This was an incredibly observant and sophisticated analysis. I’m British, but have lived in Canada for nearly 31 years. I’m coming back to the UK soon and I can’t wait x
I'm British and one of my favourite things about the UK is that it attracts wonderful people from all over the world. I live in a small town at present and I can walk through the main shopping area and hear six or seven languages in a few minutes. Each culture that joins us brings something special and makes us a better country.
hano verian Yes, self deprecation and 360 degree piss taking and freedom of speech. We were famous for these things, but now you can be fined or imprisoned for that in the UK. Conservative government? More like socialist overlords, and we all know where that leads.
Piss taking is what me and my friends do all the time but with no venom so no harm is being done but it's a great way to have fun and laugh at ones self.
Your way of speaking English is beautiful. One great thing is that we are able to benefit from people coming here from many places and adding to the richness of the country .... so i hope you will stay with us!
My favourite things that I missed about the UK when I was travelling: pubs, countryside, the complexity, individuality and vibrancy of the people, the culture and the freedom.
UK is simply amazing... I wish I lived there. The rainning and everything like that I can deal with, I love the rain and let's face it we have a looot of rain here in the North of portugal 😊 Hot days are the worse... although I enjoy going to the beach I just get dizzy and sweaty and that is the worse. About the food... well maybe ours is way better but you can live I guess 😊 And the gardens... the culure 😍 wow. AND THE LANGUAGE... like I just have an eargasm every time I hear british people talking
The woman in the video lives in Exeter, Devon. This is in the west of the UK where it does rain a lot. But further east it rains less. Any city will provide a variety of food.
It is so nice to hear a European having good things to say about England. Most of the time people are quite negative. I agree with most of what you say. I’m sure your attitude makes English people like you which always helps!
You are so lovely. I really appreciate all the positive things you say about my country. It really cheers me up to hear you being so complimentary about all the things I love too. Hope you continue to be happy here.
Brilliant - intelligent and observant and doesn't focus on the trivial (like so many travel vids do - esp from Americans) People like you are most welcome!
My you are a charmer ! For me being a Welsh man . What I like most is the countryside , the history and the language ( etymology ) . We have taken words from all over the world and adopted them into our language even yours ! I do hope you enjoy your time here and am able to travel around Britain and see more of it .
It's so nice that you enjoy so much about living in the UK. The countryside is beautiful and we have 140,000 miles of public footpaths so as nice as it is to see from the train there is a lot to explore 😀
I love your Vlog and thank you for loving my county. I am a Londoner and love my city as its so diverse, I also think the British have an unbelievable sense of humour, one that I love
That's an interesting list. Especially saying good things about the food and drink here (which can be terrible but yes, there's great stuff if you know where to seek it out). As a nation we are often pretty down on ourselves - especially lately. It's really encouraging to hear how others view the UK sometimes. As a Brit, one thing I'd add to your list that I always love and celebrate about the UK is our right, protection and access to our countryside. The vast network of footpaths and bridleways, many of which are afforded high levels of historic protection simply because someone used to drive some sheep down it three-hundred years ago. The large amounts of public owned space, including practically all our coastline. The right to roam. The reciprocal access to tracks across farmland, and the large protected areas looked after by charities such as the National Trust. I've travelled to many countries in the world with amazing nature and spectacular scenery, but few are as good at ensuring the public has wide-ranging, easy and protected access to that countryside as we do here. I'll forever love the UK for that.
What a lovely video. I’m from the West Country as well, near Bristol and cider drinkingis popular pastime particularly in local pubs. Thatchers Dry is to die for - gurt lush is the expression around here. By the way, the weather isn’t always wet or overcast!
Great video! Just happened to find your take on UK and I really enjoyed it. I have a nephew in Edinburgh so I've see a lot of these types of videos....you definitely have a unique point of view...thanks!
Fantastic video! As a Brit, what I like most about my country is the freedom to say and do what I want (within reason) and not get arrested. Oh, and about the weather: winter is grey and dull but summer can be lovely, just don't rely on it happening every year! You live in a wet part of the UK - the east is actually pretty dry by any standards. But saying that, Porto still gets nearly twice as much rain as Exeter :p
If you are still here then pop along to my friend Jeremy's place at Colaton Raleigh village stores and try some of his Woodsy's Ciders. Tell him that George sent you and you may get a tour of his (small) Cider making plant.
I'm so glad you are enjoying being here. It was nice to hear of your appreciation for the BBC. Please tell English people because I believe not enough of us appreciate how valuable it is. And if you want 'more interesting clouds' and less rain you will have to go inland. Near Exeter you have Dartmoor and as clouds come in from the sea, Dartmoor, being high, turns them into rain.
Some clarification On average it rains 1 day out of 3. But depends where you live. More so in north england/Scotland and 1 in 4 in south east. And on that third day the rain might be for 2 minutes or 12 hours -but on average somewhere in between. That said it can rain for days - or could be sunny and dry. Right now on 2nd July 2018 it has been sunny almost every day for 60 days straight now. The grass is burnt brown and the forests on fire.

I think that Portuguese and English people get on so well because we've been allies for 700 years, in fact, Portugal must be the only country in Europe that we haven't had a war with! I've always found people from your country extremely nice (except for that streak of saudade you all seem to have). Glad that you've enjoyed moving here, no country can ever have too many pretty girls.
I wonder whether we get on so well because we are allies or whether we are allies because we get on so well. Either way, there is no doubt that Portugal has always kept its promises to us and we have reciprocated. There is a lot to be said for a relationship based on mutual trust and respect.

Your command of the English language is superb. Great job.
I`m English and I love Portugal, Maybe there`s a good reason that England and Portugal have been allies for 500 years!
I find Portuguese people get our sense of humour, share many of our values and have a friendly, open attitude that never becomes overbearing.
