I've got about 15 SAKs but I often carry the Climber if I'm just wearing jeans. I upgraded mine with plus scales so it's got a pen, straight pin, and eyeglasses screwdriver making it nearly perfect!
It's a little big in the pocket of my khakis when I'm at work so then I carry the Spartan, Compact, Tinker, or a Wenger that is comparable to the Spartan...This is such a great model though and I love the classic red scales. Nice to see other people that appreciate these great little tools. Keep up the great SAK vids!

The MP hook is actually a pretty good way to add a saw blade.
All you need is the appropriate jigsaw blade. Maybe with a bit of heatshrink around the base.
Pop open the hook, slide the blade in through the keyring, locate it in the hook's slot, and lock it in place with the hook.
As much as I like my Ranger, this solution is lighter and more versatile. You can get a jigsaw blade for just about anything, and lose at least one layer on your Swiss army knife without giving up function.
You can stash these blades just about anywhere, they're slim & light. Plus you don't have to worry about sharpening them, since they're so cheap and easy to replace. Unlike the wood saw on my Ranger.

    • @gadgetgus
      @gadgetgus  4 місяці тому +1

      Yes, I agree it is.
Though it is overlooked by some, there are quite a few of us who remember Benjamin Balke from Germany 🇩🇪 attaching a jigsaw blade to a SAK a fews ago - great idea! 💡
I nearly forgot about it, so thanks for reminding me 😉

I bought mine about 3 years ago on sale (just £21) with black scales, at the time I was getting into SAKs and this was the 5th one I bought after Hiker, Classic SD, Farmer, and Soldier 08, but it didn't get much pocket time, I preferred carrying a model with a saw accompanied with a Classic SD or Leatherman Squirt PS4. But as of late I have started carrying my Climber as my go-to urban SAK, I upgraded those black scales for black plus scales, with a black pocket clip - there's a UK ebay seller selling replacement scales with clips screwed into them on the back scale, and he does a very good job of it, so to a non-SAK fanatic they look like they came like that from the factory, plus they're not really much more expensive than you'd pay for just the scales, I paid £12 for mine. I pair this up with the Knipex Cobra XS pliers and it's a brilliant EDC which comes in very useful and is very capable for it's size.

My two found the Saw very useful for firefighting duties 🔥

Climber is my everyday carry when Im just out and about. I dont miss the saw at all, I dont use that. Maybe in the garden or when outdoors camping, but I rarely do. The siccors however are very usefull. Only thing I miss is a nail file funnily enough. I like to fiddle and do some self care with it when Im waiting around.

The other cool thing you can do with the hook is turn the otherwise rather uncomfortable pen into something actually usable.
It just goes in the slot and the hook drops on top to lock it in place. Feels as solid as you'd want.

The only problem I ever had with a Victorinox was deciding on which model to pick. I carry the Explorer on a clip on my belt. The only thing it is missing is a saw. I'd trade the scissors ✂️ for a saw 🪚😃. Yeah, I could customize it, but I don't feel like taking apart a perfectly fine tool & possibly winding up with a pile of parts and another entry on the "to-do list." 😂

Not really worth your while customising it anyway I think, you can get a Camper or Hiker for around £25 including delivery if you shop around, in fact the Camper is currently just £21 on Amazon, or a Huntsman or Fieldmaster for around £30 if you want both saw and scissors. I bought my Climber about 3 years ago and didn't start carrying it much until recently and now it's my go-to urban EDC, prior to that I'd preferred carrying a model with a saw like my Hiker or Farmer but I rarely need them in West London! If I go on a bike ride along the canal or to some woodland to chill out it's a different story, I take my Hiker or Farmer, and have a 74mm Ambassador in my First Aid Kit so I still carry scissors. In my opinion all SAKs are good in their own way.

They'll have their reasons of course, but it mystifies me why Victorinox didn't quietly adopt the Wenger scissors design when they assimilated the company. I don't think it's controversial to say that most people who have owned both will express a preference for the more robust Wenger spring mechanism, although in other respects there was nothing much to choose between the two brands.

      Hey buddy 🤘
You raise a fair point, as I enjoy the serrated scissors on the Delémont collection, as it grips & bites slightly better.
However, they have stopped making the Delémont-Evolution series, unfortunately.
This is partly due to the longer process to manufacturer serrated scissors, perhaps - less is more and still does the job exceptionally well.
      Thanks for watching,

TBH the wenger, vic scissors debate is perennial and no stranger to controversy. There are fans of both with the wibbly wobbly up and down motion of the Wenger scissors, and the perceived weakness of the Vic spring being the biggest complaints about them. Personally, I’m a Vic scissor man all the way, although I would be willing to compromise if it got me some scissors on my 84mm alox!!!

Can’t go wrong with victorinox, even the blade steel seems great to me, 👍🏻.what do you think 🤔 of the leatherman wave to compliment a tradesman tools ⚒️, or is it worth going up to the charge tti with s30v main blade steel?

    • @gadgetgus
      @gadgetgus  Рік тому

      Hey Marc✋️
Great question... the standard LM Wave is still fairly good value. It depends on frequency of use - generally good for Campers & DIYer's.
For me, being a tradesman, your ideally going to need something more robust, that lasts longer...
I would go for the S30V steel - my favourite EDC steel.
The TTi is nice, though I went for the LM Charge + in Orange G10 - awesome!
The LM Surge is best for trade use, however the Charge is in between the Wave & Surge, so worth considering...
Whatever you choose, I would opt for the '+' version, as it has the bit driver, great as a backup & replaceable cutters.
If you do, then as a 'bolt on' the extension rachet bit driver is verg useful 😉
I will review two LM's soon!
      Hope that helps,

@@gadgetgus Thanks 🙏 Gus , very helpful reply, I do like the surge but again as far as I know it’s 420hc again . Yeah you are dead right, you definitely need the bits , I like the interchangeable saw blade on the surge . The only problem with all the above is they can’t be edc Ed in the Uk 🇬🇧 which is a shame. But then I guess we have an inexhaustible choice of victorinox folders. Thanks 🙏 again mate

@@marcdee4427 you can mod a LM, to have a non-fixed blade, also as a hybrid approach you can use a detent, which is much more involving...
I wish LM would make the Wave, Charge & Surge UKLegal.
However, if your using it at home or work, it's not a problem. I have one in the car and also in my hone toolbox 🧰
I may have to do a - How To, 'modifing' video in the near future, if that would help?

@@gadgetgus Thanks Gus , I don’t really think I buy into all this about super steels, I find victorinox steel doesn’t snap easily, other steels can be brittle. A lot of the worlds military’s use victorinox type steel for multi tool duty and as far as I know love. It’s rust resistant as well, I suspect hype plays a part in all these fantastic steels . If s30v is a lot better than victorinox type steel they should put it on the surge , not just the charge. This steel thing has confused me a bit . But victorinox has never let me down. I’ve snapped a couple of 420hc leather man’s. Even that seems brittle to compared to victorinox.

There are great value, as I also rotate them in my weekly EDC.
However, for any 'hard use' tasks I always use a robust, main blade to get the job done.
Be well and all the best,

Not to be a hater as I do love your videos and have gained a lot of knowledge from you. But this review was not your best, a 3rd of the video gushing on the main blade and didn’t even mention the rear tools? The climber is a great SAK and my go to EDC, would have been nice if you had covered the rear implements . Otherwise a very informative review. Many thanks

I may have overdone it with the coffee ☕️ 😁
Yes, I didn't mention the back tools, but I showed them in the slideshow, near the end, when I realised my mistake.
When I'm filming, I usually get it on the first take, sometimes the second... and on occasion, you can forget to include some items.
I am looking to update quite a few videos, including this one, when possible, for various reasons, including 'missed' tools! 🧰
