The thing is, realistically speaking, Kamala is better choice than Trump, supporting her just for that matter should not mean that you are pro-genocide. I am not an US citizen but watching the events unfolding in the states is just very very bad, there is no good, just evil and "lesser" evil. I've been watching a lot of Hasan Piker too and he explained it so well in one of his recents lives where he is not a Kamala supporter for what she does and says but she is a better alternative than Trump. So I think a lot of people have the same opinion but it is so hard to explain it as it's not black or white type of situation, it's a grey area.
Also great video, glad I had it recommended.

@@bffrmari i was surprised to see hasan say that. I think most leftists himself included recognize the electoral process is not democratic if any major candidate is going to worsen fascism and climate change etc. i cant in good conscience vote for the lesser evil, i did that in 2020 due to pressure and wish i hadnt. no matter who wins things will get worse at home and abroad, its a matter of how fast i suppose and how much of the public will be willing to fight against it depending on whos in office which, to me should not be a factor we should be organizing in our communities always and pay less attention to electoral politics charades.
and thank you i appreciate it!

@@youeitherskateoryoudie cynicism is not praxis. when you say people will fight against it, how do you mean? because protest alone is not enough, and we are not on the cusp of a violent revolution. so the system is not democratic, yeah, and all candidates are war criminals. what are you gonna do about it, tangibly, as someone who thinks things should be better? like, what is your realistic plan for it? because voting can at least make things get worse more slowly, which gives us time to strategize and fight back with a variety of supplemental strategies. no one is saying JUST vote. don't vote and then do nothing else. But one candidate sucks and doesn't have the will to really protect trans rights, reproductive rights, immigrants, people with disabilities, etc, but at the very least wants to pretend she's in favor of those things and is restrained in her cruelty slightly as a result; the other candidate is straight-up like 'i think most of those people should die, actually.' the threat level is not the same.

@@youeitherskateoryoudiethe parties know that the majority will vote for the “lesser” evil. So why would they ever need to do anything other than be less bad than the other guy. Problem is, this alienates a lot of people for various reasons. So not only do you have a stagnating party who will be happy to accept your donation money without any campaign promises, but you are likely to lose because all people can remember is “well they aren’t that one guy.” The fracturing of the DNC has only themselves to blame

You can’t in good conscience vote for the lesser of two evils so you let people suffer when you could have done something. I used to think like you, so glad I came to my senses.

@@youeitherskateoryoudieI'm not pretending that my argulent is revolutionary in any way but i still wanna put it out there, in case you wanna listen.
We've all heard it by now: not voting is very much a political move, the problem is that it in no way supports your ideals and doesn't actually give you a voice. Yes, Kamala Harris has questionable views on the conflict in Gaza, but so does Trump, at least we know that she's willing to continue sending funds to Ukraine which is genuinely an extremely important cause (for Ukraine, Europe but also just democracy)
To me, not voting in a two party system equates to voting for whichever side you're farthest politically speaking from and that's a shame... Can you live with the "guilt" of electing Trump?

I think we naturally congregate around music, and I think a better way to do it (rather than congregating around some elite national pop star further funneling money from "us" to "them") is to focus on local music. If there's some cafe or something that has music, support the musician there, hang out a while and get some coffee from the place to encourage them to keep hiring musicians to play. If the town/city is big enough, there will be active artists that are good enough to be interesting. It's at least one thing we can do

this is such a fun video essay :] it feels like overhearing a conversation or something of that sort. it's very natural, and very authentic. i wholeheartedly agree w what you said regarding third spaces, and recession pop. even tho i'm not american, i still think kamala harris should win. trump's win would ruin the country (and have a cataclysmic effect on international politics). i think contrapoints' video 'voting' explains it best. i don't know how i feel about celebrities discussing politics, but what can you do?

@@sleepyexe1012 thank u i appreciate it! i copy pasted this from my reply to someone else lol:
the way i see it we currently have a dem president and we are still descending further into fascism and climate change is worsening. whats more important than electoral politics is building community, mutual aid, organizing for the coming years because life is only going to get harder on the path we’re on. if both major parties are making things worse what we need is a revolution

Okay so this video gave me THOUGHTS… It really shocks me when you said that clubs are not third spaces because I think this unintentionally raises so much of gay culture which has been built to our clubs out of necessity - I’m 26 so I guess gem z millennial cusp but I spent my early 20s clubbing in London and clubs were really important third space for me - I had so many unbelievably beautiful meaningful conversations in smoking areas and things… Yeah a lot of them I can’t remember now because I wasn’t exactly sober😂😂 but it was really really meaningful to me… also you are absolutely right the complaints about clubs not being what what Genz expected are definitely a lot to do with straight clubs versus gay clubs😂

@@aca986 very true! i talked about part of of how i can see why people call them a third space (subtext of esp us queer people seeing it like that) But under capitalism that makes me sad bc we should have actual third spaces that are free and accessible to all members of the community not just young adults. the gay clubs are still a watering hole for us queers but we want and deserve More third spaces and gay spaces
