- With just 43 days to go to this year's National and Provincial Elections on the 29th of May, new political parties are gearing up for a David versus Goliath polls battle.
Addressing the high unemployment rate and the energy crisis are priorities for them.
But can they keep their promises in what will be the most hotly-contested elections since 1994?
As part of our series focusing on the role of new and small political parties, this morning we take a closer look at what they stand for.
We are joined in the studio by Mmusi Maimane, leader of Build One South Africa, Songezo Zibi, leader of RISE Mzansi, and Dr Senathi Fisha, President of the All Citizens Party.

The quality of the discussion is better than when big parties are around.
In my opinion: when mmusi speaks, wisdom flows
I am glad Mmusi is finally having discussions with people who are in the same level as his, this thing of wanting to debate with CIC is not make sure 🤣🤣
CIC is a Dictator
Lol the CIC just can't debate. Shying away from debating.
This people are clueless leaders they still promised vunerable people jobs . No more physical technology is taking over . 60% of work force is already eliminated. If don't inform people by now is very dangerous.we experience Arab spring soon
Arise South Africa, Bosa and Rise Mzansi i wish they find a way to work together.
Mmusi has experience ❤ I wish they all can work together ❤️
That is not how it work. To think that political parties are going to make your easy but uniting is totally a joke.
When we the citizens cannot come together and choose one new party or any party other than the ANC and the DA, but we expect the political parties do what we cannot do.
The people must begin to think and take a decision to choose one party as a majority, then most of those parties will either disband or join the winning party and others join the second opposition.
We are the problem as voters and then we blame political parties that are coming with better strategies and methods of solving the crises we are faced with.
Mmusi is head and shoulders above the other two.
Mmusi is so articulate. 🔥
He is just not a doer. We are tired of the nostril English. We want doers not people who speak beautiful English because the people of Alexandra and Khayelitsha won't eat his English.
@@luthovellem865 I think the gentleman is a doer and has a plan. I'm happy to cast my vote for him
Articulate but does not deliver anything and can not either with the number his seats should his party reach parliament, it's insignificant
@oswaldbarnes5861 do you have any data to back that view or is it one of those things that folks just thumb suck? But Mmusi has never been in government, I don't know where the view of him not delivering comes from.
@Luf61-uu4iw I would always like to be factual....4 main parties make up 81% of the voter support. BOSA ranked at the bottom because it only has 20k members, and with very high voter turnout, it will still be insignificant. Source Ipsos..March 2024. ANC 41%, DA 21% and EFF 20% The EFF may become the official opposition party. So you see, smaller parties, if not more than 100k members, should not participate in our elections.
The lady is high.. sorry to say, I know she is a sister.. Sakina is not convinced 😂
Im not convinced too😅
@@mvelotshabalala2462 I would be convinced if she stated that in 3yrs, because it is possible to create millions of jobs in 3yrs.
3 million jobs in 6 months... 👐👐👐🤣🤣🤣🤣
The correct statement is new parties, you cannot call a new party a small party until after it has tested its support on elections and get less votes.
This thing of calling these new parties smaller parties, is partly de-campaigning them, psychologically people will think that why should they vote for them when they are smaller parties.
When they promise us voters, they must also tell us what their funders want from them.... just to make sure we are on the same page.
😂
I think most of the time the 2 are aligned, the difference is the implemetors fail.
😊@@kogaryu5558
I like that one, 😂😂😂😂😂
If we follow what Mmusi suggest for grands of pregnant women we will see a massive increase in alcohol syndrome in children of specific and large communities, that would definitely stun development in my opinion the bullet proof park mentality has remained just under a new name.
More young people becoming pregnant.
No one is going to just hand over their power..... this woman needs to wake up from her delulu land🙄🙄
She actually thinks women are not capable of corruption, any sensible politician knows that governance is not about gender.
Absolutely, spoilt brads these ones
Well, I think it's easy with women vote, however, she is failing on stating what is she bringing to the table besides being a woman.
Ooh my lady 😮
On what authority do you make a judgement that the MPC is a mess? Please elaborate
Not the right time for Women President, Viva BOSSA..Viva
Shame you guys can't all work together. Great discussion.
Divide and concure is the only way to defeat majority. Most of these small parties are funded by white people. Do you think in more than 300 political parties are there coz they are worried about SA. They won't work together not because they have different policies but they just have different agendas
Doc your thoughts are very muçh articula. I wish you win the elections. Rise women rise!!
Why they don't combine a make 1 strong party
These parties that appear towards elections show a lack of experience in campaigning, they just talk about what everyone is wishing for , and they are destroying the more relent parties that already have a backbone. this is what makes a two-thirds majority seem impossible for the big political parties.
2/3s majority for a single party in a republic is undemocratic. A fragmented parliament is the best remedy for this country to both force the various incumbents to focus on where they agree with one another, while balancing the accountability so we never again have a single party ruling poorly with impunity. Get used to our new normal 😊
Mmusi has the castor oil to save South Africa, he has been there and knows the loop holes, he understands where the country can invest in ----the other members said tier say which is wht we are waiting for the main brass debates with the big whigs
He has been where?
It's easy to say you'll create jobs Nah Nah Nah, however, no one is telling us how.
Mmusi for president
It's impossible but it's nice to air their views
What is version of bantu education mr bigmouth maimane
We outside SA would have liked to know in advance HOW MANY PARLIAMENTARY SEATS these parties are prognosed to obtain. And so at 20.00 AI STILL don't know WHO it is that I'm listening to and WHERE in the SA political landscape they may end up! THAT'S an unacceptable and unforgivable OMISSION from the part of the SABC!!
There are 400 seats. These parties are most likely going to be "handy parties". So called because they only get a handful of seats but end up being very handy to have around. Getting a few seats does not matter, since South Africa has a parliamentary system with proportional representation. It is technically possible to become president with only one seat and a gift for negotiations. We have seen handy parties given entire ministries before. This is very likely to increase if no party gets the 50% +1 again. Handy parties also play a very big role in parliamentary committees. This is especially true if they are special interest as they are able to negotiate with other parties for a seat on a committee pertaining to their special interest. These parties are also a lot more responsive to their supporters since there isn't massive party machinery behind them.
@@MartinMenge Martin thanks a million. I'm pretty sure that you'll agree with me that it is high time for SA to move on and amend the constitution. THIS should be the LAST election in which the PRESIDENT is elected INDIRECTLY. Come 2029 SA should elect the president DIRECTLY IN 2 ROUNDS! THAT is what SA needs. The position of VICE-PRESIDENT should be substituted for an APPOINTED PRIME MINISTER. The provincial prime ministers should be called GOVERNORS!
Amen NTATE Maimane concerning SOUTH AFRICA EDUCATION. A lot must be revisited. Thanks for caring about such an important matter, EDUCATION. 🛐✌️🇿🇦
Our parliament needs new curtains, the Bantu holomisa, the ANC, IFP, the MK they did well in the transition from Apartheid into democracy.
But a group of new talent must not be lost we really need the Malemas and Maimanes
All three parties have based their campaigns solely against ANC and they are not against each other. Hence the smooth discussion in studio.
They must just get together with ActionSA and SARA to form a big Oppenheimer SA party (OSAP). They are just costing us Ballot paper spaces.
Dezz called Mmusi a copy cat.
I didn't believe him until I watched this.
He's articulated thin lines of EFF policies. Jobs, SADC par development and Education.
Only EFF has clear written plan of how these ideals could be realized. BOSA is not clear on practical plan to realise these. But Mmusi's wisdom cannot be denied.
sounds like you haven't read their manifesto skhul'sami
Creating jobs by introducing AI? 🤔My understanding is that AI takes the human jobs, that is why the unemployment rate is high. That is why Big Tech retrenched so many people recently. Those people created AI which replaced them. Maybe I am stupid? 🤷
Unemployment is so high because the majority chants calling for the job creators demise we are leaving
People to develop AI systems. Unfortunately the unskilled loses jobs, but productivity increases
Have you ever read spacer world's by Asimov?
I upboted you on account of raising the question, however, I disagree with you.
It might not be jobs robotics bring, but ability to create wealth, aybe not wealth for to be a 1 household producer.
AI and robotics could allow you to farm and manufacture whatever you want.
Firms will not be sustainable in this model, but individual households will be.
If we continue to vote for hundreds of tiny political parties, then the ANC will easily remain the largest political party in South Africa for a long time to come and will continue to loot and destroy our beautiful country!!
The only way to close the gap on the ANC’s electoral dominance is for all opposition voters to collectively unite behind the second largest political party in SA, which is the DA and Multi party Charter!
This will bring positive change and prosperity to our beautiful country in record time!!
BOSA should join the Multi party Charter!
How?
If 90% smaller parties each get 1% of the vote, how does the remaining 10% win?👀🤷
Bosa Arise and OHM should join forces
Jobs, jobs, jobs. What about the ownership patterns of this country. You'll all stay small
Sadly dividing a small cake into even smaller and smaller slices wont solve or address poverty. Our economy needs grow to provide a bigger possible slice for everyone and cannot do so without massive investment and jobs.
Ownership of what? Children are growing up watching parents wake up an do nothing….in my neighbourhood adults wake up to go to the Shane’s, I’m curious to know how the question of ownership will help in the regard. Ownership of what? By who? Human beings need purpose and one way of giving people purpose is providing them with meaningful jobs.
@@fezekasongane8875 Human beings are born with creativity ma'am. You're here to own your life, maybe let's start with ownership of your mind so that you can use it to create since it comes equipped with that ability. The purpose of the government is to create an environment for people to express their abilities i.e. give them land for them to produce food in abundance to eat and export to other countries. Mobilise people to collaborate behind the building of the economy, including infrastructure development, and the creation of new industries even in rural areas. Black people are capable of owning factories and manufacturing value chains. Ownership is not for white people only. You too can be a job creator
@fezekasongane8875 I also want to know ownership of what. We are clearly missing something
Not far musi not far at all
Vote for system change. Vote Organic Humanity Movement. OHM does not have any promises we just want to change the whole system.
😂😂😂
Too many in the pot!!
Vara vara vara
We have more women in SA as far as i've been informed, if so why don't they form their own political party and all of them vote for it and govern.........we are tired of the finger pointing towards men
Lol that's not normal. Women should follow thier husband's not the other way around.
They all do not have a plan. Only the might, gallant and vibrant Economic emancipation movement has a clear programme of action.
Lodokotela ubuya va entlek?
I think that Doctor Fisher seems to be more pragmatic and with actual experience than the 2 and Sakina.
I’m not voting based on gender alone
😢
Multi Party Charter to rescue and save South Africa and its citizens.
The Oppenheimers boys and girls are debating
To be honest I belive none of these parties. But I am going to vote.
3 million jobs in 6 months is a pipe dream thats why many SAns dont vote for some of these small parties. All she said were just words i dont think she understands the complexities and dynamics of SAs economy. She is just making cheap statements with the hope of attracting voters and she will be very disappointed.
Empty promises make the most noise, not much action!!
Coconuts
Mmsi is very smart and young also old old persons are a non starter only dancing sa is gone now onlytheworst country😮😮😮
This parties are just participating for DA and that is why DA is so quiet🤣🤞🏼
ANC out !!
So glad the useless anc isn't part of this
Constituency systems leads to domination by one or 2 main parties.
Would Dr Fisha prefer South Africa rally behind a totally incompetent woman over a competent man? What a really silly way to promote your party
BOSA has no plans, what about micro businesses, how do you keep lights on, what plans do you have to implement that?
Have a look at their manifesto, the address that
They do bru check their manifesto please
😂😂😂😂😂
I think Dr fishcer she's smoke too much zol😂 3mil jobs in 6 months
Aaaaaa Dr.
DA will win end of ANC and EFF and MK
You are going to have a heart attack. The DA is under siege in Cape Town. It looks like they will go below 50% in their stronghold.
Yes in USA
😂😂😂 very funny
Your name is Jackpot right??🤔
The DA's problem is they need to realise the majority matters, not just the minority. People of SA did not risk their lives for pre 1994 inequality to remain.
This Lady sounds like a Looter
Mmusi sorry you have faded and I think as South Africans we've grown tired of people who sound nice when they speak and give complete political answers
Rise Mzanzi I don't know the guy and don't wanna know the Stellenbosch Mafia
We need 3 parties in South Africa
The ruling party, the opposition and an alternative
ACDP
Nope, that's how we ended up with the ANC.
However, the is a missing link in our coalitions.
We don't have real coalitions so far, you can't choose to ignore both the ANC and DA.
So we need everyone on 10% and less, that way you can kick a coalition partner out without risking stability.
😂😂😂😂
