hey Evan, I have always admired people who can draw and I myself could barely draw stick figures but for Christmas I got a cpl gift cards so I bought a how to book on cartoons and some pencils and a sketch pad and the book wasn't quite what I expected so I jumped on UA-cam and stumbled upon your videos and you sir are nothing short of AMAZING! and I found out I can draw(with your help) a lot better than I ever thought! so thank you and I love your explanatins, you are easy to understand and I just drew the superhero head, torso, and hand holding the gun and can't wait to watch more! Thanks bro you are an inspiration to me to keep at it and get better!
U are the only other person I've ever heard compare sketching to sculpting. That is exactly how I treat my sketches. U do great work by the way.
I am a 3d modeler and animator and yes sketching can be compared to sculpting
Just wanted to say thanks for sharing your tips and how you draw with the different pencils. I’ve been using red and blue pencils for a while and love using them, but seeing how you used the side of the red pencil for rough ideas of the pose and character, etc has been revolutionary for me. I’ve started trying that method and it’s helped a lot! Thanks a lot, and keep up the good work!!
ever since i watched your "how to" videos my drawings have skyrocketed in detail, proportion and shape. thanks so much dude.
Hey, thanks for the "look, I just think it looks cool" comment about the blue Col-Erase. I get so obsessed about Doing Things the Right Way (TM) that sometimes I forget "_I_ like how it looks" is a pretty valid reason for things.
that sketch was so cool!!!! good job on the lining!!! i sketch with regular color pencils blue because i like blue, a eraser, and #2 pencils, and mechanical pencils, also crayons
Great work. I appreciate your words and talent.
EVAN, YOU REACHED YOUR GOAL ON YOUR SKECTHBOOK!!! IM SO HAPPY!
Love watching you draw. I typically sketch with HB or a 0.5 lead pencil. I use a Hy-polymer eraser on sketches too, unless I plan on inking it, I use a mead eraser since it doesn't carry smear or carry oils.
this guy's videos are just awesome and very informative. you've rekindled my passion for drawing.
I like blue too, and you have realy inspired me to keep drawing and doing what i love so thanx evan you'r the man.
I use reeves drawing pencils, some prisma eraseable pencils (what ever color of the moment) and ink pens. Good luck with the book, your doing a great job!
I really love the way this character turned out ^ ^ great job. And that electric eraser looks very useful when dealing with small detailed areas that need to be erased. I might just get one xP
One again, you bring us the finest tunes!
I use
6H pencils for structuring the sketch
HB Pencils to darken the lines
and B pencils to finalize the sketch and sign the sketch to
I also use Pentel clic erasers to erase minor mistakes, and I use regular erasers to erase bigger things and i use a 9 x 12 inch strathmore sketchbook.
Ok, all these tools videos are hitting my checkbook! Lol. Great tips!
That's awesome that you showed us your tools that you use
Amazing stuff here man. I am an artist also and I draw off and on. If I had shading skills like yours, I would be legendary!
love the positive personality ♥
I just wanted to double check in incase I have to wait. I don't want this book to get out of stock! I'm so excited for it!
I used to sketch with the col-erase pencils myself, but then i bought a 2mm lead pencil and fell in love with the size and feel of it. Though drawing in graphite proved to be boring, and i'm not a fan of non-photo blue lead (except on backgrounds) . But visiting my favorite art supplier, i found they made carmine red 2mm lead. Now i'm a happy camper
When I do my drawings I sometimes use the cool ease pencils, 5mm mechanical pencil with HB lead, and there are times I like to use my pens to draw. I do have a gel pen and there are times I like to use it for highights or for certain things I see people wearing.
Sketch out light with a 2H and then HB mechanical pencil for more line, some tone. I like the putty eraser too! :D also love taking a blending tool to some 7B or 8B pencil!
The illustration is excellent; I really like your drawing style with the sharp edges. My weapons of choice is the Pentel Graph Gear 1000 0.3 HB and A Paper Mate Tuff Stuff retractable eraser stick.
I use just like pentel twist erase mechanical pencils, Pigma Microns, faber castell brush pen, sakura gelly roll white
And for coloring I use prismacolor colored pencils and markers. The Sketch&Wash is also cool
Nicely done:) when I draw one my anime characters, I simply use a pencil, a mechanical pencil for final lines, my sakura micron pigma inking pens, then I color with copics or colored pencils:)
I usually use what ever pencil I have around, then I use my eraser pencil thing (which is like an electric eraser because it can erase small spaces), and then my hi-polymer eraser too.
I like using a 3H, H, B, and 2B pencils a kneaded eraser and a polymer eraser. The 3H gives very light lines that I use to build the character I use the H for defined details I give some spots a hit with the B to give them a shadowy effect and the 2B for shading. Next time I'm at the art store I'm defiantly going to pick up some red a blue pencils they look like fun to draw with and I'd enjoy some colour in my sketches!
dude I like ur drawings so cool and awesome u knowthat u inspire me
Hello even I’ve been a fan from you channel for a while I’ve started a comic design that I’m hoping that will be able to be published when I’m older but I just want you to know you inspired me to design my comic by my own mind to creat it thank you to teaching us 😁.
I appreciate the support!
Nice! I use lead pencil , all the same lead but different sizes . 0.9, 0.7 , 0.5 , and 0.3. I wanted to get a 1.3 since I tried it before, my art teacher has one. I do use different color leads, too. I even tried out using gel and ballpoint pens. They are all fun to use!
I mostly sketch with col erase red and a 2h pencil when i have one. i like to use my rapidogaphs to ink.the col erase makes it easy to scan in clean looking line work.thoug i like the red look too.
I mostly use a mechanical pencil 0.5. Your drawings are awesome!
Tbh i use pens mostly black, blue, and red but i just got back to using pencils because sometimes (and this might sound dumb but...) the graphite on the pencil sounds like chalk on a chalk board and it makes me shiver for some reason and cringe, but i have been drawing my whole life and im just getting back used to it
There's only 10 hours left for you to pledge to get the sketchbook. Hurry! Time's running out. Link in description:)
I use a hb pencil with an eraser and I use a 3B pencil to shade it, I use a Sakura micron pigma pen to outline and I use Faber Caste
I sketch with my Reyes 4H pencil, HB pencil, and my kneaded eraser. To make really thin lines i use my 0.7 or 0.5 lead pencils. Mostly 0.5 because of my style of drawing light on paper need some darkening most times
Thanks for the continued support. Now we're working toward the stretch goal $15k stretch goal, so everyone can get FREE stickers.
you rock bro awesome video
I mostly sketch with a good hb pencil ive been finding some hb pencils are made with cheap wood which sometimes breaks the lead I also use mechanical pencils known as flexfit other than that there are fine point markers there always fun to sketch with and charcoal pencils fun to sketch with to ^^
I usually use, my col-erase blue pencils (for the same exact reason as you hahaha), my HB pencil, my 2B pencil, sometimes my 2H pencil, my kneaded eraser, and sometimes I use my inking set to ink a drawing
basically hb pencil, but now im using woodless pencils, white eraser and the kneaded eraser. i want to start draing comics again, so im going to try out the rec and blue col-erase.
I sketch mostly with a HB pencil to make the more finished lines, A 2B pencil to do my rough sketch and a blackpen (here we call it a mapping pen) to do all the inking, an eraser and sharpener. So that is what i use and i do pretty well with that but i wish to buy more pencils and get markers to save more time cause mine take hours to finish. But that is what i use to draw :)
I use a HB #2 led pencil because I like to make my sketches and finished copies in black and white but you are starting to make me use red and blue more and it does help if your trying to difine the picture more than shade and blend
Thank you very much... Great video Cheers...
HB pencil, kneaded eraser, prismacolor pencils and lining pens, and copic markers.
Awesome Sketch! I would join in with the KickStarter but I need that money for college right now. Oh and I usually draw with a pen ( that is not a ballpoint) but lately I've just been using a .5 mechanical pencil and an eraser :3
Great! Drawing I'm gonna practice that one...
I use
Crayola eraser color pencils for sketching, micron pens,Prisma Color pencil, regular eraser, and a sketch book that is 9 ×12
Love it, looks great. I like the contrast of the cool-erase blue and red and I have picked up some of them and a green because I like green, to try and sketch with. Love using the,. But I find that I always go back to my standard of 2H, H, and finish with F. I know hard leads, but I find I have a heavy hand, and using an HB or softer tends to get my page all smudged and dark looking and then I can not find the lines I want. Ah well. works for me right. Later. Have Fun!!
Now that's cool!!
i use a 7mm or 5mm Sumogrip mechanical pencil, a small, precise e eraser that kind of works like a mechanical pencil, a black prismacolor pencil for d darkening in in some areas, and the kneeded eraser.
awesome vid, thanks for tips
I use a bic #2 0.7mm mechanical pencil. They are great for fine detail but smudge a lot. I always have black fingers when I am done sketching. Love your art by the way. I have used many of your tutorials to help with my own work. Keep em comin.
The lead in a bic is standard 2hb you can buy H or B lead separately. If you want fine fine detail .5 or maybe .3 can be found by bic. The H leads are more silvery denser and faint and take time to wear , B is much softer and darker more easily smudged, alternatively you could even sharpen a red or blue colored pencil and do pre sketch forms to get a base concept down before hitting a pencil. Also to stop smudge just use a sheet of printer or tracing paper under the drawing hand.
Hey Evan, I see this is from last year I went to Amazon and couldn't find your book, how can i get book, and can i get a
peep inside to see what kind of art is in there that you did
I tend to use a basic Bic #2 mechanical pencil with 0.7 mm lead, a kneaded eraser, Mark crilley's trust black primsacolor colored pencil, and pigma pens to ink. I also draw digitally using a wacom splash bamboo tablet and photoshop. It's an outdated version though.
I use a non photo blue pencil to start with and use a 2h pencil. I use a kneadable eraser or eraser stick to get in the tight spots. Eventually I want to start using the red col eraser pencils, as well as copic markers to just add on to what I do.
hey hey hey i told you on pay day i pledge!! just pledge cant wait to see the book!
Also. I would love to get your book. Im not sure how all of this is going or if its even still going on. but I want to check it out.
#2 pencil, pink eraser and 5mm lead mech pencil. I also put an eraser topper on the #2 pencil.
i sketch with what ever i lay my eyes on first lol. but i sketch very sketchy lol n only erase when i have a major mistake, but i found a more precise end result with a blue pencil like the cool erase blue for initial guidelines.
I love how you draw
I start with a regular pencil then I use a HB pencil to make the lines darker
AWESOME!!
Evan... YOU TEACH ME MILLION TIMES MORE WITH ONE VID THEN MY DRAWING TEACHER!
I usually use a mechanical pencils or drafting same dif mostly 0.5 or 0.3 anyway its mostly HB lead but I've been trying different types of lead.
I use a 2 b 4b and 6b pencil and also a sharpie for the outline then use copic markers to colour dem
2mm. Mechanical pencil for the rough. A 0.9mm mechanical pencil for big lines. A 0.4mm (or 0.3) for fine details. Kneaded eraser and a white staedler eraser. I use a non photo blue pencil occasionally if I'm feeling fancy lol. And if i ink i use sigma micron pens
I use a hb 2 mech-pencil, red and blue cool-erase and a black fountain pen
Blue is a special collor that drawners usually use because, after nanquim and the scanning process, the drawner can take off the drawning the blue collor on Photoshop. So thats it, ull only can see the nanquim. =D
I sketch with pencils usually. I like really soft pencils it just feels right.
I sketch with:
kuru toga .3mm pencil
Col erase pencils
Uni Mitsubishi 2mm lead holder with f lead
Copic multiliners
I usually sketch with a mechanical pencil. I just like the sharpness of it and like you said I don't have to sharpen it. I do like to use a regular pencil for shading because I think mechanical pencils are to sharp to do shading. :)
I use 0.7mm Pilot mechanical pencil and either faber castle or stabilo erasers
I only used an HB pencil and rubber eraser to sketch with. Don't waste $ on sketchbooks...use inkjet paper which is bright and good weight for sketching.
I like to use a mechanical pencil (blue lead) to sketch. Then I have a smaller mechanical pencil to fine tune the lines. And I use maru, g, and kabura pen nibs to ink. With pilot ink.
I used to start with just an regular HB then I got into using lighter tones like 2H..Now I just use a reg Mechanical saves on stress in finding a good pencil sharpener
I sketch with my 0.5 mechanical pencil with my orange lead and sometimes blue or red then i refine it with my fine point sharpie
Hi, I really enjoy ur drawing do have any advice for a new starter in drawing comic characters?
nice zod drawing and i use 5 prismacolor primier pens and #2 pencil
The book is awsome i love
Evan, you and the other UA-cam Artists should do a livestream with fans, it'd be pretty cool
I use whatever pencil's near by; mainly mechanical because when you're drawing in class you'll need something that looks like a pen X3.
I am Happy I found u on UA-cam and yes sketching is sculpting to me too thank u Even. by the way what do I use for sketching ? HB pencil or H pencil or non photo blue pencil
Hb pencil green prisma color pencil and kneaded eraser
Hb and 2b pencil, copic multiliners and eraser
Leadholder with a HB and non photo blue lead, F, 2B pencils, blue color erase pencil, pentel color pen fine point, copic sketch, watercolors
I use a mix grade set of the Palomino Orange graphite pencils, these are amazing and have such a vibrant feel to them, anyone else use these??
Man over they years its been a lot of different tools. Right now I've settled on for mechanical pencils in different sizes (.03mm-.07mm) and different weights (4Hb-4B). I've tried the color pencil method want as effective for me, since most of my work runs up with some kind of marker I also block in shading with cool and eastern grey markers from 10%-30%.
Your book must be amazing... :)
Hb pencil, staedtler mech pencil, col erase any colors, needed eraser, and other erasers
I use Ticonderoga #2 pencils, because they have smooth lead, and are HB's. Also, I can switch from drawing to writing, when I doodle in class... XD
Ball point pen for the most part. I just love getting bold lines with just one stroke.
I like to sketch with the col-erase colored pencils ALLLLL THE COLORS!!!!, graphite colored pencils, and sharpie pens.
Very cool
Paper: Canson mixed media paper or post it notes.
Pencils: Sakura 127 mechanical pencil and Ticonderoga blue pencil
Pens: Pigma Microns
Markers: TOUCH twin brush markers
col erase is easy to erase and is light also is made for sketching and construction lines.a normal red colored pencil will not erase easily and is much darker.
amazon, ebay, you're local art store. Really anywhere where they sell art supplies + its really cheap at art stores (though not on amazon)
When I was in college, my art professor made us draw ONLY with a ball point pen. He didn't want us wasting time erasing. It forced us to start light & gradually put down darker lines. It actually was a great teaching technique.
