Thank you for another very informative video. This subject was of particular interest because I have a small collection of writing boxes, including one that is virtually identical to the example in your video. Sadly without a label, but it does have a pair of small brass candle sconces that fit into brass slots at the top of the open slope. The secret drawer release mechanism is identical to yours and it retains its original light green baize. It also has the two locks and a pair of inkwells. We do use it regularly and it lives on a Regency table in the drawing room. It’s very handy to store writing equipment and associated items. It’s a pity that the market for such superb boxes has dipped over the last decade or so. I was able to buy a later 19th century leather covered, fully fitted Mechi writing box with all original equipment (including ruler, ivory note pads, pens and penknife) online in 2022 for a miserly £70 including courier delivery. Astonishing. Also rather sad. Still, it is a treasure to pass on to the next generation, I suppose.

You did well to find a box retaining the candle sconces as so often they are missing. The Mechi box also sounds like a bargain.
