I just want to share a small piece of my 13 year journey with my hubby. First, if you want to love anyone you must love yourself first. Second, weather or not you are a man of faith this applys. You must be willing to lay your life down for her and she you. Even if that means being with a stubburn, rude, lying or manipulative person. You have to forgive and let it go. Show her how deep your love is. Kids always drive marriages to divorce because we lose focus on what is important, remembering why we fell in love to begin with. I met my husband when we were in A School together. I was in the Navy and he was a Marine. I know, I know, bad mix. J/k. I fell in love with him the moment I looked back in class and he was smiling at me. Not a creepy smile, but a very sweet loving smile. Next thing you know, we dated 3 months and 3 days, got engaged for 3 days, and now have been Married for over 12 1/2 years. Crazy right. So my military time is up and I move in with him and right away I notice he talks with this girl from back home, a lot. So I asked him about it and then he switched and pulled a psycho move and started calling me crazy with a bunch of bad names. So to make a 1 1/2 year ordeal short... I got phone records he admits to it all at the chaplains office. He loves her and always will. So, Then he decides when our 1st son is born (6 weeks old) that he will move on from her. Then things are ok but not like in the beginning. I had trust issues. Now, a couple years pass, he is injured while in service (they kicked him out after they broke him, he is currently a medically retired, disabled vet), his back is shot, knee surgery, bone degeneration, etc. So the military gave him a drug called tramadol for his pain. They said it was the only non addictive man made opiate. Well, week 2 he is hooked on them and has already downed a 260 count 50mg each pill, bottle. A one month supply in 2 weeks. So they give him another bottle. And every month there after. He is hooked. Almost instantly I noticed the anger, rage, depression, mood swings, insomnia, throwing things, breaking things, paranoia, you name it he got it. I was married to a drug addict. Then to throw us for another loop we buried our 5th son Noah almost 5 years ago(we have 7 children total). (He would have been 5 years old this October 25th) So, anyway, I endured this for 6 1/2 years before I said enough is enough. Just 6 months ago to the day... we went to Tulsa Oklahoma to get him detoxed off the tramadol. The last 2 days of his detox was the best 2 days of my married life. I had my man back, or so I thought. But I hadn't seen anything yet. 3 weeks later all his symptoms came back full force. Crazy mad. Very scary, the children (we have 6 little ones) and I left for a month at one point and a week another time. Just absolutely not expected. ( on a side note, 2 years ago he had a texting affair with my sister, and just last month at counceling I found out he has had a 5 year addiction to porn, our counselor said he has a sex addiction.) Anyway, although his symptoms have calmed some, to this day he still struggles. He is tired all the time, in pain all the time, depressed, lazy, spends most of his day in his room, goes straight their after work, very little time with the kids and I am virtually neglected emotionally and left to be a single parent. I beg for help but he just can't get out of bed and I am so sad for him because he lives a miserable life. He watches all these documentaries about athletes, triathlons, and traveling and wants to be all these things but can't and he makes himself miserable about a life that was never promised to him. Instead of loving every minute of the life he was blessed with. A beautiful wife that adores him, 6 beautiful babies that love him, and a home on 5 acres in the country. Anyway, the point, I know right... I keep babbling. I love this man so much that l would rather live with a broken heart and stay. Because to say goodbye forever would hurt me way too much more. I want the love of my life back. And I am going to fight for him because he is worth it. When I said I do, I meant it. Not just " I do until it gets hard, then I am out". Now I just do my best to love him from afar and I am here when he needs me. But until then... I will wait. Everyone has to make that choice. Just make sure your safe. If there is ever violence leave. But if it is just words then go to a quite place and talk it out with out the kids. Go on dates. Even if it is just a picnic in your yard. Money is not an excuse to hold you back from a meaningful relationship with her. Hold her more. Huge her often, even when your mad. Never let the sun go down on your anger. Kiss her every night. Because tomorrow is not promised, only today is given. Don't wake up tomorrow wishing for yesterday. Marriage is hard. But when you sign on the dotted line it doesn't come with a warning lable... saying, "caution hard times ahead". It's not about the mountain, it's about the climb. If you two have been on and off for this long, then there is some pride issues there. But you clearly love her. And I am sorry, but I would die to have a love like that. I never really feel loved by my hubby. Maybe I am too nieve or stubborn. But I know it's his brain, not his heart. And as long as he wants me, I will stay. Express your heart to her. Don't hold back. Women want to know they matter, they don't want to feel used. Find out from her what she is really upset about, and listen, only listen, don't retaliate or defend yourself, don't speak, just listen. Let her share her hurt. And then swallow your pride and fix the problem. Then when she sees your example she will do the same in time, by swallowing her pride and loving you the way you want her to. Most couples now days when things get tough they say, well the grass is greener on the otherside. Then they get there and same thing, so they move on again, and again, and again. But 60 years ago marriages were for life. My husband's grandparents have been Married 59 years. My husband's father has had 4 wives and 5 kids, who knows how many girlfriends. His mother 3 husband's and 5 kids. Don't be a statistic. Be the statistic. Dont let your friends or family have negative things to say. Keep them out of it. Ask them to mind their own business. Speak life. Only share the good things about her with others. Then it will find it's way back to her and she will want change and be that person that you need her to be. And don't expect too much. People don't change overnight. It takes time. I have been waiting years and I am still waiting. Because him just holding me for just a moment makes me forget all the pain. My faith keeps me strong. I definitely agree with that. I was in an amazing relationship for two and half months and it's taken me almost six to even be able to stop thinking about him everyday after he completely dropped me out of nowhere. It fucking sucks having someone drop you like it's nothing when you start to care about them with your whole heart and for someone to even say you don't know what love feels like obviously hasn't been through a hard breakup themselves.
