I took the slow train (stopped at every single stop) from akita, transferred at higashi noshiro where the train enroute to Aomori would stop at fukaura. The sunset for that one hour (next train was last train), allowed one to stop and watch the sunset across the sea of japan
I finally reached my stop at mutsu tsuruda for a night where I got to visit the Tsuruda-no-Mai bridge and then a day trip to hirosaki
    Good Tohoku times

I took the Resort Shirakami, but going the other way around a few years back. It's a really really nice train ride. I missed the live stream earlier, so now about to start watching it. I hope you stopped at that station where they sold really awesome fresh tuna steak sandwiches. Gonna sit back and enjoy this ride. I hope you also got to film that live shamisen performance.

You John are the “ King of Streaming “ with real quality and great exciting narration. Super content. We had a territory back in the 70’s that we of course use the trains and nothing like 4 hours but a good 2 hours away from our hone base. We had “missionary bikes” located at different train stations so when we got off the trains , we would hope on these bikes that had same code and security for our use. It was really cool to have that added transportation options. Love your content

So cool! Thank you for sharing this awesome experience.
And it makes me feel a little bit "homesick": Last year we also travelled with the Joyful Train Resort Shirakami from Hirosaki to Juniko where we stayed at the Resort Awone Shirakami Jyuniko. Because we travelled in the weekend we had a special treat: a live performance of two shamisen musicians in the front train! The journey along the coast was amazing and the resort was very remote and incredibly beautiful. Highly recommended!

Another unexpected surprise. Those large picture windows made for an amazing backdrop behind John as the countryside rolled by. It looked almost like John had a green screen behind him. Lovely train as well with all the wood finish. In Canada the best scenic train routes go through the spectacular Rocky Mountains but our trains aren’t quite as nice as this one.

Watching this right now as I type this. It's 0230 on Tuesday morning as I'm on leave, which is the military jargon of vacation. Take care of yourself and Kanai. Was in Sapporo (NW of it, actually in Otaru) visiting my Grandfather, a retired fisherman 2 weeks ago. According to our Base Commander, we can still travel domestically, except in Tokyo Metro Area. The cases are spiking in Hokkaido and watching the news, they're suspending the Go To Travel subsidy because of the rise in cases up there (300 cases as of 23 Nov). Just be careful up the in Aomori Pref.

1:28:48 The Sea of Japan is on the WEST side of the Japanese archipelago. If we have to call it the "East Sea" as the Korean side wants, then the existence of the Japanese archipelago would be erased from the map. In fact, the Japanese archipelago was erased from the world map posted on the official website of the 2018 PyeongChang Olympic Organizing Committee and left there for seven months.
But if the Japanese archipelago really did not exist, the Sea of Japan would not exist either. It would just be that the Pacific Ocean would flow directly off the coast of Korea.
Some Koreans say that it should be called the "Korean Sea" instead of the "East Sea," but the Sea of Japan between Russia and Japan cannot be called the "Korean Sea."
The vertical length of the Sea of Japan = the length of the Japanese archipelago.
