I appreciate Haley for not being shy about not wanting to read all the “spice.” It’s just too much and people just fawn over the books with all the spice.

Spice can really take so much away from a book…it’s just not necessary to always be so graphic!

I enjoy a little spice in romance books if the characters have good chemistry and it's done well. But the way so many people love books ONLY for the spice has ruined a lot of romance books

I just finished Silver Flames too and your assessment took the words right out of my mouth. The best parts were the beginning and end, I loved the actual plot once it finally got going but SJM took the chemistry between the two leads and went wild with it 😂

Me reacting to your page flipping😂. I agree with your taste. As a fellow Christian, I really don't enjoy those descriptive overly spicy scenes and literally cringe and do the page turning thing!!! I guess that's why I was so afraid to venture away from classics.

I completely agree on The Rom-commers! I got it from Netgalley and i loved it! so easy to get into, theres unlikable traits on the characters but you never entirely dislike them, the real life problems are well written so good!!
I got the first Crescent City book ‘House of Earth and Blood’ by Sarah J. Maas two days ago, I’m so excited because it’s my first Sarah J. Maas book and I’ve heard great stuff abt this series.
i need to start CC. you totally don’t have to read the books this way but i recommend reading the ACOTAR series first, TOG series, then CC. because the CC books after might not sense to you since there are connections if that makes sense.

Theres actually another book by Sarah J mass called Catwoman Soulstealer, not sure if you have read it, its in an interconnected series with other authors.
that's EXACTLY how I felt about like the whole ACOTAR series. I don't even mind the spice that much, but I felt like every book was a slog until the last 50 pages when all of the plot was crammed in. The end was always great, and made me want to read the next one, but then it would start up again where it was ridiculously slow for 400 pages until the end

the acosf opinion is crazy (but very valid) to me cause i’m obsessed with that book. i love nestas character development so much and i don’t mind spice very much and i like the similar day to day stuff for some reason lol

You should totally read the Faerie Tale Romance series by Hanna Sandvig! It’s a series of modern retellings of classic fairytales with ZERO SPICE, just sweet romance and plenty of witty banter! I could not stop laughing while reading them!
I highly recommend starting with the book The Rose Gate, it’s a retelling of Beauty and the Beast, it’s the first one I read and it’s sooooooo good!!! It was a 6 star read for me!

haley!!! because you love women's fiction with a romance, you should 100% read the collected regrets of clover by mikki brammer! i rated it a three stars but i was getting into a mini slump at the time, it was still a really good book! i've seen other book influencers rate it a five star, too, and it is definitely a book i think you'd love!!
I get reading slumps but I just watch one of her videos and it aotomaticly makes me want too read so bad
u got me back into reading and i’m SO glad because i learned that reading can be a lot more interesting than people make it out to be❤️

Haley, you should definitely check out ANY book by Nadine Brandes, especially Fawkes or Wishtress, I love her books and they are SOOO well written, Fawkes like... you can ACTUALLY FEEL how the character feels its so👌

Hey Haley! I too prefer no spice/closed door as it can make me quite uncomfortable when books are very graphic! I think it would be super helpful and much appreciated if you put started putting a spice level whenever you review books!
