loved this video and came at the exact right time- I am retiring and going through my closet and just donated approx 75% of my work wardrobe... like you said, there are items left that I have not worn for 3 years. you have given me the courage to go and donate the rest of my work clothes. BTW you look fabulous in pink :)
Hi Sheila! I used to be a compulsive shopper. For years I had clothes with tags I never wore. I would get buyer's remorse but would continue the same shopping patterns. When some drastic changes happened to my finances, this behavior stopped. I got in the habit of only buying what I needed and made sure that I absolutely loved that item of clothing, shoes or accessories before I headed to the checkout. I have been shopping like this for about 5 years now and I am very happy with what my closet looks like now. These are great tips you gave today! As you said, you have to look at how and why you are buying these items. So true! You look so pretty in pink and your necklace is beautiful!
Great advice as usual! I actually had one exception to the “I’ll use it when I’m smaller” never happening. I had my eye on a pair of gorgeous light blue suede pants ❤, when they went on sale (they were still expensive) I did not hesitate. They were a size smaller and it took me two years to fit in them! But it happened🎉.
Great advice! This is a project I’m tackling, so appreciate your step by step method. So good to see another video by you! You’re looking wonderful and I pray you’re getting better every day! Still praying for you! ❤️🙏🏻
Great advice. You've opened my eyes! It was tough to hear but spot on. Now I know the reason I have a closet full of clothes that I don't wear and I can avoid it in the future! Thank you so much.
I found it tough to listen to this video but it is very helpful. I agree: It truly is important to know why we buy clothes and then don't/cannot wear them. Because of the guilt that causes I often find it difficult to think about the reasons, but it will help me in the long run. Thank you for your advice
Sheila, I am an Associate at an upscale retailer and many women shop in a panic for a special event, vacation clothes, or a funeral or memorial service. If you shop when you have time and plan ahead you won't have things in your closet you don't wear. Those panic purchases are often things women buy because they need them right away rather than choosing things that fit and are flattering.
Thanks Sheila....I find I buy on sale stuff too often & when I'm trying it on it looks good. A few weeks later I may think "oh I'll wear that too" then I think whatever possessed me to buy it! I have just recently done a big cull of my wardrobe & try & buy things that I need when I recognise I need a particular item. I have in the past purchased items that look good on someone else, I don't do that anymore. At 64 I'm buying for my petite frame.
Thank you for this, I never questioned why I buy somethings. I've realized I buy because it's on sale or I have a coupon and it's a deal. I usually don't wear those items because I don't have a purpose for those items. Again, thank you, these questions made me realize some things about myself!!
Sheila, your tips are so helpful. My current strategy for decluttering my wardrobe of clothes I haven't worn for years is this: if it suits the occasion, I either have to wear it, or discard it. Just this weekend I've removed three dresses and two tops as I realised I really do not want to wear them any more. PS Your new look is fabulous. So elegant. 🌟
Good morning Sheila! I’m from Canada 🇨🇦 it’s so good to see you back! This is a great reminder! I gained wait and I have a hard time getting rid of some of my dresses and skirts 😢
Lovely, where in Canada? You don't have to get rid of them right away if you've gained weight recently or if it's difficult to do. Put them somewhere out of your closet and give it a few months.
Hi Sheila, love the video and helpful tips. I have learned to remove items of clothing that were taking up space and I was not wearing. It is so freeing to do this. I have learned so much from your videos, thank you and you look fabulous in your pink colors. 🥰

So helpful! I bought two Puffer vests last fall that fit correctly the colors were great and I couldn't wait to wear them when the weather turn colder. However the first time I wore one I noticed that it was making a swishing sound up near my ear that I found annoying. I tried it again another day and same thing. Needless to say never took the tags off the other one or even more them again. However when I went to take it, back it was too late. Now I see it's ridiculous that they're still hanging in my closet LOL I need to donate them ASAP and other items as well. Thank you for the wake-up call!

I recently lost weight and all of my dresses and tops are too big. I have to remove them and just by a few classic pieces in my new size. I have clothes in my closet from the 90’s in size 6 . They have returned in color and style .

Thanks you very much for this video and the thoughts you made me get about why I have so much clothes I don't wear. My "problem" is that I buy too much pretty elegant clothes. They all are very stylish and fit me very well. I love everything I own because I feel pretty when I look in the mirror with them on me. BUT.... most of them I can wear only on special occasions. And I don't have much, that means my clothes are worn sometimes only a very few times. I work from my home, I don't have much social activities and when I go out with my husband in a restaurant I love to wear my elegant outfits but I have much more outfits possibilities to wear than occasions... I am sad, that I am not anymore working at a office like I did. Then I used to dress every day another nice outfit. But I can't anymore unfortunately...😔 I still enjoy everytime I go outside to wear something I love, even if it' s just for an hour 😊 My problem is that I love too much good elegant style and everything I buy and love suits me too well 😉 and it's not casual enough for my real lifestyle.
I understand completely. I suppose if you look at the positives - you always look great, you always have something to wear and you'll never be stuck with a special occasion and nothing to wear, that might make having all those wonderful clothes seem better. Sometimes if you look you might find events that you wouldn't have known about. I know this is true for me, if I don't actively search for 'what's going on' I don't know about it - usually.

It sounds like you already have an eye for your own colours, since you notice you are going cooler. Simply holding up garments in different colours to your face, and noticing how they make you look and feel, may help you decide what still looks good on you, and what hues feel too overpowering. Adding some tops or scarves in somewhat cooler, softer colours, can help you 'fade into' your softening palette. Perhaps explore some teal/turquoise for a new top? Coral/watermelon may also be a softer choice than some of your classic autumn choices. Maybe put aside your warmest mustards and golden browns. With a few tweaks, I'm sure you can still keep a lot of your existing warderobe, while bringing in just a few new colours/hues, for some new exciting combinations.

I keep it because he bought it for me
It's quite heavy and takes up a lot of space in my small portion of our closet 😞
What do you think you'll do, are you going to wear it? Or, not wear it but keep it because he gave it to you?
Thrift shop. Please😊
You look great.
Thank you ❤
HI SHEILA Thank you for information. new friend Connie :)
Welcome Connie, my new friend.
You look lovely in that shade of pink.
How are you doing?
Thank you! I'm feeling really good.

I buy Clothes because I like them when I see them and then I just don’t get to wear them
Are you buying really fancy clothes?
@@StylebySheila no. I’m guilty of buying some trend pieces that I end up not wearing
If my weight would stop fluctuating, I would buy less clothes 🙁
Weight fluctuation certainly creates a need for more clothes.
If you have brighter colour hair you don't need so much makeup on your face.
