Japanese Grammar Analysis - Nihongo Picnic Podcast Ep 125. 小学校の運動会 - part 1 of 2

An analysis of the grammar of every sentence in a Japanese language podcast (125. 小学校の運動会).
If you have corrections, let me know in comments.
I intend to do more of this on a regular basis, though in future I will probably pick only 4-5 interesting sentences from the source material instead of going through every sentence. (Doing every single sentence turns out to take many hours of recording and editing, and not every sentence is super interesting.)

About the difference between は and が, the way I think about it is は marks the overall topic of the conversation going forward, whereas が marks other subjects in the sentence that's not necessarily the main topic. Usually は introduces a new thing or concept into the conversation, while が simply marks things that the speaker want's to add information to / thoughts about. A simple example conversation:
Person A: リンゴはどうおもいますか？　(what do you think about apples?) Apple is introduced in the conversation here, and the speaker probably wants the conversation's topic to be about apples.
Person B: リンゴが美味しいし、色が綺麗だと思います。 (I think apples are tasty, and their color is beautiful) Person B introduces the subject 色 meaning color, but he doesn't necessarily want that to be the topic of the conversation going forward, he's just adding information to the already established subject apple.
Like you say however, in everyday conversation people don't necessarily adhere to this and most of the time I actually find people omit the use of は and が altogether.
