- September is just around the corner, and if you haven’t started practicing with your elk calls yet, there’s no better time than right now!
As you’ve likely heard, Corey Jacobsen is no longer affiliated with Rocky Mountain Hunting Calls, which gave him a chance to test every single diaphragm elk call you can imagine, as well as several open-reed cow calls and bugle tubes. And he’s sharing the results of his testing here in this short, unbiased video demonstrating the calls that stood out to him as the best of the best.

I live seeing a review of all these different call companies from the man himself. Knowing the why it had to happen is a huge bummer, but glad to see it's not slowing you down and you're taking the high road corey
Sorry for my ignorance but what happened?????????????
Got a month and 2 weeks till elk season in Oregon can't wait and wanted to say that's to all of you at elk 101 for all the videos to help ......I hope core starts making his own brand of calls or teams up with Phelps.........thanks again
Just a little review of my own after watching this video. I'm still a pretty novice caller but I have tried many different reeds but only one tube. After watching the video a few weeks ago I ordered some slayer diaphragm calls and a mile high game notes tube. 1. I still really like to fit of the Rocky mountain GTP calls and love the mello yellow for cow sounds. 2. Slayer emailed my right away asking if I received my order and was happy with them (Great customer service). No complaints I just noticed much more subtle differences in the calls I ordered from them then I do with the calls in the gtp pack. I haven't yet notched these which I've done to all my other calls . 3 I noticed a night and day difference with the mile high game notes tube. It instantly made my bugles sound better. I will keep trying different calls but I had no idea a different tube could make that much difference.
Corey you are the man. You sound so life like. Keep teaching us . We appreciate all you share and do for us all.
Wapiti River reeds, out of Alberta, Canada. Highly recommended giving them a look - they’re the only reeds I’ll use now.
Appreciate you taking the time to do this despite the turmoil going on with rmhc. You’ve always put in and given so much value to those of us who follow you. Keep on Keepin’ on!
Whats going on with rmhc??
Thanks for running through them!!! Our crews will be running the BRO calls this fall in AZ, NM, and OR. Vids will follow.
Thanks Corey! I run Phelps calls and really like them for my style. Sorry you had a falling out with your old calls but glad you are demoing other calls!!
As you can see your opinion matters Corey! Whatever you got coming up in the future I’m pretty sure you’ll have a large following. I know I’ll continue. You’re good for the industry. Keep it up!
I’ve had a lot of trouble with diaphragm calls, not sure why but I get a major gag reflex with them. Phelp’s EZ bugler was a game changer for me. Got tons of bulls responding to me last year with it. If you can’t do diaphragms y’all should check it out!
I burned through 4 September and 2 committed reeds last season love the born and raised calls
Love all the context you make! Appreciate all the work you put into teaching this craft!
Thanks for doing this. Sorry for all you are going through!!
Thanks for sharing Corey. I love trying new calls. I have settled on the BRO reeds and tube for now. I have great control with them and their dome for me specifically since I was born with a cleft pallet. I might try some of these other calls you have mentioned as well. I started with Phelps calls mostly, switched to bro ones once they launched theirs but I still actively try some. Currently before season I’m trying the Glen Berry calls.
Anyways I appreciate the video and I hope one works for you or you can develop your own line to kind of continue the legacy!
How did you modify the slayer tube?
Mad props for helping the new guys in the game. Slayer and Mile High Note game calls are such cool people!!
The grey amp is my go to along with the phelps metal bugle tube. For me I found that combination to produce a very good tone. Excited to see what the future holds. Good luck this fall
Thank you for sharing this we appreciate your information and will be following you closely as you continue to move forward
Great review, thanks for doing the grunt work. It’s Coming!
Thanks Corey! Your recommendations tell me that I am on the right path learning to call elk. Makes me look forward to the season.
great demo Cory, thanks for taking the time to share
I appreciate you taking the time to do this. An open honest, non biased review of many different companies is incredibly refreshing. Would you have the same recommendations on diaphragms for us mid to low profile folks?
Love watching the tactics.
Corey, I’d love to hear your opinion on slayers acrylic bugle tube. I purchased the one you recommended last year.
Thank you for the reviews on these calls. Im glad to see my favorite phelps calls on your list. Gray and pink. Ive had some luck with those.
The two B&R Call Co. diaphragms you found to be opposite of what they show on their graph; their graph showing all of their diaphragms. They show Committed to be graphed on the light air pressure side and September to be at the highest of them all; regarding air pressure. But then the graph shows 'September' is on the 'thin' side, and Committed on the heavier; regarding latex thickness. So I would imagine, because it makes sense considering thickness, you finding the September to be easier. I'm now thinking their graph isn't truly accurate. I found their 'The Reason' difficult in doing much else, other than making high pitch calls. But when multiple options are available...I suppose trial and error is what it always comes down to.
This is really good! I like the Phelps Dark Green Amp and the Maverick.
Corey is the man!
Appreciate your reviews Cory. I’ll be looking to get a few more calls.
Great info man, really appreciate you doing this video. Sorry for the problems with the previous call company, it stinks to see that kind of stuff going on in this industry but I guess for some its all about the $$ Look forward to see what you come up with next.
Great review!!! Keep em coming!
thanks for demoing those - do you recommend putting your diaphragms under running water for a couple seconds after use? and letting them dry of course. Always have wondered if you should do that or just forget about it. THX!!
Sorry to hear about your old call company. Thank you for a video like this. I’m still kinda new to calling. I’ve been using the BRO diagrams. I have a elk tag in Wyoming this year and my 17 year old son is goin with me and is goin to be my caller. My son is learning how to call. He likes your old white elk101 diagram. Any suggestions on a diagram that is similar to that one? Thanks again for all the videos. I’ve learned so much from them.
Thank you Corey!
Music to my ears 🤙🏽
Great content, Cory, thank you for sharing
Thanks for the info sir.
Should check out wapitiriver calls out of Canada hands down one of the best I've used
I was just getting ready to buy more calls from you. I'll switch to B&R until you get back.
I use the Pitch Black series and the Maverick diaphragms with the Mile High tube.
Glad I ordered mine last week before this dropped 🍻
Thanks for the review
I've always wanted to hear you yet others' calls and review them. Thanks, very helpful!!
Also curious about the Slayer Acrylic Archangel bugle tube, would love to hear your opinion on it if you tried it? It’s so pricey tho, hard to justify getting one just to try out.
Great review
Thanks! 🎉🎉🎉
I hope everything works out in the end for your situation.... That absolutely has to suck
I was a RMHC fan with your champ (orange) call. Ordered 2 more replacements and they must have changed something because ots not the same. What Phelps call would you recommend equivalent to try?
Mr. Jacobson, what about calls for beginners? I was thinking of Phelps, since you can use an open reed cal with their tube.
I think you should give Wapiti River a try.
Yup boycotting rm calls going bro. Lol
Did you try Wapiti River Outdoors diaphragm calls, from Alberta?
Did you try any of the Carlton calls? A few of them sound really, really good but they aren’t super easy to use.
so... what is the name of the tube from Mountain High? Most of their stuff looks the same, but I am interested LOL
Forgot to try Rocky Mountain calls. No more discount code?😂
Did you get a chance to try wapiti river outdoors reeds?! Out of AB
September an come Soon enough
I'm curious to see if you've tried the power bugle tube out before? You don't have to use their mouthpiece and it sounds a ton more realistic to me
One of the oldest tubes out there, I’m sure he’s tried it.
Have you tried the riven wooden bugle tube yet
Born n Raised diaphragm sounded best...just my opinion
Have you tried the elk bros reeds?
Have to laugh a lot watching this, the elk calling master saying “this one is easy to use”. Of course they are because you are the master caller. Even when you tried to teach me at the Elk Summit you make it look so easy. Sorry you have to go through all you are with this.
They don’t give you the diaphragm’s?
Maybe it's just me but they all sound exactly the same.
Bulls quit talking in my favorite places,,,,wolves have them scared...talking means getting eaten
