Whoa whoa whoa hold the phone... I am a member of worship and praise. For your information, James Hall teaches at Berkley, therefore he is a professor. The way we dress happens to be our style, if you don't like it, stop looking at our videos, thanks great!
@couturesixfour I wasn't specific. I meant to say that typically, James Hall uses the higher registers for dramatic effect. Of course, not all higher-registers must be sung using the style of belting, but in the case of W&P, it seems that it is used to conjur a gospelic -- as opposed to an operatic -- effect. However, once again, we can speculate as to which technique they're using to get that effect, but one can't really know, unless you he or she were there when W&P was being trained.
Great observations... Any group has to be careful to retain pitch accuracy and listen to the neighboring voices through the added dynamics [in order to blend well throughout a song]. I'm with you; because I still love it too. LOL!
@couturesixfour This is true. One of the things that is lacking in modern choral performances -- and you mentioned this before -- is listening to your "neighbor". I remember a choir director always telling us that. Many times performers get wrapped up in their own technique and form and haven't been trained to listen, to make sure that the tone is blended with the others in their section.
I think they sound great!!! the sound has changed though. and so have some of the singers who had the brilliant sound we remember! But they are still WAP....sing WAP!!!!
@couturesixfour I agree with you, here, about the tenors softening the tone a bit. I think that sometimes Hall seems to pick his strongest performers to do smaller venues, and it seems that the microphoning was a bit uneven as well. Sound guys/girls can sometimes ruin a great performance. Lol
Well, I was the one holding the camera and said "my hand was hurting" and "you're singing washington" and that is her name. She in my opinion is one of the BADDEST sopranos...PERIOD!
LOL! SAINTS... Yall are funnyLOL! WAP has been my fav for YEARS. They r DOPE! I just cant get with the gear half the time. In this vid, it looks like costumes. My mind goes back to Im gonna get you sukka when the midgets were hiding under the hats. LMBO Had to get that out. They still sound good. WAP helped change the game. Between James' writing, and John peters and Reggie Young... The GREATEST COMBINATION. Gospel needs to thank them three in particular. James needs to thank Richard Smallwood.
@couturesixfour How can you know that from watching a video? You can't "know" what technique a singer is using unless you've followed them IN PERSON and witnessed how they were trained. It depends on the individual. Some of these choir members, it's my understanding, have been with W&P for a very long time, and it doesn't seem as if their voices have been destroyed, as you say. The higher registers are meant to sound dramatic, and not necessarily operatic.
@AveryIam It actually does have everything to do with it. You just haven't realized it yet, but that's okay. You'll come around in time, and if you don't, that's okay, too. That old, crusty belief system will just stay to the wayside and whither away while the new emergent church moves forward with God's message of love. Simple as that.
@couturesixfour I have to respectfully disagree. It seems that you are referring to style, not technique. W&P, Ricky Dillard and others use "belting" as a style or "sound", but one can only speculate as to what techniques they're using to arrive at that sound because you are not there with them. Also, singing "on the air", in my experience, refers to using a certain technique to get to a certain breathy, almost yawning form or sound. I've never heard that being used to refer a general technique.
@cosmicviewer477 So are you saying that only the things "Jesus" specifically spoke is what we should obey..and everything else negate? Do you believe Jesus speaks through people? How do you justify/interpret Corrinthians 6:9? There's a reason why it says "Do not be deceived...."God knew this day would come when what he HATES would "seemingly" become normal and acceptable.. (smh)
@loowkeye Where does it say that being gay is a sin? Also, who judges effeminate behavior? I know that men from certain cultures would be considered effeminate by American standards and vice versa. The challenge with Conservative Christianity is that it fails to speak about the Bible as it is revealed in modern times. This is why I believe that emergent Christianity will continue to grow because I strongly believe that the Holy Spirit has a new annointing for God's people.
First!!! Notice in my message I was just Curious to know. A person with so much knowledge I would think surely would have worked on something or working on something. You put a very bold statement up here but you don't have to be defensive with everyone!!!! I asked a simple question that's all!! Second,WHO ARE YOU REFERENCING THAT "CHURCH GURL" COMMENT TO?? BECAUSE I DEF AM NOT A GURL!!!!!
@cosmicviewer477 It's not that he's not coming back for gay people....because God does love them, but He Hates their sin... The bible also lists several characteristics of people who will NOT enter Heaven....one of which are gay/effeminate...
@loowkeye How can expression through music be gay? That doesn't even make any sense. Also, where does it say that Jesus isn't returning for gay people?
@cosmicviewer477 So are you comparing homosexuality (a spirit thats against God) to wearing pants (tradition, and something the CHURCH is against)? Its one thing If only AVERY said that homosexuality is not of God, then your point would be valid. However, this is something said by GOD in HIS word. Youre comparing apples to carrots. Yes God's love should be spread and thats the message, but we should be Holy and if we arent the bible says without it NO MAN shall see The Lord, Not in peace anyway.
@AveryIam Um... Christianity has always changed to match modern times. Otherwise, it wouldn't be around today. I hope women in your church don't wear pants because that was considered a no-no just a few decades ago. Christianity HAS to change or it will become obsolete.
Third rightly dividing the truth is referring to the bible!! Not people's opinions on a particular subject. Even if you have all the schooling!!! Let's not use the scriptures out of context just to try to prove our point.
Now you mention about a new anointing, but we must remember that Jesus is the SAME yesterday, today, and forever. Immutable, so therefore we must not take situations of our own and try to change it to match the "newness" of today's society. I dont call that Conservative, I call it being HOLY, and IF we are to be a reflection of God then we must not pamper the fact of homosexuality. Yes people are gifted to do things and God uses who He wants, but gifts and callings are without repentance.
@cosmicviewer477 Sir, The New anointing has nothing to do with the homosexuality. The Bible talks about in numerous scriptures about that spirit being an abomination to God. I do believe homosexuality is wrong, just like I believe fornication with a male and female that are NOT married is wrong. Does God love homosexuals? Yes He does. Does He love the spirit of homosexuality? NO He does Not. Those who make it seem that God is for it, theyre totally wrong and against the Will of God.
Man oh man! You need to stop being so defensive!! I just asked a question not trying to be smart I was really curious to know, But I guess because other people attacked you you thought I was attacking you, But I just wanted to know. 2) again that scripture is very open to truth, but you do not have the truth you voiced your opinion. 3) I think the Church girl term is very disrespectful! Because gurls aren't the only ones in church, That's in the same boat and the N word to me!
Look at you using a dictionary! *Applauds you again.* And yes, I knew what you were referring to with that erroneous "milk drinker" statement. Please, tell me: what does the Bible say about homosexuality? "No shade"?! I've seen and heard that phrase used by nearly all of my students of that orientation. Here's a thought: before you point out the faults in others, make sure your own house is right.

@spursfan4life RIGHT!! Maybe because I was only born in NY and not raised is the reason why I cnt get dwn wit it!! lol

Hey couturesixfour when is your album coming out? Just curious to know.
i just have one question
where do they get they're hats?
@couturesixfour How can you know that from watching a video? You can't "know" what technique a singer is using unless you've followed them IN PERSON and witnessed how they were trained. Sing Zipporah!
When they held great 1:20
bcuz they purchased them that big!!?? :) @afya07
oh okay
@nett1eb Well, that has more to do with the quality of the video and not the actually singing, it seems.
Oh, I guess you told him!
@AveryIam It actually does have everything to do with it. You just haven't realized it yet, but that's okay. You'll come around in time, and if you don't, that's okay, too. no sadly!
Spooky
