- Pinnacle Ridge is a brief but airy scramble on one of the rocky ribs lower down on Pen yr Ole Wen’s south-westerly slope. It is normally approached from Idwal Cottage and the rib is easy to identify well in advance.
Some may find crossing of the pinnacle quite thrilling. Also it can’t be denied that the scramble is disappointingly short.
Still - personally i found it brilliant short scramble (somewhere around Grade II) with a nice exposure, making it even more interesting to do.

Nice video, very spicy that. There is also a Grade 1 scramble up Pen Yr Olwen which doesnt get much attention, but also is very good.

Could you reverse that route ? Looks like it would be a tricky descent. Great vid, I have been over Pen Yr Ole Wen but wasn't aware of this ridge, thank you !!
@@autoscanremaps Thank you mate. Well - yes i would be able to but before such attempt i would probably do it two more times (both sides of the last pinnacle) just to see how it feels (sequence of the moves). Watch them two channels - Clog on the mountains and The Bald Scrambler ... this route has a few options as far as i know. Descent would be slightly tricky (agree)

@@noexpirydate5208 When you get vertigo on a thick carpet, as I do, I prefer to admire other people dicing with death. I did some scrambling in my 20s/30s, but decided I'd rather live to see my son grow up. I got part way across the Aonach Eagach and gave up and went back, then quit scrambling.
