Kurt felt weird singing the songs without playing guitar. He was used to singing and playing guitar at the same time live, at band practice, at rehearsals, etc. So he sometimes, particularly during the In Utero sessions quietly strummed an acoustic as he sang while swigging from a bottle of cough syrup to try and preserve his voice. They had problems with him repeatedly blowing out his voice during the recording of Nevermind. As for the acoustics, You can't hear them on the final tracks as they're drowned out by the other guitars and drums. Any acoustic you hear on the record is recorded separately and certainly isn't as disjointed and ramshackle as the little acoustic you hear on this. Pat Smear didn't join the band until preparations to tour in support of the album were underway. After the album was finished. In fact, their last recording session was done mere months before Kurt died and they recorded you know you're right and a handful of noise jams as a three piece.
You can hear it at the very end of the full mix. Same at some points in Serve the Servants, Dumb, and Pennyroyal Tea, but it’s very very quiet and difficult to here
Kurt allegedly recorded an electric version of Do Re Mi with himself on drums, Pat on guitar and Eric Erlandson on bass. This would have been on the night of or immediately after the intervention.
DannyTrojanSkin McGregor Kurt cobain would make the melody/music before the lyrics of the song. He thought the words should go with the music like "Memoriaaaa" from come as you are. It kinda explains why it's hard to understand what he's saying at times. Because of that I switch between the 3 version i stated before. I know what it's supposed to be but i prefer to switch between them.
There actually was a fourth member in Nirvana (Pat Smear), at least for touring. Kurt did say they would've loved to have him be a permanent addition ,but time ran out.
I wish they would've brought that acoustic guitar up in the final studio mix. Brings a really poppy, Beatles-y effect to the song. It's buried so far down in the original release that it's nearly inaudible.
has anybody ever noticrd that the music that changes the world and the most remembered are not from people that learn music in school or take vocal lessons.
i think what you are talking about is the echo effect the record producer used with this album. if i remember correctly kurt had the mic in front of him. another mic was like 10 ft. away. and another like 15 ft. away. thats what creates the kurt echo on this entire album.
One version of in utero was mixed by Scott litt (REM) and Steve Albini (who recorded pixies). DGC released more of the cleaned up Litt recordings. (Out of preference to them.) This ,I believe is albinis
I'm assuming that because Steve Albini preferred the whole band together then you can't separate the vocals on some tracks. This and Heart-Shaped Box were re-mixed by Scott Litt. And Very Ape had an extra track put down.
Perhaps "Heart Shaped Box" along with "Rape Me" Those were the other two songs put onto Rock Band from that album. (I'm assuming that he got this from there as well.)
Hey, dude. All I was asking was if it all was done in one take, as in Kurt playing guitar while singing for the vocal take in the song. I don't think I'm alone in saying I've never heard an acoustic guitar prominently in the track and thought it was just Kurt singing unaccompanied.
jooohhhn12122121 the backing instrumental is coming from most likely his headphones and Kurt is playing an acoustic while singing because he was always more comfortable playing while singing
Siavash Massoudi this. He played a small acoustic because he liked strumming something while playing. It's basically inaudible on the album. He did for a few songs. You can clearly hear during the verse it's not the same verse as usual.

I play this when I'm taking a shower... It's like Kurt is singing and playing his guitar for me in the bathroom.
LMAO YOURE LITERALLY ME
SEXY!!!!!!!!!!
Women are weird.... They turn taking a fucking shower in to some weird experience. I just wanna get clean. Takes me 5 minutes. In and out.
That's why you're single dude.
beingsshepherd single but surprisingly clean :)
I was 19 when Kurt died. Nirvana was the reason I learned to play guitar and play in bands. His music still hits me in the heart 25 years later.
Same here. The reason i sing and play guitar. Kurt was an authentic soul.
Same here dude. I saw him when I was14 years and I knew what I wanted to do. Play the guitar and sing in a band!

Justin Vavala I feel the same way. keeps your hands busy, plus it's just cooler :)
Right after 'you know you're right' you said and a handful of other tracks. Besides 'doe re mi' what are the others, if you don't mind me asking.
on 'drain you nulle part ailleurs' when he throws his guitar you can kinda see that he feels awkward without his guitar
You can hear it at the very end of the full mix. Same at some points in Serve the Servants, Dumb, and Pennyroyal Tea, but it’s very very quiet and difficult to here

Listening to this made me realize how much I miss his voice.
Whether it's "All in all is all we are" or "All alone is all we are" he was a voice of a generation of abstract expressionists.
Whenever i sing it i switch between "All in all is all we are", "All alone is all we are" and "All I know is i'll be gone"
it's all in all is all we are. its a play on words.

Bardock Uchiha ok
Bardock Uchiha I know all about how kurt wrote. I grew up with nirvana when they were around. I miss those days.
There actually was a fourth member in Nirvana (Pat Smear), at least for touring. Kurt did say they would've loved to have him be a permanent addition ,but time ran out.

Especially on the demo version from the 2013 reissue
The acoustic is his picked from his vocal mics, he liked playing something when he played that's why you cant hear it that well
Steven Kaminski - Yeah I’ve watched that interview with Steve Albini where he talks about that.
I hear the Beatles in this song as an influence, especially John Lennon with vocals. My favorite singer.
If you haven't already, check out ''About a Girl'', from their first album ''Bleach''.
The Lennon influence is so obvious here.
If you haven’t already, Recommend people a popular song from a popular band and act as if it’s obscure, from I’m a pompous dick

Such a beautiful voice >.
All in all is all we are.
This is easily one of my top videos I have encountered on this site.
*ANYWHERE.
this was beautiful sound like hes playing the acoustic along to it.
Oh man, I miss you terribly
I love the acoustic down underneath it all. I never even knew it was there.
That first time he sings "ALL" gets me every time
One of my favorite Nirvana songs
I feel like I'm listening to him sing behind a closed door. Very good though! :D Two thumbs up from me
This version sounds almost happy :)
Dave's harmonies! Fantastic!
1:46 It sounds like Dave's drums are bleeding into Kurt's mic from the other room if you listen closely. So cool
has anybody ever noticrd that the music that changes the world and the most remembered are not from people that learn music in school or take vocal lessons.
You cant teach heart and soul.
Thank you so much
This song makes me smile!

damnnnnnn thanks for that!
the harmonies are Kurt as well, not Dave. Listen to the gravel, it's unmistakable.
Replying to a comment 8 years later but yeah anyone else that’s reading this, all the harmonies on In Utero is Kurt not Dave.
Tourette's must be fucking amazing
Pat smear was not on the recording of in utero. He came after release. It's a multi track layer of kurt on acoustic .then kurt on electric
All Apologies (acoustic version) - With the Lights Out [Disc 3]
He was saying "all in all is all we all are" - which is the actual manta
"All in all is all we all are"

damn that small room reverb is pretty cool. does anyone know what Waves Plugin Steve Albini used when he was recording Kurt in Pro Tools?
Yes to this
Did u ever find out
are there any other vocal tracks of in utero available? Would love to hear Tourette's accapella, or milk it, radiofriendly unit shifter.... etc.
The Very Ape vocal track is on youtube, it's in the related videos... a Radio Friendly Unit Shifter one would be amazing.
wish they would have turned it up in the final mix
one chord. fuckin genius!

aqua seafoam is a shade of blue, so i guess it means hes sad and feels shame.
Does anyone know how to mimic this reverb in any DAW?
Rest easy Steve!
can do you do this with ''serve the servants''? If not can you tell how did you do this?
sorry i can't do that, these are just rockband or guitar hero files
YES YOU CAN DO THIS .. I HAVE SERVE THE SERVANTS ON MY UA-cam CHANNEL
Can you upload all the missing tracks of this song? (Drums, Bass, etc) please
I miss Kurt 💔
I kinda agree.
This can't be from the in utero version because of the guitar has that strumming chord sound and not the alternate picking?
ding dong the link is dead
So, is Kurt playing the acoustic guitar and singing?
Hello to you too. Still flaming random pages?
not exactly "vocals only," but it's great!
Lol, how is that case??
You can hear guitar in the background. I mean, it is vocals only but you can hear other things too.
jooohhhn12122121 the backing instrumental is coming from most likely his headphones and Kurt is playing an acoustic while singing because he was always more comfortable playing while singing

Would you be able to do a Come As You Are vocals only? I've been looking every where for one but I can't find one :/

no there was a secret fourth member in nirvana
Aqua seafoam shame probably does refer to his depression, but it also sounds like "I precede from shame," so it could deal with how he sees himself.
He says, "I'll proceed from shame..." Wtf is Aqua seafoam shame? How does that even make sense? What does that even have to do with depression? 😂
Aqua seafoam shame was in In Utero's booklet, actually (even if was probably a joke)
@@ameersbeih6777 my dude it's right there turn it up he says aqua there is a hard q
what does he mean by 'aqua sea foam shame'?... was is just ment to sund like 'i can see from shame'?

Not really vocals only tbf. Awesome still
Is he saying "All alone is all we all are"?
Yes
close, but he is saying, “all in all is all we are”
