Mood for love" great, but still, one of China's best.
Just watching this video for a few minutes has completely sold me on watching this movie for the first time. Thank you!
Make sure to buy it on blu-ray, relax, and enjoy. Fantastic film! Glad you liked the video :)
Or, if you are a 4k fan and can hold off a bit, they are releasing it in september in time for Blade Runner 2049. With all the dynamic range in the city shots it seems like one that HDR would work really well with along with the darker moments that HDR can better resolve. I almost bought it on blu ray a few months ago but was holding out hope for the 4k
Such a great video man, I love practical effects in movies and this one is one of my most favorite practical pictures ever shot ✨
Blade Runner 2049 is my most anticipated movie, I was never hyped so much for a film before and I believe that with a crew so talented behind and also in front of the cameras working on this, I won't be disappointed 😌
Thanks man! I agree, the film is a masterpiece, and the 2049 is looking really exciting! It's definitely looking like it could be one of the best films this year! Fingers crossed
Great work on the video! Just watched the film and it was incredible
Thanks so much! Glad you liked the video and the film! :)
fuck yes
Great video
One of my favorite films.
amazing essay, keep it up ;)
great video, great start for my research for uni, can I ask if you have any references for what you have said :)
good shit
to be honest, the environment/look of the film was more interesting than the plot/characters/premise.
by the time the film was over, I was just like "that was it?" but a lot of the visuals/sound design are still stuck in my head.
Blade Runner 2049 wasn't quite as visually intense, but it had a much better story and was more consistent than the original.
1:58 louis ck?
Apparently there's quite a lot of practical effects in the new Blade Runner

80% of the movie is the music of vangelis.
more like set building
i was just getting emotional last night over roy batty's monologue, so thanks for this
Amazing film! Glad you enjoyed it
@@viewfinder.channelamazing piece you did!
Can't believe how much can be created practically, just amazing! Terminator 2 would be another great for practical effects, especially the mirror scene and of course the Nolan films are great for practicality. Definitely going to have to watch Blade Runner now!

Most gorgeous film ever
Amazing video, love this film and FYI I like the sound of your voice! Who says you have to conform and be like all the other video essays! you are unique and talented! Glad I pledge to you on patreon, keep it up!!!
I can't believe I haven't watched this film before, but after you've put your spin on it, it's the first thing I'll watch as soon as I'm in front of a tv. Great work!
Thanks a lot! Make sure to check this masterpiece out when you get the chance :)
Ugh notification was four minutes late, I hate UA-cam
Haha! Thanks for the support man, hope you liked it :)
I love practical effects but being a matte painter, matte painting is still widely used by studios, maybe not as it was practiced in the past but landscapes and 3d rendering still need handmade textures and backgrounds.
I guess you weren't dissapointed about 2049 hehe given how much details they put on sets and miniatures from what i've seen in the making of documentaries i think there is no films nowadays using that much miniatures and real sets denis villeneuve said he wanted to use as much real sets as possible so the actors could immerse themselves more and it pays of you can feel the places on the screen there is CGI where it is useful and almost impossible to make other wise but most of it is just amazingly crafted
Nicely written and well reviewed man! I just saw it last year and I was shocked how much it still holds up from special effects wise. You know I just made a review of this movie analyzing its shadows, the villain and noir. I don't know if you would like to check it out and see what you think? See ya :)
Wow! Awesome job on this - Mind, BLOWN! Thank you so much for your time and documentation.
for the sequel i.e. blade runner 2049. Miniatures were created for a majority of establishing shots.
This is brilliant! You described the key points so well.
From what I've seen in interviews and bts footage most of the trailer footage is done in camera.
There's a behind the scenes featurette for the new film you should check out. From what I saw they were using miniature models for the city shots.
A few people have mentioned such things, which is why I decided to keep it unbiased :) It's sounds a bit like Star Wars 7, a lot of practical, with just as much CGI too
Your voice is so harsh. Try being smoother like Nerdwriter or most other video essayists. Great video tho!
