  • Please subscribe! Asheron's Call MMORPG in my opinion the best MMORPG of all time! Great PvP as well, this is a basic overview of the game and its features. AC is currently free to play once you pay 10$ for an account.
I play as X-Legend of Darktide.

To me, Asheron's Call will ALWAYS be the best MMORPG ever made. I played that game for a long time, many hour's a day. It felt more in depth than anything ever created since. I even enjoyed AC2 for a good while as well. It's nice watching some vid's on this game and remembering way back when. Thank you for the Video!

Asherons Call is hands down without a shadow of a doubt the greatest and most rewarding MMO ever created. I cannot believe it's been near 17 years since its release and I haven't seen another MMO remotely close to Asherons Call category in almost every aspect of the game. It's gameplay, it's storyline, the huge landscape it's never ending, the PVP etc etc. It's easily the greatest MMO of all time.

I entered the game for the first time 1999. My first har was Aril. Then i created Bogur. Bogur is today level 219 without vassals. I am still is online after 15years. This was my first mmo game. Meet some wounderfull people from USA. Arion Dukat from Flaggstaf Arizona. And the whole clan of BK nights. It was and still today the best mmo game out there. Now i am on a lifetime sub and i love it. Wish more old friends could come online again :)

There are certain video game experiences that can never be replicated. My first year or so on AC was one of them. In 1999, the internet wasn't what it is now, and every quest wasn't mapped out on 30 websites 20 seconds after an update. You explored for REAL when this game came out. You could find quests, and dungeons that had NO INFO on the net. It was fun as hell.

    Frostfell server.
A few players in our clan…..
MageMerlin, Gandalf the Son, Alun Magus, Silverthorn, Paladin, GTS, Ebaneezer, Wise Magus, Riggor
Our town was Arwic. Portals were in what we had termed “the subway” up the hill. I remember standing outside and directing players to where to find portals.
Unfortunately the Shadows destroyed Arwic as we had remembered it….. leaving it with a huge crater fill shadows lurking.

It's a crying shame that there are almost no games out there, within 15+ years, that can hold a candle to this game. It was such a punishing game, which made the rewards so much more worth it. +Big Bunny I agree, mechanically with the magic pool areas for magic use, the skills system of getting better at things by actually doing them, fealty for clan building so leaders can spend more time managing rather than leveling, monthly story and lore updates, buying rumors, housing, magic being mysterious with a the taper system (I would actually read what spellcasters said to figure out spell components), and monster leveling, this game was boss. I which someone would basically jack the entire system and just do another release with updated graphics for the game just to give it more exposure. Or release it as an awesome iphone or android game.

I remember seeing an article for this before it came out and call me crazy but I could *feel* the adventure/fantasy behind the game and sense It's awesomeness. I player AC long ago with a femme toon I called 'Moira the Seer'. All she ever did was identify weapons/armor/etc. I got her to lvl 20 just identifying things! Sure, I had other toons, but, Moira was the only unique one. (lvl 20 was pretty good, then)
I finally left when I got tired of the trade cheats and the terrifically unbalanced magic. I knew I was done when, during a PvP between a tank and a mage, the mage just lay on the ground while the equal lvl tank tried, fruitlessly, to hit him for damage.
Also, I'd done some exhaustive farming of some truly rare crystal item that dropped from some floating eye thing and had acquired 30, when having even two was considered great wealth. Then they opened up some instance where the damn things were easily found! Instead of having a lot of great trade items, I now had, essentially, common stuff. I regretted abandoning Moira but the game was too young and flawed.

I think you misunderstand what keeps new players from joining it. It's not the non hand holding gameplay. It's the graphics, controls, ui. Those things could all be improved. Really the only thing that should be improved is the UI and control side of the game. Graphics really arent THAT important. If an Asheron's Call 3 was made, imagine it with the varied builds, open world and questing system, but then redo the controls and interface and you get something that doesn't feel uncomfortable.

I don't think any game has ever made me as unhappy as AC.
I wanted to explore this great world, Dereth, but at the same time, needed to level. The exploring was great. Hands down the best experience I ever had, and I was 30 years old at the time.
But, and the big "but" at the time, was I has to keep pace. So there came those Olthoi and Tusker dungeons. Had to do them. And they made me sad. To the point when I couldn't go into one of them without thinking it was going to be hard work. And before logging, wondering if it was worth it.
Until I met Bael Zharon, tossing people every which way he chose. There, with hundreds of other combattants, I felt I was one of the few.
It lasted a couple of weeks after that. I wish it had kept me a couple of years longer, but twas not to be. Soon after, my first and only child was born, and it was only with Guild Wars that I started again to measure myself againt a fantasy world.

It's kind of funny. The game graphics look terrible when you watch them on UA-cam but in game they look plenty good if you can crank up everything to max. FYI, graphics card doesn't really make a huge difference, this game's performance is more based on the CPU due to how old it is.
Love the fact you don't have the stupid, now standard, MMO cool down skills that you place in the shortcut bar. I've tried probably 50 mmo's and mashing skills with cool downs is fucking dull. If you have skills in AC they are basically always active.
In AC, you can take on hoards, you actually feel heroic. You can use positioning and your skill to take on groups of critters way higher than your level. Most MMO's i've played, level's matter more than anything, you get slaughtered if they are a couple levels higher than you.

Why don't the devs make an HD remake if it was so popular?

Good review, makes me wanna play again...i played from 00 to 13, left my acc in the hands of a buddy. Hope its still out there kicking ass. "All Or Nothing" was the name, had kills or killshot's on just about every1 on DT playing that char from 04 till i quit. But yes defo the best game i've ever played, so many great memory's too. No other game will come close.

Going back to Frostfell for a month. Buffing has always been a pain in the ass otherwise greatest game ever. DT was fun when it was busy but last time I logged on there it was just a bunch of foul mouthed goofballs. This game should never shut down. Bells and whistles mean nothing. Just eye candy the game is the real deal if you have skill even if you dont. Not like wow gear based BS

I played AC when it first came out and during the beta, played for several years and quit playing at lvl 116, played on frostfell, can you tell me what the community is like, is it worth getting into? do you feel that there are people that have returned to play that were there from the original?

He didnt vuln you because the wand is spec'd in lightning that already vbulns you when it hits you. where is maggiethejackcat site ? That site was priceless, plus asheronwiki. Are they gone? Indeed, have played AC on and off since 2000. I play on Darktide and Frostfell,or did but I'm going back. I miss it. The lower lower the craft the more you can tink it right? Once had a sweet cs lightning wand and blew it up with a 98% success chance, still mad about that. Also if you miss rent day you lose your cottage and all items. What does a sandbox mean? Not sure about that term. I still remember this game, best ever. Shadowbane was good too,but that's been gone due to the Walmart of mmo's Wow. Melles were always nerfed

I think maggies shut down, iirc something along the lines of the man she made it for, passed away and after that she lost interest in keeping it open and updated. I think the Wiki is fairly updated though.
