Sorry for getting back to you so late. make sure you loosen up those tightening knobs that you installed on the cross bars, then get a flat head screw driver or something small enough to push those tabs in on the rails that keep the cross bars from going back. So As Your Pushing In Those tabs with a screwdriver use your other hand to pop the crossbar back. hope this helps.
Yup them cross rails come in Handi. I love photos helps me when putting things together.

How do the factory ones come out? seems to be a stop.
You have to use something like a flat head screwdriver to push those in while pulling back on the crossbar.
