Yeah, they come off as a mixed breed of the franks and Norman’s. Which makes them my favorite faction to play as in the game. Tbh, my favorite historical period is the Norman conquest of England, and any chance I can get into that is a chance I will take. Awesome video.
Certainly in style the vlandians resemble Normans and franks but in terms of lore I think they resemble more of the goths and a mishmash of other barbarian groups that took over the western Roman Empire. Osrac Iron-Arm seems like such an obvious reference to Odoacer and his conquest of Italy in the 5th century. I don’t know why other people don’t talk about that when discussing the Vlandian’s inspirations.
Who is more germanic in inspiration, Vlandians or Sturgians? I have a hard time pinning this since the Sturgians are based of the early nordic/slavic Rus vikings and the Vlandians are based on Normans (Norse/"north germanic"), Franks ("west germanic"), and other Germanic people who became Foederati and later developed into medieval kingdoms.
A year late BUT Vlandia is a big mixture of Swadia and Rhodokia The fine crossbows and board shields is Rhodok and their pikemen are Rhodok while the voulgier and their knights are Swadian

I would be inclined to agree that that is certainly one of, if not the most, interesting historical periods in the medieval era.

They are based off the Hautevilles, Norman mercenaries in South Italy
There’s literally a person named William Iron Arm
More than half of their cities and noble names including clan "dey" are French, that would make them Franks and you could include Normans too
@@13thBN fr Odoacer who???
@@user-wh8mb7tm2g theyre normans, Normans were Frankified Norsemen. Which explains their clan names, but no, theyre not French.
Very good video. This series has helped in my understanding of each faction greatly.
Glad you enjoyed it!
I really hope there is a total conversion mod for bannerlord that does a Norman’s vs Saxons theme, and shows William the Conqueror doing what he does.
That would certainly be something i would be interested in as well.
Very informational.
Glad it was helpful!
cool stuff
It's alot like the IRL franks tbh, Mercenaries who became theur own kingdom and they have good cav
Only watching this so I know what the true realm of Battania needs to destroy
Knowing one's enemy is half the battle.
When I the lore do they become swadians and rhodoks?
Anyone else pronouncing Vlandia's towns and clan names with a French accent? I feel like it was meant to be.

I think my only disappointment on the vlandian armors is that theres no chest plate armors for the vlandian like warband
Because it didn’t exist in 1000s
Vlandia to mee is too much Swadia. They just feel and look like a reboot of Swardia imo. Would'ev liked more Frankish apperence of the 800s.

This guy sounds like Michael Cera
I would say they’re mostly Visigoth . The history is the most similar and the names.
They are Franks/Normans
Vlandians remind me of Germany or france
It is highly inspired by both.
Germany? No, France yes
:)
